1st half performance was dreadful and could only see a Brentford win coming. 2nd half - so much better. We competed and gave them something to think about. Draw was a fair result in the end. Grabara - He does some things comfortably/confidently but other things woefully - mainly with his feet. There are too many mistakes in him and there was another bad one today. 6/10 (boosted due to clean sheet). Expected better from a Liverpool GK. Simpson - Reasonably solid and the team has undoubtedly improved since he came in. Has the odd loose pass in him but he's the best we've got at RB at the moment. He worried me today by how much he backed off Benrahma... It's a good job he had an average day. 6.5/10. Stearman - I thought it was harsh on JGS to drop him but my oh my was I proved wrong. Stearman was absolutely fantastic today. Faultless. A proper CB performance with a few Cruyff Turns chucked in too 9/10. Schindler - Pretty solid from Schindy. Looked comfortable alongside Gerard Piqué Perhaps fortunate not to receive 2nd yellow card - 7/10Toffolo - Impressive debut. Was key to the change in momentum in 2nd half as got forward really well. Put in the best cross of the game that no Town player attacked/gambled on. I liked what I saw - 8/10 Chalobah - I've criticised this guy week after week (I still think he's crap), but today was easily his best performance in a Town Shirt. Deserves some praise today but I'm not convinced that we'll see it again too often - 7/10O'Brien - Our most consistent performer this season. Was solid again today. It's a bit depressing that a young lad fresh from the academy and playing in League 1 last year has been our best player when we are fresh out the PL but it's where we are at. Keep it up Lewis - 7/10Smith-Rowe - Not in the game first half so not even comment worthy. Had more space and touches of the ball in 2nd half and got better as the game went on. Could see his confidence growing too. Will watch with interest over coming weeks - 6/10Kachunga - Sorry if this seems harsh but he's chuffing garbage. It's sad really as he looks nothing like the EK of 16/17. Plays the entire game with his back to goal and its like we are playing with 10.5 players with him on the field. 3/10Grant - Not looking anywhere near as sharp in the last few weeks. Hope it's just a blip in form and not linked to a January transfer. Playing out of position again but we are limited on options. Missed an absolute gobber - 5/10Campbell - Always gives his all and there were some neat touches as usual. Not suited to playing up top on his own but we literally have no wingers so Grant plays left - 6/10SUBS: Hadergjonaj - Offered more than Kachunga but that was not difficult. Would start Flo over Kachunga @ Hull if we haven't managed to bring in a winger - 6/10Bacuna - Didn't particularly influence the game once introduced - 5/10King - Same as Bacuna - 5/10The Cowley Brothers - They know what they are working with and it's limitations. They knew if they got into an open game against Brentford - it would likely end badly. People sat near me were critising him for not bringing on Mounié instead of King and accused him of negative tactics. Not me - 8/10Fans - Atmosphere shit again. I know we are not watching the best but come on guys - 4/10I agree with much of this but you have muddled Kachunga and Grant. I’ve still never seen a decent performance from Grant and he was absolutely woeful today. No pace, lost every header, couldn’t make the ball stick and consistently chose the wrong moment to release the ball to team-mates. Would much rather have Mounié playing (and I can hardly believe I’m saying that. Grant was poor today, I gave him 5/10. He's playing out of position and perhaps I was lenient on him for that reason. I still rated Kachunga and Grant the lowest... You basically saw what I saw

They seemed intent on walking the ball in the net.

Excellent one touch football is all well and good but none of it resulted in clear cut chances today. I think they are over hyped and will probably not win promotion and might not even make the play offs.

Excellent post - I must admit that, much as I love the Cowleys, they do set us up as though we're absolutely desperate for a 0-0 draw at home. A year ago we were playing Liverpool,Chelsea,Man City - today you would have thought they were again our opponents. 2 other points - what hold has Kachunga got over the manager - 4 new signings and still a starter ? And if we're going to play long then play Mounie - Campbell (another "worker" but not very good) NEVER wins balls in the air. 4 new signings, none of which play in Kache's position. That's why. Who would you play in his position? Now that we have Toffolo, RW is top priority & if we can get a deal over the line I expect Kachunga's days as an automatic starter are numbered. Useful squad player but not much more now, unless he can recapture his form from 3 years ago. Who would I play in Kachunga's position ? Flo, Bacuna or my lady wife.

Most of this I agree with apart from the Managers score in my opinion the atmosphere represents the crap football we are playing and in my opinion the Manager is setting up every game home and way not to loose and to be honest the football is absolutely rubbish.

Thought their build up play was pretty good in the middle third .. lots of quick decisive passing a good movement, but their final ball was lousy. Seemed to run out of ideas and imagination the closer they got to our goal.
A game full of positives and negatives today for us i thought.
Stearman was excellent throughout. Toffolo had a decent debut. OBrien very good once again, Schindler was good and Campbell worked his socks off and cut out all the needless fouls.
The negatives were Simpson, who's steadily getting worse game by game IMO. All over the place at times today and just looks like a cock up waiting to happen, Kachunga who once again did nothing really, the keeper who looks nervy as hell at times and chalabah who I know some are saying did ok, but I think just did a little less badly than he has been doing and still just doesn;t look good enough to play at this level
Smith Rowe was an 'interesting' debut. Interesting in that its rare that a player on debut could have had less impact on a match than he had in that 1st half! He seriously might as well not bothered being out there. Partly his team mates fault for not getting the ball to him and just resorting to hoofs up field to campbell, and partly his for not getting into the spaces for them to try and find him.
Much better 2nd half though and several nice moments with the ball at his feet.
What i would say though is that whilst not every player is a Jonny Hogg type, by the same token this is the Championship.. a tough physical division, and any side is going to find it harder to compete if they have a player who actively avoids any sort of physical challenge whatsoever. And thats what Smith Rowe did throughout the game. Thats not good enough. You have to be prepared to scrap and tackle as best as you can. As soon as they got the ball we were effectively down to 10 men. He was so pityfully uninterested in going into a challenge with any of the Brentford players, he made Mbenza look like Stuart Pearce!

A bit harsh on Smith Rowe I think, Cap'n. A young, totally inexperienced lad at this level who, in the first half, must have been wondering where he had come to as the ball kept sailing over his head towards Campbell (to absolutely no effect - where was Mounie?). Second half - for 10 minutes - we actually passed it to him and he looked very promising.
As for players avoiding physical contact - have you see Kachunga, Flo and Chalobah this season ?

Not criticising him for his play, for the reasons you say. Just think being young and inexperienced isn;t an excuse for pulling out of every single physical challenge in a game. The players you mention might not be great in a challenge ( they aren't! ) but they at least try and put one in. Lads got to learn, this isn;t netball- its a physical game and hes got to do his bit, or at the very least try to. Id be amazed if the Cowleys aren't on at him about it this week.

Not really a comment on Kachunga’s continuing decline BUT....can someone explain why at corners, when he’s not fouling anyone and isn’t being fouled in return, and is just playing a bit of cat and mouse with the defender around the keeper....WHY...do the referees halt play and tell him off at pretty much 80% of our corners?? He’s doing exactly what he’s supposed to be doing surely??
I feel like I’m missing a new law of the game or something, a bit like the ref did, allowing Brentford to have a player stood right on our wall for a first half free kick 🤷♂️

Town looked decent today, good to see a well disciplined performance after the last two terrible league games. Brentford didn’t look incredible, there most dangerous being Said Benrahma who is a cut above the championship.
I agree with most people saying how well the centre half partnership looked - imo Ollie Watkins is the best striker in this league and he did nothing. Hard to pin point any poor performances Except Kachunga and Grant (what a chance he had).
However an unpopular opinion... Chalobah better than O’Brien today. For me O’Brien just didn’t contribute enough; but by no means does this excuse Chalobah’s quite simply shit previous performances.
Anyway UTT

Was really looking forward to this game and in the end, turned out to be a bit of a damp squib. First half was a non-entity as a spectacle, 2nd half much better. As has been said, Steerman excellent, as good a debut from a Town player as I can remember; Toffolo also very good, even more so when you consider he was the only one out there who played midweek and has stepped up a division; ESR anonymous first half but showed enough in the 2nd to suggest he’s going to be a very good signing; Chalobah’s best game for some time but still frustrates. Hogg available again for the Hull match and I’d expect him to stroll back into the side at his expense. Draw a fair result, Brentford are well organised but they didn’t blow me away and along with other results today, it once again highlighted that everybody has the potential to beat everyone else in this league and that whoever does get promoted will struggle like hell in the PL.

Don't mean to be rude Epsom but your old Queen must be getting on! Hope she can still chew the carvery meat! 96 Oti and got all her marbles. She only has a small plate and a curry isn’t really her thing! Good for her Epsom...she will, of course, be able to name the 1933-34 league runners up team.

ESR played the pass of the match with his low cross to set up grant
He also played the quick freekick to play in grant down the left to which we should've done a lot better.
he attempted two long range shots
10's are there to create and score - in 45 mins he has done as much or more than pritchard in the last 2 years.
Invisible first half but overall I'm relatively happy with his debut; i'm sure a goal will give him even more confidence.

People need to realise Chalobah is in the team because he's the only midfielder we have with any height. We have a very small squad (height wise aswell as numbers) and Chalobah is in there to offer more protection when defending set pieces That would hold weight if he was any good in the air. He isn’t, he’s dreadful, just like he is at everything else.
The bits of our game they showed on quest sum Trevoh up for me, Nowhere near any opponent at any moment, plays on his heals rather than his toes.
We must be contractually obliged to play him when fit.
Big lad who should be a powerhouse, sadly for us, At the moment he simply isn't.

I irritatingly missed the game but was pleased by the result, some on the forum were predicting a hammering at the hands of Brentford , thankfully this was avoided ,and we also picked up an important point against our relegation rivals.
I would not be in the least bit unhappy if we were to finish in this position at the end of the season , I have nothing against the likes of Luton, Wigan or Barnsley I just hope these three or maybe Charlton are all below us come the end of the season. UTT.

I was encouraged by yesterday's performance and our 3 new starters all did well. King wasn't on the pitch long enough for me to form an opinion. With over a week before our next game I expect further improvement at Hull. Central midfield is the conundrum, with Hogg, King, Chalobah and O'Brien chasing two places. I would give serious consideration to replacing Schindler with Stankovic because JGS is so much better with the ball at his feet. If we intend to keep playing out from the back then Schindler is an accident that keeps happening. So far transfers have been one in,one out. To get the two specialist wide men we need, as neither Grant nor Kachunga fit that description, it seems we need to shift 2 out of Diakbenza, Bockhorn and Mounié. Keeping Steve gives us a plan B from the bench, so I hope it's 2 of the others. Chalobah had his best game yet for us ( not that the bar was set very high). All things considered, a good day for Town. We have prevented one of the most potent teams in the division from scoring twice this season, no mean achievement given the turmoil in which we found ourselves.

That 'pass of the game' was inexcusably left by the Brentford defender who went to clear it but seemed to pull out of the clearance whether he's had a shout from the keeper or he didn't realise Grant was there, I don't know but watch the replay closely.
