What was Bacuna’s problem today. I’ve called Kachunga a few times this season, but at least he try’s. Bacuna couldn’t even be arsed running when he came on.

Town did well today. Arguably best chance of the game which Grant spaffed.
We are work in progress but signs look good. Pleased with all new recruits a d dressing room will no doubt be a better place once we get a few more faces in.

That first half was pathetic and we have to stop sweeping these games under the table and not getting to the root of the problem. What, genuinely, have we set up in the first half to do? Can anyone tell me the plan in that first half other than to drop deep and defend against Brentford's football with zero attacking intent, what was the plan to break them down? what was the plan to score a goal? what was the plan to win a game of football? yet again in a full 45 minutes of football, we have had 1 header off target? and maybe 2 corners? in 45 minutes of football........ It isnt entertainment, its barely even classed as football. Were we playing against Liverpool at Anfield today? There should be no team in this league who comes here and we play like that against. In my opinion we set out for a point from minute 1 and unlike the last few games, we got a point. The tactics and mentality at times are garbage and its so frustrating having to sit through that. 45 minutes of pure boredom, 1 half chance header after about 40 minutes to get excited about. How can we create an atmosphere and push the players on, when we are treated to that!
For 25 minutes in the second half we then showed what we can do, and what we are capable of, when we get it right on the pitch and tactically, and show some desire to go and get a goal. Then on about 70 minutes we seemingly went back to inviting them on, giving the ball away and defending again. I am not arrogant enough to say we should play like that for 90 minutes every game and wipe the floor with every opponent, but full halves of football once again of that shite quality, really need sorting, and very quickly indeed. I fear playing like this with little entertainment that crowds will plummet next season, and I so dont want to go back to playing in a half empty stadium again after all the floaters our success attracted.
A quick note for Stearman, that was a fantastic debut, I feared a bit like an Elphick signing, but he was so composed, won headers, controlled the defence, made some fantastic blocks, and he lasted the full 90 minutes despite barely playing a game this season. We really do need at least 1 new winger, we need to bench Chalobah, and we need a new plan, better tactics and a very quick stop to these negative halves of football where the entire entertainment comprised of 2 whole corners and an off target header. Why has Cowley not sorted it out, how many more halves of that calibre are we going to be treated to, because if he could let us know, I can just show up for the 2nd half.

He has definitely been a worthwhile signing but not sure I would be looking to extend Simpson’s contract after this season, I can’t work out if he isn’t match fit or his legs have gone. He might be a really positive influence but I think I would put his wages towards a more all rounder right back.

While ever we have Chebolah and Kachunga in the starting line up we are playing with a weakened side. I agree Chebolah had a better game today however in the first five minutes he did not go for a 50/50 challenge and in the second half with the ball at his feet and running forward he was clueless. Personally I would have liked to have seen Stankovic playing instead of him from the start as he has the height needed to help defend and win balls in midfield and looks far more comfortable on the ball. Many players have been returned to their clubs in the January transfer window and I would have liked this to happen with him in order to free up another loan place. Kachunga is now so far off the pace going forward that he cannot receive the balls sent by Simpson, cannot get around defenders, cannot cross and when opportunities present in front of goal is highly unlikely to score. From what Cowley said there may be more coming in which can only be good news as the four we have brought in so far have really improved the squad and also created competition for places. I thought n the whole we did a good job on Brentford who are on of the best teams in the league now and but for the miss by Grant we could even have taken three points however I am happy with the one we gained and a clean sheet UTT

Happy with a point. Happy with the new signings. Not happy with Chabolah starting every week. Hogg to replace him in the next game. The season and survival in this division is now in good hands. Quietly confident UTT. Not Chalolah's biggest fan, however he had a decent game today! Get off his back! He can be frustrating, but today he was good, let's support the players & team. Danny & Nicky know their stuff, they have a tough job this season! Stay in the Championship this season & we go again next season - UTT. Not so sure in first half, but second half almost looked like a football player.

Excellent post - I must admit that, much as I love the Cowleys, they do set us up as though we're absolutely desperate for a 0-0 draw at home. A year ago we were playing Liverpool,Chelsea,Man City - today you would have thought they were again our opponents. 2 other points - what hold has Kachunga got over the manager - 4 new signings and still a starter ? And if we're going to play long then play Mounie - Campbell (another "worker" but not very good) NEVER wins balls in the air.

people don't rate Kachunga, but the lad (remember his first position is as a striker) covers more grass than any other player. sure he lacks pace and sometimes a little nous, but he doesn't ball watch like our almost static midfielders. He tries to run the channel and more importantly he protects the full back on his side.
The new lads looked class. Not out of place at all.

Smith Rowe looked very good today but i know there’s more to come.
I’ve seen him play several times for Arsenal. Usually from a wide position so it was no surprise to see him put that one on a plate for Grant. Shame he dint repay the favour shortly after when could have put him through.
You do have to give him the ball or the game could pass him by. He’d have made no difference at Barnsley.
I’m glad he’s playing 10 cause we desperately need a spark there but if Pritchard ever gets fit or we fail to get a winger. He’s definitely an option wide as well.

Felt like this after watching Wigan and Barnsley away, feels like it’s a Cowley stonewall tactic that you nullify first half and win in the second after you’ve tired them out. It’s a lower league mentality and horrible to watch when what you’re playing is shit (Barnsley). I trust them, they clearly know how dire a situation we’re in but if we stay up we need to be bolder in our thinking next year.

1st half performance was dreadful and could only see a Brentford win coming. 2nd half - so much better. We competed and gave them something to think about. Draw was a fair result in the end. Grabara - He does some things comfortably/confidently but other things woefully - mainly with his feet. There are too many mistakes in him and there was another bad one today. 6/10 (boosted due to clean sheet). Expected better from a Liverpool GK. Simpson - Reasonably solid and the team has undoubtedly improved since he came in. Has the odd loose pass in him but he's the best we've got at RB at the moment. He worried me today by how much he backed off Benrahma... It's a good job he had an average day. 6.5/10. Stearman - I thought it was harsh on JGS to drop him but my oh my was I proved wrong. Stearman was absolutely fantastic today. Faultless. A proper CB performance with a few Cruyff Turns chucked in too 9/10. Schindler - Pretty solid from Schindy. Looked comfortable alongside Gerard Piqué Perhaps fortunate not to receive 2nd yellow card - 7/10Toffolo - Impressive debut. Was key to the change in momentum in 2nd half as got forward really well. Put in the best cross of the game that no Town player attacked/gambled on. I liked what I saw - 8/10 Chalobah - I've criticised this guy week after week (I still think he's crap), but today was easily his best performance in a Town Shirt. Deserves some praise today but I'm not convinced that we'll see it again too often - 7/10O'Brien - Our most consistent performer this season. Was solid again today. It's a bit depressing that a young lad fresh from the academy and playing in League 1 last year has been our best player when we are fresh out the PL but it's where we are at. Keep it up Lewis - 7/10Smith-Rowe - Not in the game first half so not even comment worthy. Had more space and touches of the ball in 2nd half and got better as the game went on. Could see his confidence growing too. Will watch with interest over coming weeks - 6/10Kachunga - Sorry if this seems harsh but he's chuffing garbage. It's sad really as he looks nothing like the EK of 16/17. Plays the entire game with his back to goal and its like we are playing with 10.5 players with him on the field. 3/10Grant - Not looking anywhere near as sharp in the last few weeks. Hope it's just a blip in form and not linked to a January transfer. Playing out of position again but we are limited on options. Missed an absolute gobber - 5/10Campbell - Always gives his all and there were some neat touches as usual. Not suited to playing up top on his own but we literally have no wingers so Grant plays left - 6/10SUBS: Hadergjonaj - Offered more than Kachunga but that was not difficult. Would start Flo over Kachunga @ Hull if we haven't managed to bring in a winger - 6/10Bacuna - Didn't particularly influence the game once introduced - 5/10King - Same as Bacuna - 5/10The Cowley Brothers - They know what they are working with and it's limitations. They knew if they got into an open game against Brentford - it would likely end badly. People sat near me were critising him for not bringing on Mounié instead of King and accused him of negative tactics. Not me - 8/10Fans - Atmosphere shit again. I know we are not watching the best but come on guys - 4/10

Just okay. Put 100 percent into the tackle 5 mins from time. I might consider him. I only saw 50 percent, so it's a no from me.

As for playing the entire game with his back to goal well that's just not true is it? The other difference being Kachunga isn't constantly offside and doesn't give away stupid free kicks all the time. As for playing the entire game with his back to goal well that's just not true is it? He made plenty of forward runs, more often than not coming to nothing, but equally not helped by Grant and Campbell taking forever to get anywhere near the box. Who was the weakest player out there today? Seriously. IMO for a 2nd game running, Campbell. I don't see what he adds at all. Never gets himself in goalscoring positions, hands possession over with numerous offsides and free kicks given away, doesn't really combine with anyone and is useless in the air. And Grant had a pretty poor game as well. Messed up 1 on a plate some other players would be slaughtered for, and messed up 2 men clean through on goal by not looking up. Aside from that, didn't offer much.

I know we are not watching the best but come on guys - 4/10I’d say that this is a very accurate assessment. I like Kachunga but now feel his run in the team must come to an end. Missed Hogg as we usually do when he’s not available.

4 new signings, none of which play in Kache's position. That's why. Who would you play in his position? Now that we have Toffolo, RW is top priority & if we can get a deal over the line I expect Kachunga's days as an automatic starter are numbered. Useful squad player but not much more now, unless he can recapture his form from 3 years ago.

Arguable, although there is a case for having him on the LHS with Toffolo adding width on the outside. I do agree with you, but if we had to choose 1 to be top priority, then RW would be my pick.

Stay in the Championship this season & we go again next season - UTT. a good team performance and chabolah did well today

I’ve still never seen a decent performance from Grant and he was absolutely woeful today. No pace, lost every header, couldn’t make the ball stick and consistently chose the wrong moment to release the ball to team-mates. Would much rather have Mounié playing (and I can hardly believe I’m saying that.
