Clearly you need to be very closely micro managed in your working life I manage my department by empowering my team, encouraging decision making and welcoming diverse opinions. I would rather work in a collaborative than dictative environment. My boss gives me similar autonomy I have ultimate say for all decisions and responsibility for what happens but listen to others whose opinions I respect. I am not scared of strong opinions and not too stubborn to accept someone else may have a better idea. Only a weak leader would be! Still see no issue with having lots of leaders I can't help but say that you have a very high opinion of yourself and this is not the place for self aggrandisement Seriously you have too many diverse opinions you should be more dictative and micro manage a better collaborative ambience on this site. Indubitably you must learn more buzz words to promote yourself as intelligent and important. You may then get the autonomy you are sadly lacking.

Butterfield - We aren't getting Jack Wilshire for £800k guys calm down! Butterfield is 24, he's only started 90 games and made 65 sub appearances - I ask why? That's a big percentage of appearances from the bench for a centre mid. Not saying he would be a bad signing but it stands out....
He started 20 games last season, 11 as sub.
Clayton is 25 and started over 180 games, another 10 from the bench.
May be a good deal financially in the circumstances ie Clayton having 1 year left - although that itself is bad management from Town.
We do need another centre mid but far far more concerned we haven't brought in a centre half or a striker. Two key "quality" signings required there (I took the 3 quality signings promised to mean before our best player last season leaves...and hence it would need to be 4 quality signings - 2 of those must be a centre half an striker)
Centre half was also Dean Hoyle's key target after 2012/13 season....15 months on and we still haven't signed a quality centre half.

Well clearly I've not explained myself and come across wrong. If I sound an arse then clearly that's not my intention. I've clear had a 'mare so deserve a bit of stick! Point I was making in my experience - and that's all I can draw on - is you don't need to micromanage and in fact it's healthy to have diverse opinions and ambitious, strong characters who are not confident enough to voice them Most international teams have 4/5 club captains, and that's the pinnacle of football. It isn't a problem IMO to have a dressing room full of leaders Ha, get to screwfix for a spade if your going to keep digging. Nah going to get outside now and enjoy my weekend Stand by original point on it being ok having lots of leaders Wish I'd put it a different way but never mind. It must be nice for a change not being the only bell end on the site Superlopez!

No I am not pal. You obviously haven't played sport at semi professional or professional level. Just like at work you need direction from a director (MR) and a manager (LP) if everyone is chipping in, you need to be an extremely good man manager to make it work. Not necessarily a leader. Clearly you need to be very closely micro managed in your working life I manage my department by empowering my team, encouraging decision making and welcoming diverse opinions. Still see no issue with having lots of leaders good post have been in a dressing room or two with plenty of strong characters but leadership comes from within like motivation . All the crap we see from some on here ie no passion not trying no pride in the shirt ect is mostly bollocks . its just that some players need handling different from others.

Still see no issue with having lots of leaders Most I've cringed in a while. Cut the lad some slack - even Peltier the new Captain says we need a lot of leaders on the pitch. My own view is that football is a very strange psychological bubble far removed from the real world - and sometimes a strong dictatorial manager can paper over the cracks and get a squad of players "believing" - but more often than not you can get micromanagers like Lee Clarke who virtually used to stand on the touch and tell Gary Roberts which bit of space he ought to be in, and in whom belief soon disappears. "I Believe" - not sure what in though.

I didn't ask for a job application. Although if someone wrote that bollox applying for a job in my company I'd chuck it straight in the bin. Edited for even greater accuracy

Back to football and this drawn out saga with Clayton and Butterfield, it say's in this morning's Northern Echo that Butterfield has not yet agreed to join Town.
Clayton could also be in the Boro squad for the trip to Elland Road after a renewed round of discussions with Huddersfield officials resulted in some progress yesterday afternoon.
Having previously rejected a move to Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium, Jacob Butterfield was finally persuaded to at least hold talks with the Terriers.
Butterfield has not still conclusively agreed to move to West Yorkshire, but the midfielder has softened his stance considerably in the last 24 hours and is now not expected to be part of the Boro squad for today’s game with Birmingham.
Instead, he will continue to ponder his future, with Huddersfield officials hoping to be able to complete a deal at the start of next week.
That would enable Boro to sign off their own capture of Clayton, with the proposed personal terms of the 25-year-old’s move already having been agreed with his representatives.
Yesterday morning, Mark Robins claimed he was minded to select Clayton for Huddersfield’s opening game of the season against Bournemouth, but subsequent developments mean it would now be a surprise if the midfielder was part of the Terriers squad.

Whats the difference in Clayton & Butterfield? None, neither of them want to play for us. Why chase a player that clearly doesn't want to join us?

That piece comes across as total bollocks to me, Boro just trying to play it as tho they are in the driving seat, which they clearly aren't.

I know what you are saying, but on the inside workings of club transfers, this will probably happen often, but does not get out to the public. I look at it if Town want a player and he has potential to improve and make us a hefty profit in the future then trying to make that deal happen is what i would expect my club to try for!!

News is getting more confusing by the hour. Clayton has lit a fuse under the deals and not turned up at Middlesbrough for his medical.....so no idea where that leaves Butterfield.

We did this well with Rhodes and others previously.

Re. butterfield not wanting to join assumption. Could it not be that he stood his ground to get a better deal for himself rather than being forced into a transfer. Think I'd do the same if my employer decided they were going to replace me and thought I would just play ball and make everything easy.
This assumption that Butterfield didn't want to join us is probably b0ll0x

This assumption that Butterfield didn't want to join us is probably b0ll0x I believe it to be half true at best. At the time that was being said we had not even met with Butterfield. I was just looking at the One Boro board and most of them don't want Clayton there now. In fact their biggest concern is the rumor that the Butterfield deal may have already gone through (I doubt that myself). I feel sorry for him at this point to be honest. Sounds like he came here, agreed a deal in good faith, has been told he has no future there, and now the whole deal seems to be falling apart because Clayton and his agent want more money. Puts him in a very awkward situation.

We did this well with Rhodes and others previously. exactly, you either force them to sign a new contract through physical force, or totally capitulate and give whatever terms a player asks for! simple to understand isn't it. the club are obviously clueless and lacking in management ability if they can not understand this.

And what if the player, not being a debentured slave, refuses to extend the contract? I think the pay rise he earned may have just helped him over the line to extend the contract.... You're not telling me he wouldn't have accepted a pay rise for an extra 12 months?! He can still force a move, we can still sell - that happened with Rhodes.

The news must put this deal even further up in the air as Robins was probably a big part in him agreeing to sign
