2nd top scorer in League One. When fit an absolute handful as we saw in his first two seasons before injury struck again.
Don't get the animosity towards him. He can't help his injuries and could never sustain the training regime Wagner had.

Heard Sunderland are looking at Neil Danns and a loan for some big lad called Arismendi as well.

James Vaughan makes Darren Anderton seem like Captain bloody Scarlet (you have to be a certain vintage to get that one )

Great player and will score goals for them, assuming he stays fit which is a HUGE assumption. No bad feelings from me.

Can't believe the reaction of some on here. James Vaughan almost single handedly kept us from falling back into League 1 and helped lay the foundation for where we are today.

Yes but there was a very good reason he dropped in to league one. He had become poor for us and sounded like he was even worse at Birmingham. If Sunderland want to get back at the first attempt then signing someone like Vaughan isn't the way to do it. Unless they've brought a young physio in this summer and see Vaughan as the ideal patient to help them gain experience

£900,000 24 goals in 37 games last season Reunited with manager he knows well and delivers for 29 tomorrow.
Gamble worth taking?
Fuck yes.

If Sunderland want to get back at the first attempt Not a chance. They're better off ctting their cloth (and I presume there's a lot of cloth to cut) and do things to a budget whilst looking for value.

A bigger car crash of a club than Villa - can see them dropping to L1 with the quality in the Championship next season. Think SG has made a (footballing if not financial) big mistake going there.

Agree in that I can't see them above bottom half. Can't see Grayson taking them down either though. Preston, on the other hand, weren't far off the great playoff gamble, big surprise to see Grayson give up on a project halfway through. Bury have essentially swapped Vaughan for Beckford, Clark taking an even bigger gamble.

Bury looking to replace him with Lee Novak. Their carpets will be very dirty then. Leg End for us.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Norwood rock up at Sunderland aswell.

£900k is nothing for them, a really cheap gamble well worth taking IMO. On his day he could be the best striker in that division. Will he have many days? Who knows. Evidence from the last year says that he might be back to somewhere near his best. In terms of fitness, he played more games last season than he has during any other season in his career. And in the context of a division where guys like McCormack and Rhodes aren't even scoring any goals and are still being passed around between desperate clubs for ridiculous fees, £900k for Vaughan is an absolute steal, no matter what his wages are.

Some very, very short memories on here. [/quote Agreed, superb on his day and an absolutely key figure in allowing us the platform to build where we are today. Him on the team sheet gave us a chance even when we were crap. His injury record is the defining factor in what enabled us to vet him. Had we had him in league one he would be more highly regarded than Rhodes.

I hope he does well for them, and that he puts a few past L666s and the Missive. Almost one million seems steep in view of his age and injuries, all the same. I'd have said 500k max.
