Handball looked deliberate to me. Looked similar to the Brentford game where Hudson was beaten so had to resort to a bit of foul play to try get even. He's a risk. His reactions not so slow then?

John Terry possibly slower than Huddy now?

Earlier this week he was the slowest Town player ever, despite the game speeding up beyond recognition in my time watching Town from the early seventies. Now apparently he's the slowest current professional in the English game. I would suggest over-exageration is exactly what it is - Especially when you state yourself, it is nothing but conjecture on your part! You wouldn't even comment on the Newcastle centre backs defending because you weren't at the game but strangely you are now happy enough to know the pace of each pro of each English club to rate our captain dead last! Gosh I'm glad we are joint top! Otherwise our fans might start criticising our players I don;t like to comment on games i haven't seen and don;t gain my opinions from endless stats. Do i always have to point out that you can form an opinion by what you see without the need for reams of data and statistical analysis? i don;t remember ever seeing a slower town player. Thats just an opinion and one Im sticking by as its genuinely true- i don't. So it therefore figures i doubt theres a slower player currently in the football league. Unsworth. Lucketti version 2. Dave Phillips. Barry Horne. Andy Morrison. Eddie Youds. Rob Page. Onoura (version 2). Some of those would surely give him a "run" for his money.

I would add most centre halves from the seventies and eighties except maybe Keith Hanvey and Simon Webster. Oh and an opinion can be honest but for it to be genuinely true, it would have to be a proven fact

I'm not sure comparing a 2016 centre back to those from decades gone by is really a good comparison since the game has got faster and more reliant on pace.
I actually thought I was going back a bit far with Neal Trotman.

The problem we have is we have 2 players who have consistently led the team and set the foundations for the Wagner Revolution from day 1. Hudson and Whitehead he won't rotate one without brining in the other and Hogg is making himself undroppable so for now Hudson stays. Also the way I see it is when Hudson plays we make one position weaker but at least 4 stronger.

have to agree regarding Hudson we seem to struggle when he doesn't play.

Hudson is clearly coming to the end of his career. I have reservations about him, particularly his lack of pace when facing pacy, tricky players who run at him and big strong centre forwards who are strong in the air. He's also not the best passing the ball out from the back, which is a major part of our game.
That said, he is a leader who is held in high regard by manager and players alike. He has experience of this division in spades. He won't be a permanent fixture in our team for much longer, but he has qualities that the manager obviously thinks are worth giving him a starting spot and the captaincy. Despite my reservations about him on the technical and physical sides I am quite prepared to back Wagner and his judgement. After all he's forgotten more about football than I'll ever know. I remember watching Town play some of the best football I've ever seen under Steve Bruce at the start of the 1999-2000 season. And who were the centre halves for much of that time? Jon Dyson and Kevin Gray - two limited centre halves, particularly with the ball at their feet. They shouldn't have been part of a side playing such good, effective football, but they were. Injuries gave them their chance and they played a full part in the success enjoyed by that side in the first part of that season. Sometimes things just work. Hudson has his weaknesses, but at the moment he is playing as part of a winning side. I'd like to think that the news lads will be getting their chances in the not too distant future, but at the moment Hudson has the shirt and Wagner is happy with him. That'll do for me. Think you can apply that to many centre halves tbh - they are all troubled by that type of player. Not many quick, tricky players chose to play at centre half so its almost by definition that they are lacking quite a lot of skill and are poor on the ball. That's why the likes of Bobby Moore, Ferdinand, Baresi, Hummels etc are so exceptional.

Hudson is a tricky one. He always gets a lot of stick and often seems to be mentioned on the commentary every time the defence cock up. I've been guilty of highlighting this when it appears on the commentary.
We do seem to play better however, when he's on the field though and the handful of times I've actually seen him play for Town, he's always looked a lot better than I expected. The same can be said for Smith.

Won us a point tonight. Twice. Clearance off the line in the first half and the block from Gestede in the second. Take a bow. Immense.

In his post match interview DW stressed again how everybody is working hard and that we deserve the start we have had. He also added that the supporters have to do their fair share, in my mind that's not just the away contingent, or the NSL but every supporter, including those on here. Lets not get in to the habit of continually knocking our players.Leave that to the outsiders. Hudson was a star today - and saved us that point, a true captains performance.

Hef, who Hudson is effectively keeping out, appears to love Hudson.
That's good enough for me.

Villas front two will give most defences a lot of problems, two great pieces of work from Hudson last night to be fair to him. Hefele or Stankovic will no doubt get their chance as it'll only be a matter of time before Hudson gets a suspension, he's on there bookings already and will get more as the fact any pace he had leads him to making quite a few very dangerous last ditch tackles.
The he rest of the players seem to really look up to him and Wagner seems to value his leadership skills on the pitch. Would suspect Hefele and Stankovic will see plenty of game time as the season progresses and they get more up to speed with things.

Would still like to see Hef blooded in though before xmas You might get your wish pretty soon. Three League games and three bookings already for Hudson. Is the first suspension still for five cards? If so, at this rate, he could be suspended for Leeds.

Real captain's performance from Mark Hudson last night. Early on put his head in with boot flying at him. Terrific clearance off the line. In second half great block when keeper had half saved a shot and got clattered for his troubles. Really great defending to turn their left side player inside when he was shaping to shoot. Great positioning on numerous occasions to block out runners and protect his team mates. Really impressive.

No matter how well Town are doing there are still some town fans who like to have a player that be their boo-boy It would seem that Hudson is currently that choice Third in the league, unbeaten, away win at Newcastle, draw at Villa both touted as automatics for promotion and the fella still attracts the moaners When he didn't play we lost to a third division team
Shame some of the moaners are not as positive about the team as the team and manager are!

He was absolutely bloody immense last night. Football is all about opinions and you, I and others of course rate Hudson, others dont and that is there perogative. For me it's more if Hudson had say made one mistake last night that led to a goal. The talk on here from certain quarters wouldn't be the 99 things he did right, but the 1 thing he did wrong (and importantly no recognition for the 99 things, sole focus would be his mistake). If we want our Players to express themselves, try things and feel comfortable in doing so. They have to feel they can do so without being jeered or booed if something doesn't quite work or a mistake happens. This should apply to Hudson the same as any other Player in the Team and he should not be an exception.
