Trevor Kettle is another that seems to get stick from fans of many different clubs. Mike Jones will always be on our hit list for sending Worthington off at Accrington. Was he the fellow who allowed that extraordinary Pawel Abbott goal v Lincoln in 2004?

I'm going to go against the grain.
It seems that 95% of refs get slagged off 95% of the time. Surely if virtually every ref is getting criticised in nearly every game, it is a harder job than we perceive, plus even the more objective of us still wear a shade of rose tinted glasses.
Watch virtually any game on TV and the amount of times the home fans call it wrong is hilarious (Everton seem to stand out for some reason).
There's the odd really crap one out there, but overall I think we are unfair, but more from the perspective it must be harder than we think and I bet most of us would make the same ir different mistakes.

Excellent. Complete throbber that guy. In terms of the "top refs", only Clatternburg outdicks Mike Dean.

It's not the mistakes that are the problem.
There are enough officials and technology in the ground now to be able to balance up a refs performance over 90 minutes.
It's the inconsistency to a particular side in a particular game that's the problem,

This means we could be lumbered with him He's got the Barnsley Leeds match When you think about it though - how utterly ludicrous is that? The guy is incompetent / prone to glaring errors (delete as applicable) therefore we will inflict him upon a different league where he can cause even more controversy there instead. What's wrong with giving the guy an enforced rest - and maybe some extra training or whatever? Speaks volumes about the incompetent fools who make these decisions in my view.

This means we could be lumbered with him I fondly remember us playing Forest with him reffing, they finished with 9 men. Although, being Town, I think we still drew Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards

Was just gonna post something very similar. Let's demote him to the league below, and hope he gets better. Madness.

There's an interview with Mark Halsey here. He mentions that they no longer have assessors at matches and how this affects the way refs get feedback.

The money sloshing around in football & those at the top simply can't be arsed to ring fence some of this to improve refereeing standards...
It's the ultimate kick in the teeth - the more money goes into players/agents pocket, petulant cheating players at that, whilst the people trying to keep them in check are a poor relation.
Speaks volumes - the paying customers that keep them feckers in a job are secondary to their objective of keeping the whole machine turning in their favour.
As others have said, if they're performing poorly let's relegate them - out of sight, out of mind... It can hardly be described as dealing with the problem.

the bloke today was more bothered about little petulant things like taking the player back about a yard at set pieces, although he wasnt the worst we have had this season by a long way. The Wells penalty incidents were never penalties looking right at them, the handball was down the other end so whether it was a pen or not I couldnt say. Maybe the Derbys and Newcastle of this world would have had a pen today but no way would we get them. The Lawrence yellow card was also quite amusing for some reason

Brighton v Wed game. Why aren't Refs more assertive? They should be right in there in the ruck telling the players they're the boss.
Hardly surprising players take the piss. Not the first time I've seen them showing a lack of authority on the pitch...

How have the ref and linesman both missed that foul on Hernandez in the box in the Chelsea - Hull match?
Also the foul on him in the build up to the Costa goal was reminiscent of the foul on Wells for Wednesday's first last week, although not that blatant.
Another unfashionable club just not getting the decisions.

Another unfashionable club just not getting the decisions. It's not paranoi, the bigger teams definitely get more breaks. I don't think it's a conspiracy though, rather psychological and/or being weak under pressure.. Also, a lot of linesman seem to hide, although I have heard the ref basically tells them he'll ask for their opinion when he wants it!

I found that a lot of the time if I was running a line with higher level ref, the brief before the game was exactly that on most occasions. I always found that the closer an incident was the more difficult it was to give a clear decision as the offside vision took priority when been told Offside and ball in/out of play in your third is yours and free kicks/penalties are mine. As they can now verbally communicate the poor style brief still goes on so that an assistant can make a call without the use of the flag and a Ref seems to have made the decision on his own.

Only major negative (though we won so I guess it's ok) is he didn't send off Bruno in the first 10mins (though credit to him for not thinking it was too early for the first booking for him).

Wasn't even the first 10. I looked up at the clock - 1:57. To be fair, I felt a second yellow on first viewing might have been a little harsh, the ball was there to be won and he did well to err on the side of caution. As good as we've had this season.
