What..leaving us with one left sided attacking player, who might not fit in? That would be backwards...if anything, we need VLP plus this lad if he joins AND a third (although I doubt that will happen). On right will likely be Ince and Kach, with Quaner covering for injury and cups. Why are you assuming that we've got out business done for the transfer period? Pretty sure that we'll spend well over 5 mil. This is but one piece of the puzzle. Why are you suggesting that’s what I’m assuming? That’s ridiculous. My post was a response to the direct comment that the suspected upcoming arrival of Ramadan meant that we’re going to offload Ince, Kachunga or Quaner as a direct result, when obviously the arrival of a left sided player has no bearing whatsoever on what happens to them. The original poster I replied to made a statement akin to, “we’ve signed Kongolo, so that means Tommy Smith has to go”. Tommy Smith might well be surplus, but not because of Kongolo, just as Kachunga wouldn’t be leaving because we’ve signed a left sided player! Understand? (I prob should have left out the final sentence though...I meant to write it from a position of “now + Ramadan” but failed).

Being called Ramadan, he must be fast. If we sign him he will be hungry to start the season. Eid' better be.

Have we not learned to trust Wagner’s opinion yet? Jesus, let’s wait and see the lad play a game or 2 for us before completely writing him off

Schindler - In a poor defence and poor championship team
Hefele - League 1 defender
Lossl - Poor season before he signed
Flo - Poor season before he signed, read (may be wrong) he refused to train
Depoitre - Poor at Porto
Etc
Would not be an 'overwhelming signing' I get that, and I do think we're going to need to break the transfer record twice in those wide attacking areas but this an area we need more quality and options in - and somewhow I trust Wagner!!

Without Quaner and his introduction at Wednesday in the play off match. £5m for a new player?, more like £350k for Walsall's star winger. Most of us get it, some Town fans though need to get a grip.

Wagner isn’t infallible and not all of his signings have been a success, but surely he’s got enough capital in the bank to earn the fans’ benefit of the doubt until we’ve at least seen the player kit up for us!

Looking at that video, he seems to have an air of unpredictability about him - you're never quite sure what he's going to do next, and with the level of technical abilty he seems capable of, that can only be a good thing. In terms of left-sided attackers, the only one who looked fully comfortable there was van la Parra, with our other attacking midfielders filling in (after all, Kachunga and Quaner were - strictly speaking - strikers when we signed them, and Ince is definitely more comfortable at the number 10 or right wing) - so having Sobhi there, who is actually capable of playing on the left to challenge VLP properly, may see better performances out of both VLP and him. After his comments in the press earlier this year, I'm expecting RVLP to leave this summer. My gut feeling on this transfer is... meh. For a club of our size he's not shit by any means and for most of our post war history, somebody of his quality would not just be great - he'd be amazing/unattainable. However in a position we really need to strengthen, I question whether he offers more than what we have already. Yes, it shows how far we've come that a £5m winger, who was a regular in the PL (albeit with a team that got relegated) doesn't particularly excite me but to me he looks like a slower version of RVLP. He'll get my backing, but this one is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. ETA: I'm not writing him off by any means. I won't declare any signing a success or failure until I've seen them play for us (for a decent amount of time). It's just speculation.

This fella didn't just do it at school. Alfie ConnI'm sure I remember Terry Curran doing it to score for Massive in late 70s to win a bet with manager Jack Charlton that he'd not score a header ? Probably, I was actually referring to sitting on the ball though. (-:

Has something, looks quick enough and has tricks a plenty. If you just watched this montage, and hadn't read any of the Stoke fans comments, I think folk on here would be gushing. looks a mile better than VLP, and likes to play through the middle or out wide. I understand there is the power of editing when putting these things together, but for $5M, looks a good signing. He's a quantum leap better than super Col, that's for sure. UTT That montage is him playing in the Egyptian league. Premier League is a big step up.

Last summer we spent around £5m on 26 year old left back Scott Malone...
£5m for a winger going to the world cup is peanuts.

Sobhi and his agent at Leeds Bradford Airport earlier today just to all but confirm this is happening (as long as nothing went wrong with the medical). The more posts I've read from the Stoke fans, the more enthused I am. A lot of them seem to think that despite a poor season, he could go on to be a great player and like others have said, the fact he is only 21 combined with Wagner's track record of improving players suggests that £5 million could be brilliant value for an international with Premier League experience. http://instagr.am/p/Bjhox9vFBKm

Another point, the Stoke fans mentioned how they made absolutely no use of Sobhi's huge following in Africa and there was no marketing or anything aimed at that market.
You can bet that won't be the case with Town, and it will be another 'territory' to add to the list to target. The guy has 4.1 million followers on Instagram and 1.37 million on Twitter! That is absolutely huge, he must be a star in Egypt and I imagine a fair few shirts will be getting shipped out that way....

Question... where is it going to leave us when it’s the african cup of nations? We are building more and more reliance on players who play for African teams (including ones who are swapping allegiance such as Quaner)

Wagner could massacre my entire family with a pencil while smiling and saying 'terrier identity' over and over and he'd still be massively in credit. A dodgy signing or two won't even register

Based purely on the video. Looks like he can use both feet, is comfortable with the ball and will take it even under pressure. Looks more right footed than left to be honest. Rather than VLP more like Pritchard. DW said similar things about Pritchard when he signed. Looks good value and with a DW pre season may get better.

Considering the regularity with which threads descended into puns suggests we’ve got a lot of Dads on this forum.
