If he's got a bit more of a footballing brain than RVLP, I'd happily sacrifice a bit of pace.

Only £5million I thought then remembered that just 2 years ago our entire squad only cost about a million more than that. I'm really enjoying being a Town fan these days

Unbelievable why Wagner doesn't canvass DATM before signing anyone. As we all know, players are either shit or great, and the DATM collective are the greatest experts. Personally I'm completely pissed off that we're not spunking 50 million on someone we've heard of. Unbelievable.

Has something, looks quick enough and has tricks a plenty. Could be a good player for us. But what’s with that standing on the ball “skill”, pointless!

Must be happening if the Egyptian fa tweet it. Can’t help but being underwhelmed. We were (unrealistically) linked with shakiri and we get Sobhi. Was hoping for someone from abroad who could put in a decent cross and had an eye for goal. Instead we get VLP mark II. I’ll give him a chance though and trust the management to get the best out of him. Still young too. we wont sign big name players. wagner doesn't operate like that. We need options in this dept. Or else we run the risk of having to name scannell in the pl squad.

As plenty of other Stoke fans have said, when he joined us he was severely overhyped, mainly by supporters from Egypt who saw him as the second coming of Ronaldo, Neymar and Messi rolled into one (our official Facebook page was swamped for months and would often go into an Egyptian meltdown when 'Coach Hughes' didn't play him ahead of Arnautovic, Shaqiri, Walters etc). I think his problems at Stoke came down to 1) He was built up to be something he wasn't by his International supporters - in fairness he was great in the Egyptian League but the Premier League is a massive step up, and 2) the absolute mess of a club we became in Hughes' final 18 months in charge . Nobody would have flourished in those conditions. For me he looks like a player who would benefit from dropping down a level, getting his confidence up against lesser teams and bouncing back from there. He doesn't want to play for us though so we're best moving him on quickly. I wouldn't say he's 'slow' although pace and getting past a defender at speed certainly isn't his game. He holds on to the ball up well, can beat a player with a bit of skill but his end product is very frustrating. He rarely shoots and tends to try and do too much before losing possession. He's still young though so £5 million is probably worth the gamble if Wagner feels he can get his career back on track. We had similar when we signed Joe Lolley, especially from one obsessed Kidderminster fan.

If he's good at holding the ball up in the corner while the opposition defence re-set, he's gonna be perfect for us.

We had similar when we signed Joe Lolley, especially from one obsessed Kidderminster fan. Had Robins and Powell handled him better, who knows how good he'd have become? Those fleeting moments he showed (the goal v. WHU, the LeTissieresque dribble v. Brentford on the opening day of the promotion season) might've been more frequent. Probably not, and it's water under the bridge now. This lad looks decent but much as praise from other fans should be taken with a grain of salt, so should YouTube clips. Consensus is that we need to improve on the wings, and VLP has at least hinted that he'd be up for leaving if an offer comes. If he does, Sobhi sounds like a more than adequate replacement, especially working with DW. Should VLP stay, then it's strength in depth.

This signing would tell me that one of Sabiri, Kachunga, Quaner, Ince or VLP is going. What..leaving us with one left sided attacking player, who might not fit in? That would be backwards...if anything, we need VLP plus this lad if he joins AND a third (although I doubt that will happen). On right will likely be Ince and Kach, with Quaner covering for injury and cups.

We just about got away with it last season but surely we learnt our lesson. We need much better on that side

For what it's worth I don't expect us to sign anyone on the right before January. We have to give Kach and Ince a proper chance after what has been a frustrating season.

Ince has had a proper chance and Kachunga looked pretty average in the games he played. He isn't quick enough so just slams the breaks on to make the defender run in to him and win a free kick. Gets a bit boring after a while Both good Championship players but we only need one of them and then sign someone of better quality to be first choice

Pretty sure that we'll spend well over 5 mil. This is but one piece of the puzzle.

Looking at that video, he seems to have an air of unpredictability about him - you're never quite sure what he's going to do next, and with the level of technical abilty he seems capable of, that can only be a good thing. In terms of left-sided attackers, the only one who looked fully comfortable there was van la Parra, with our other attacking midfielders filling in (after all, Kachunga and Quaner were - strictly speaking - strikers when we signed them, and Ince is definitely more comfortable at the number 10 or right wing) - so having Sobhi there, who is actually capable of playing on the left to challenge VLP properly, may see better performances out of both VLP and him.

Has something, looks quick enough and has tricks a plenty. If you just watched this montage, and hadn't read any of the Stoke fans comments, I think folk on here would be gushing. looks a mile better than VLP, and likes to play through the middle or out wide. I understand there is the power of editing when putting these things together, but for $5M, looks a good signing. He's a quantum leap better than super Col, that's for sure. UTT
