I think DW believes he can improve this lad,,,and yes he's not the finished article hence the price..our strategy was mainly to bring in lads who we can develop and this guy seems to have potential. I'll bow the DW's assessment, he obviously thinks it's worth a punt ...that'll do for me. What's a measly £5m anyway ?

My self esteem is fine and my ability to question anything anytime is alive and kicking, thank you very much. Calling folk stupid though for preferring one opinion over another is frankly embarrassing. I haven’t called anyone stupid for preferring one opinion over another. I don’t think you get what I’m saying Doc? What I called stupid is to use DW’s opinion to back up an opinion, insinuating that poster can’t be wrong to try shut down a discussion. Or to have no opinion at all, other than to say I’ll back DW’s opinion over an anonymous persons opinion. Having DW’s opinion is not actually having an opinion because unless you have actually spoken to DW you don’t actually know his opinion. "Trust DW", is a phrase often used. Of course we all trust him, he's getting a few miilion quid a year to be trusted. However, it's vital that folk question and discuss his decision making, whether that be the fans, Dean, D.O.F etc. Even the man himself. You won't win the argument with some though Craig

Has anybody considered that Sobhi might be a replacement for Sabiri who seems to be off out on loan? I don't remember all this fuss about Sabiri who was completely untried and tested. This lad is 20, he is an international who will play at the world cup. He has played his last 2 years at PL level and has won titles with the biggest club in Africa. I think there are a few town fans falling into the trap that Stoke appear to have fallen into of thinking they are better than they are. Give the kid a chance ffs. Or maybe the earlier rumours about VLP are true and we have had an offer. Similar replacement but cheaper with potential also

Hello guys. Egyptian Here. I want to give some info about Ramadan Sobhi. 3 years ago he was one of the best prospects in Egypt and Africa. he made it into Al-ahly team (Best team in Egypt and Africa) while he was around 17 years old. He did really well for the club and joined the national team and became one of the most important players in both club and nt. When he moved to stoke he didn't get so much playing time, but when he got the chance of playing he played really well and was one of the thier best players and their fans were excited about him. After a short time he was suddenly dropped off for no reason and that realy ruined his confidence. with low confidence and play time he has become a shadow of the player he realy was. Now he is no where the player he was supposed to be. lack of coaching, low confidence ,not enough playing time for a 20 years old lad is the major reasons of his failure. and of course he didn't do him self a favor and didn't improve his weakness points. so i don't exclude him from fault. any way here is his strength and weakness points imo: Positives: Young ,strong, good dribbler, tracks back and do his defensive work properly. Negatives: low end product, not pacey enough. for me the end product problem could be solved under good management (Specially that he is only 20). and of course Wagner is a very good manager and i believe he is going to improve him a lot. Any way Best of luck for you and him, And sorry for my bad English. here is some of his highlights from his time at al-ahly and stoke. Great post and your English is better than a lot of people on this board. Also it looks like the Egyptian invasian is going to be more inciteful than the Australian attack or the Kidderminster onslaught, so that’s good.

Guess time will tell, that’s if he passes the medical.

Exactly, bargain, definite improvement to the squad in at least one area, probably two, still very young and bonus we get to see another Town player in the world cup! If that’s your opinion of yourself I think you need to work on your self esteem. Of course you will prefer the opinion of Wagner over mine. What makes it stupid is that it is obvious and adds nothing to a conversation other than to try and one up someone without having any opinion. It’s also comparable to saying, I’ll let Wagner select the team, when someone questions a players performance. Why? Of course Wagner selects the team! But what has that poster contributed to the conversation, fuck all of nothing. My self esteem is fine and my ability to question anything anytime is alive and kicking, thank you very much. Calling folk stupid though for preferring one opinion over another is frankly embarrassing. Doc has great self esteem and is a top bloke.

His close control and balance look incredible. His dribbling looks excellent to the point that it will probably make up for lack of pace.
Now I’m not Wagner, but I don’t see this lad as a winger for our system. Maybe a Pritchard type player who can get space and create something out of a packed space, but to me this lad with his low centre of gravity and his shooting ability look far more suited to playing around the penalty area than he would up and down the wing.

Thought he looked decent against us on boxing day and to me improves the squad when compared to Sabiri and Quaner. Not all of our signings are going to be for £10m+, one or two bargains are needed to enable us to push the boat out for any marquee signings.
One thing I do remember about boxing day though was the frankly embarrassing booing of the lad when he thanked Allah after scoring.

I wonder if he was questioning where Allah was when Stoke went down Same with all these players who come running on to the pitch bouncing on one leg and then pointing up to the sky. It's ridiculous

If we get to see his goal celebration on a regular basis, quite frankly he can do whatever the hell he pleases. Although I might draw the line at that heart thing Bale does!

He's 21. Massive potential prior to the coaching of Hughes. Massive following which will only benefit us as a club. Sometimes it just doesn't work out at clubs for whatever reason. We are (if reports are true), parting with £5million on a 21 year old who can dribble for fun. Can't wait for this to happen. UTT.

I suspect the interest shown by Town for Sobhi was initially assumed (by news outlets) to be for Shaqiri due to him being the 'star' player. Lazy assumption. I would be amazed if there was ever any real interest from Town regarding Shaqiri and don't for one second believe this is even remotely likely.

Surely an upgrade to Sabiri who will go on loan right?
Either way, I only see upsides to this. Young, experienced and about to play in world cup

Would take Stoke fans opinions of him with a pinch of salt too, fans always love to call a player shite when they leave for a better club Although TBF the majority of the (then - probably more now) ten page thread on the Oatcake was posted either before the end of the season or prior to our interest and it doesn't make pleasant reading. In fact the comments (generally) improved after our interest. This could be (another) bargain or one of Wagner's very few mistakes. My money would be on the former.
