I think his defensive abilities are also under rated. He often tracked back and won the ball. Sorry but our main problem is up the other end.

Or, to put it another way, he often turned defense into attack, before he screwed up the final pass or ball. He's one of those players I like to criticise, but still want to see in the side, or on the bench at least.

Not a great fan of this over-rated show pony myself, but (like Scannell) I wouldn't mind at all seeing him on the bench, ready & raring to spring into action - could easily still be a trump card for us next year.

Trump card? Can’t see that, not even making Boro’s bench now, so I hope we will be setting our sights a bit higher than him next season. Good luck to him and thank you, but I don’t know where he will go next, maybe Holland? Having said that, after Jan has dumped all the wasters and the decent players have moved on, we might be needing him!

Have him back in an instant, Shifts the ball up field away from our area quickly and attracts a couple of opposition players which has to leave us with a man spare, Got me out of my seat did Raji, May just click under Jans tactics next season. Get him back.

Forgot to add, Works his nuts off and can track back covering ground with ease.
As we all know, His only downside being he over cooks stuff and cant finish for toffee, But he attracts opposition players for fun.

Exactly, massive part of our success last season and the one before. Staggering how many people can't or won't see it. Like marmite...or a modern day David Cowling. Sent from my SM-G920F using proboards

Totally agree that he has been a massive part of our success. I still remember his debut. He immediately got me out of my seat. Also remember his trickery in the penalty area and the way he tormented Bruno v Brighton. Be brilliant news if he came back imo .

Sent from my SM-G920F using proboards I wouldn't have thought Cowling and VLP were very similar at all, RoyR. Dave Cowling was one of the best crossers of the ball I've ever seen at Town, and scored some goals as well. Whatever VLP's strengths are, and even his supporters only seem able to offer that "he gets us up the field" (whatever that may mean) he is not in the same class as Cowling in terms of end product, nowhere near. His crossing and finishing really are dreadful. I know some of VLP's supporters try to educate me occasionally, by explaining what "getting us up the field" means and implying that I don't understand football tactics, but they do seem to accept that that is his main strength - a hell of a luxury to carry. It's only my opinion but I wouldn't have him back just for his diving alone - it not only became a weekly thing, literally, but put even Flo to shame, and that's saying something. I had hoped that Middlesborough would take him but accepted that as soon as he went there "on trial" that would never happen. They're not daft.

Having said that, after Jan has dumped all the wasters and the decent players have moved on, we might be needing him! I'm not arguing the merits of VLP, but it's far too simplistic to make the judgement based on him not making the bench at Boro. There will be literally thousands of examples of players leaving one club where it wasn't working and moving to another where they flourished or vice versa. Different surroundings and in particular different systems and players they compliment. My Oldham supporting mate swears Phil Starbuck is their worst ever player! What was Butterfield doing before we signed him, etc.

I enjoyed watching RVLP and got you off your seat frustrating as he was. BUT from what i know his "attitude" in the dressing room and training pitch is what got him moved on and not his talent or lack of. If he is the bad egg as alleged then no i don't want him back.

Crikey we need some transfer rumors! VLP is the past, failed to deliver goals and assists, there will be better out there for us..... and no I can't name names because I'm not the clubs scout or head coach. Time to stop looking to the past, getting boring now.

Its time to better our attacking options and for me we need to overhaul our forwards who can actually trouble the opposition goalkeeper.

I'm sure Hudson will have told Siewart that for all his good running with the ball his end product is pathetic There must a good reason why he was let go and why Middlesbrough won't even put him on the bench

Testament to this was the many empty seats in their stadium v Norwich on Sky last night.
