Think he will be starting on saturday / monday night I heard PH say we wanted our wide men playing in the opposition half so thats VLP ruled out. Right, cos he's always spent his time here behind the left back instead of attacking hasn't he 🤬

Agree 100%. VLP once literally threw himself to the ground rather than shoot after being played in on goal at Burnley.

He's never had a midfielder playing those sorts of balls through til now

In the half hour or so of pre season friendlies I’ve seen, there are still some midfielders (who I won’t name) whose first instinct is to playing the ball sideways or backwards to retain possession, rather than be more adventurous, even when more progressive attacking balls are on and don’t look particularly difficult or challenging to complete. I’ve not really noticed how we’re playing in defence as the bits I’ve seen has mostly been panicky get it cleared at all costs type stuff, so don’t know if there will remain a tendency to go side to side to try and pull teams out of shape before pushing forward (which hasn’t really worked over the last couple of years as we’ve been so tediously slow at reacting to opportunities and getting the ball moving).

Most teams will have to mess around in midfield even the big boys its football and my point was we need attacking players further up the pitch so we can play out quicker VLP best when he operates in the middle third and poor when he plays out wide in the last third.
