For everyone saying that women's football and men's football are separate sports, that viewpoint is wrong. If they were separate sports, women's football would receive the coverage that it's interest level deserves, somewhere between badminton and lacrosse. Women's football only gets the coverage it does because it is football, a sport with popularity generated by the men's game, and as said above, it is being broadcast on such a wide scale as a political tool, rather than for entertainment purposes. And that is why the fluffy, agenda driven BBC had 3 womens football stories on its football homepage today. No-one is interested Auntie. |

The point, before you jump down my throat, was the earlier debate about women playing top level. I once played against Town ladies who were the about 4th best in England in 1994....we beat them.... and we were not even Sunday league standard. I think their game has moved on hugely...still a waste of TV airtime. Women are nowhere near mens level in ANY sport (OK, 5% out in ultra-running)...that also translates in to much of life despite what you and your hand-wringing buddies think. How wonderful that I can take my little girl to football and if she chooses to she has female role models to aspire to. Im not interested in it either. Couldn;t name a single female player. But if its on I might watch a game, just because its football and I love it. Football doesn;t have to be technically good to be enjoyable. You adjust your expectations of what level of ability youre going to see and take it from there. i quite like watching a pub game on a sunday morning, ( which is a REALLY shit standard ) , but its still good to watch. I think its great more and more girls are into football. Can't see a negative about it. But a woman will never play in the pro mens levels and shouldn;t be allowed to, even if they were physically strong enough ( there'll be plenty who are technically good enough already ) . Just isn;t fair on her opponents. |
