I hesitate to post on a thread that seems to have degenerated into people shouting past each other and copying American political insults for some reason. But here goes.
I attended the women’s champions league final yesterday evening in Budapest - Barcelona v Lyon. There was around 20,000 people there and it finished 4-1 to Lyon.
Slightly disappointing match for the show-piece final. Lyon were three up in about 20 minutes, which killed it as a contest. They seemed to ease off after half-time, letting Barca have more of the ball. But the Catalans never really looked like troubling Lyon, who seemed to be in a different league.
Some British interest: Toni Duggan largely isolated up front for Barca. Fishlock (Wales) screened the Lyon defence really well and Lucy Bronze was steady at right back.
Marozsan probably the best player on the pitch in her home city, which was very much appreciated by the Hungarian fans.
To address slightly the discussion on this thread - this was my first live women’s football match. I was very very impressed by the standard overall (as you would hope for the European cup final!!) Some of the attacking play was top drawer, and Lyon’s movement and organisation was fantastic. The game did have a different flow to watching town men or the premier league, but I think that was more to do with it being French and Spanish teams than a womens match. Technical skills looked top notch across the pitch.
And finally, there were loads of kids there and notably lots of girls. My work colleague took her 7/8 year old daughter, who was apparently amazed to be going to see other girls playing football in the biggest stadium in Budapest. Surely that’s the best thing about the rise of women’s football.
Sorry about typos - on my phone.

I saw a stat where Lyon haven't lost a game in the last 3 years or something along those lines. Sort of knackers any chance of getting a competitive game!

This thread is not really about women's football - which nobody really cares about but the BBC thinks it has to cover. It's just used to beat up people thought anti equality or, worse still, anti women.
The very idea !!

I think the news said in 3 years they'd only lost a couple and with a goal difference of +914, Nikita Parris, the WSL leading scorer of all time, is supposed to be joining them next season from Man City to go with Lucy Bronze and Izzy Christiansen

As mentioned above Lyon won the Women's Champions League yesterday and it seems they are indeed from another planet as far as their skills and success are concerned: 13 straight domestic league titles 10 domestic cup wins since 2003 Champions League winners 4 times in a row, 6 in 9 years and one of the statistics quoted above concerning league defeats, I read it was 2 defeats in 9 seasons!!! (I'm quoting the Guardian here). Ada Hegerberg (Ballon d'Or winner) for Lyon got a hattrick before half time and thoroughly demoralised Barcelona it seems.

Women's football is shite. Not even women like it. Promoting women's football isn't about promoting the sport, it is politically motivated. What a man can do a woman can do! Erm, nope. We're not equal, sorry liberals. There are obviously thousands of people, even women!, who contradict your assumption here. The Ferencvaros Stadium had around 20,000 fans watching the Women's Champions League final yesterday and the Women's FA Cup Final recently staged at Wembley Stadium saw over 43,000 fans turn out to watch Man City v West Ham.

What next on BBC headlines. Alan Carr cuts his finger slicing onions? Man stands in puddle? Jobless rate in Transdniester falls 0.2%? 5 years ago there were no women's football stories on the BBC football pages. Now we have them rammed down our throat daily. Of course there is interest...there is interest in many minority sports but i resent it being forced on people. Forced? Oh, and ALL sports are minority sports. I think nothing about it on the BBC to 3 articles a day on the homepage is "forced"...yes. Minority sort is not an oxymoron...there are plenty big sports with global interest. The only womens sport that comes close is tennis.

I went to a couple of matches at Euro 2013 in Sweden....it was torpid. By all means go and play but dont stick it on TV or in my news broadcasts. As interesting as me cutting my toenails.

Forced? Oh, and ALL sports are minority sports. ?? You'll need to explain that one to me. Quite simple really. No sport is played/watched/followed by more than 50% of the population. Edit. Football is (obviously) the highest with 46% showing interest.

We're not equal, sorry liberals. Women can't compete with men at most sports, but ffs don't simply dismiss it. I guess no women would beat usain bolt at the 100m, but so what, don't have women sprinting?? I have two girls who follow town home and away and have both played for town ladies, and i'll tell you what, I've never seen a single dive like you see from salah, sterling etc every week. And they get stuck in properly. Get out of the dark ages ffs

Womens football is shite and virtually no-one is interested except the honourable players. Go play and enjoy but dont foist it on us for some positive discrimination/feminist clap-trap/quota reasons. That clear enough Ruby?

Tried watching a couple of women's games on the box including the FA cup final. If you want equality amongst all groups you've got to be honest. It is very poor.
I have absolutely no problem with the game or them providing role models for young lasses but the platform the BBC is giving it is daft.

How about an open university foundation course leading to a first class honours degree achieved while working full time in a factory on a three shift system? Followed by masters degree and chartered professional qualifications?
You need to look into getting that tiny cock of yours extended, might stop your adequacy issues.
