Or that he's taking the option to look at him before deciding whether to make the deal permanent, and that he's already decided on Williams. Based on what I've seen so far - for all that I have backed JS up to now - signing Mbenza on a permanent deal would raise serious questions about his judgement. Though one as dropping to Championship he might be really good and also have benefitted from a season in English football. Some pace if we had him, Diakhaby and Grant up front as a 3, but need them to be able to score goals and that’s what we don’t know that they will be able to do with the exception of Grant. David Beresford had pace too.... I'm more concerned by the hiding than anything else. It's not the quality of the opposition that I think hurts him so much as the intensity of the English game. Hope I'm wrong but I'm not optimistic of him making it at any level in the English game.

That's fair enough, the fact Siewert is playing him at this late stage suggests to me he's our player, all the teeth gnashing and wailing ain't going to alter that. Or that he's taking the option to look at him before deciding whether to make the deal permanent, and that he's already decided on Williams. Based on what I've seen so far - for all that I have backed JS up to now - signing Mbenza on a permanent deal would raise serious questions about his judgement. You could well be right, however if we did agree a permanent deal last summer and payment was delayed to aid Montpellier's tax situation the club are unlikely to own up to this publicy. Siewert's judgement will be hard to defend...

Presumably you want Quanner to start? He got 4 times as many assists on the premier league last season as Mbenza has managed this from a similar number of games Same number of games but the minutes played stand at Mbenza 590 minutes to Big Coll's 1292 minutes last season. Are you really going to use the subjective stat that is the assist one - to base your argument on? Really..... The best cross ever made in the world of football counts for nothing if the striker misses the chance and a skewed mishit pass is an assist if a striker finishes it! Big Col's contribution to Town's previous 2 seasons shouldn't be diminished but the overused (on here at least) mention of his 4 assists last season have taken on some sort of legendary status and IMO should not be used as a stick when comparing the efforts of Diakhaby and Mbenza this season. Absolutely not. To be clear doc big col shouldn’t be near the first XI at all The comment was made that as Mbenza had made lots of assists in France he’d do well in the championship and be a better option than VLP My point obviously clear enough or too subtle My point is by that same sort of logic (and the minutes you mention) Colin will be twice (not four times) as good as Mbenza and rip the championship to pieces given their respective records in the premier league Of course you & I know that won’t be the case ... at best he’d be a good 5th/6th option / from the bench The point I was subtly (too subtle!) trying to get to was that you can’t judge VLP just on his assists He was almost the perfect winger for the 4231 under Wagner, quick, hard working, defensively as good as a winger I’ve seen at Town, transition phase fantastic. End product let’s him down. But the first 4 parts of that were very important in how we got more out of the team than individuals - we shouldn’t just judge by the latter

You can understand it if you ask a full back to be a winger and they have trouble with that part of their game but if you were supposed to be a winger in the first place it should be the defensive side of the game that suffers if anything. Unless you weren’t a very good winger in the first place, of course.

Epsom asked the question at the Q&A and Deano confirmed he's our player next season
I suppose there's no guarantee he won't be sold in the summer, same with Diakhaby, but a front 3 with Grant looks good to me for the Championship

Grant has been fantastic. The other two completely useless Topped at anfield last week of 90 mins spent avoiding been involved in the game Our three wingers signed last summer must be right up there with the worst bit of business ever done

He was clearly under instruction to defend. That simply isn't his game. That said, he had our 2ns best pass completion stat in the game In the Championship Diakhaby and Mbenza will be allowed to focus on attacking and I think you'll be eating your words this time next year. 8 goals in Ligue 1 at 22 suggests he's more than capable. They've both had a year to settle and get used to the culture etc which is never easy at a young age I can give you a list as long as your arm of wingers that were signed by premier league clubs last summer and who have flopped. It's not just ours.

If the money for Mbenza is out of this seasons budget then I see no problem.
He has improved ten fold on his first few games for us and I personally liked how devastated he looked to get injured when we were up against it, shows he wasn't shirking it when it got tough.
Seems a nice lad too, one of the best crosses of a ball we have with a fair bit of pace too and personally I think him and Diakhaby would be a real handful in the Championship. Certainly be two of the quickest wingers with Grant in the middle and Bacuna supplying from deep, looking forward to it myself.

So part of fees for Pritchard and others will come out of next season’s budget. Offset by outgoings. Cash flow.

Doesn't sound the best planning if you ask me, considering the position we're facing now. Just hope the "bulk" has been paid and not impacting the parachute payments too heavily.

Quote: IT is an option to buy (which we have the choice of... to buy or not to buy), the obligation is the price. If we did decide to buy we would be obliged/obligated to pay E12.5M.
It doesn't matter if its got an E, $ or £ sign before the sum it is still a lot of money for a player going into the Championship, or am are out of touch with fees?

I would have been a millionaire now if I’d put a quid on Mbenza scoring today. Only if you already had £999,988 beforehand.

I've made no secret of the fact I'm not a fan of IM. But fair play to him today, he did really, really well. Even before the goal he looked like a completely different player to the one I've seen thus far.

Even before the goal he looked like a completely different player to the one I've seen thus far. He still does some really stupid things which seem to stem from complacency more than lack of talent. One of those that probably needs a rocket up his backside from the manager most days But anyone who says he isn't a footballer haven't got a clue. Will be a good player in the Championship if he's still with us

Good or bad, he is one of the few players who can get the crowd’s attention when he has that ball at his feet on the wing. You are just thinking ‘go on, take him on’. Players like that are dangerous.

If he can improve his decision making and final ball he will cause problems for some Championship defences next season.
