I've always felt Steve would be here next season if we went down. Now I am not quite so sure. I'd like him to stay. I've met him in a non-football situation and he was a lovely genuine guy who wanted to do his best and liked living in Yorkshire. He was settled and happy with life outside of football.
I do wonder if a Top tier European team might come in for him? French, Dutch, Italian leagues? He has flaws but he definitely has strengths in his game.
Those with better knowledge than me, is Steve going to be sold this summer?

If he is sold, we're getting nowhere near what we paid out for him.
Which top side is going to want him after how he's played for the majority of the last 2 years?
If he stays, I hope he is at best 3rd choice, behind Grant and 1 other. His movement in the box is terrible, and he's missed so many sitters this year.

Our second highest ever transfer I think and for me one of the worst premier league strikers to play in the league , might be a nice guy off the pitch but we didn’t spend 12 million pounds for him to be our meet and greet officer we needed a goal scorer and a player to work the front line , unfortunately Mounie came up way short.
The chances he missed and to be fair Depoitre from August to December was one of the main factors in the confidence of the team been sucked out of us , we were playing well up to him getting sent off v Brighton for dangling his leg following a woeful first touch , as per usual......... with the confidence and belief gone due to too many missed opportunities from the strikers we sank like a stone December onwards.
Very poor signing in my opinion and if we can get 8 million ( which I don’t think we would) we should cash out.

Strikers are usually more confidence players than some other positions and Mounies looks shot. I'm not convinced just a summer break is going to fix that and we need to hit the ground running from game 1 of next season. We need more of an Ashley Barnes type player next season, Mounie looks more suited to some of the foreign leagues than the Championship. If there's interest I think it's better for both Town and him that he moves on.

I've also met him and agree he's a decent bloke. Shame for all parties it's not worked out for him, but his confidence is totally shot.
We're not gonna get anywhere near our money back now, so what's there to lose giving him a go in the Championship, it has to be easier and maybe he could get his confidence back, and then hopefully the fundamental issues about his game can be worked on.

The Premier League has seen a hell of a lot of overseas flops with goalscoring records as bad as or worse than Mounie’s. Janssen and Van Wolfsvinkel in recent years to name just a couple. Forlan to name an example in previous years, especially given how many chances were laid on a plate for him. Not excusing Mounie but it’s a tough stomping ground for overseas strikers low on confidence.

Will free up wages for at least 2 more players in the Championship Nice guy or not he has failed spectacularly during his 2 years but hey ho money is in the bank at the end of the month

Which team in particular were you thinking about? PSG, Liverpool, Real... Barcelona perhaps? Possibly he will go back to France and play for a team of lesser standing - Monaco say, where he will displace Falcao (transfer fee from Atletico £54m) or Jovetic (Man city paid £25m for him at one time). Maybe Marseille where he can warm the bench while watching Ballotelli or Thauvin (current value £45m). Saying that I think we may want to sell to recoup some of his transfer fee and cut our losses, but this may be harder said than done. It also depends on whether JS sees him as integral to his system. The problem is who will want him and why would they be willing to pay him more than we do, even with relegation clause wages. His recent Wiki stats probably don't look too pleasant. If he goes I will always remember Crystal Palace, first day of last season, and his ridiculous sending off versus Brighton, that defined this season.

We didn't sign him to be a nice guy . He has ultimately been a disappointment . His wages will be high. I can't see us wanting him to stay but his stock has fallen so low it might be difficult to get shut. I really don't get this "I've met him and he seems to care " mentality. Footballers do their talking on the pitch and both him and Depoitre have been screaming "I don't give a shit " all season.

i don't get this confidence rubbish.
if it is so simple then the manager should be in his head telling him to work harder.
He's not missing chances cos he's walking around and not getting into positions where he can miss them. I can accept many of our squad simply are not good enough. What i cannot accept is those not even trying.
Work hard and your luck might change.

I can only see a lower ranking Ligue 1 side taking him and at a considerable loss to ourselves. Maybe Montpellier would take him back ?
I can't see clubs in any of the other major European top flights being interested, maybe a Greek or Turkish club, but my money would be on a move back to France for a greatly reduced fee.
Who would have thought after the Palace game that he would turn out to be such a disappointment ....?

When I said top tier I meant a team in the highest division of the various European leagues rather than meaning the steller/bigger clubs in Europe. So like you say middling team in France, Germany or Italy. There would be no point playing in the 2nd league of any other country as the championship is the highest standard of them.

It shouldn't save him from criticism or declaring he has been a disappointment, but it should be considered in the tone of it. It should also be considered if Jan has any lingering thoughts he could fit in his plans (I suspect he doesn't) if we can't get a reasonable fee for him.

TBF he did well last season. If you take into consideration his age and lack of experience in top flight football. Last season was a big step up for him. I think he coped with it as well as you could hope without being greedy.
This season he has been fucking shit.

Did alright last year but has suffered, like most of the team, this season

JS must have some faith in him as has played him in a good percentage of his games unlike LDP who was sidelined from day one. To sell him we need someone to show an interest in him, and frankly who would on this seasons performance. We might have an expensive paperweight on the books for another two years!

If he wants to be here and shows a positive attitude then he'll be an asset in the Championship. There's a good chance he'll be worth a lot more in 12 months than he is now. I hope!

Mounie's a target man and would be better suited to a two up front system. We've rarely played that in the last two years and if our intention is to continue with one up front, then we might as well move him on (if we can)

Work hard and your luck might change. we hit a bad patch which became over half a seasons worth of 'bad patches'.. time was then for everyone to work their arses off and to force something in games when we were poor technically.. We played games where the striker was marooned but thats the time to chase and bully everything and everyone..He failed badly.. Yes your luck can change but some of our very bad days could have been made better had everyone been reading from the same page on the field.. Yes we went very risk averse but as so many games were lost by a goal the extra effort might have been worthwhile in some of them?

Mounie wins a lot of long balls pumped up to him, because he has time to see where the ball is going and can then move towards it and challenge.
In the box he tries to do the same, but with so much less time he rarely gets anywhere near it.
Unless someone shows him how to make runs in the box, you'd have thought a pre-requisite for any striker, it's pointless playing him.

Yep. Overboard with the two of 'em on a big butt of sack, as Shakespeare and Simon Armitage would have said. For me, too, they can both sling their hooks far away over the sea! Sobhi for obvious reasons, and Mounié - well, he just couldn't "put his buit thru it" (said in French accent) :-)
