I haven't posted for a good few weeks but recent events have got me out of hibernation, whether that's of any consequence is entirely debatable. I could have posted this in the new kit or the goodwill thread as I think there is a bigger picture that our decision makers have either misjudged or are completely oblivious of. Hopefully people recognise that I try and present a balanced and realistic view of most things, I make this point as I am concerned at where we are and the direction of travel. We had 2 years of fantastic success, better than we could have hoped for. We have then endured a year where much of that good work seemed to unravel. During this period we have seen the departure of the two men who were the catalysts of this unexpected period. We enter a new era with a new chairman who although has credibility due to his support, but has no track record of success, and a head coach who still has much to prove (I am more than prepared to give him.a chance to prove his worth). We have returned to a competitive league but in reality with no clear expectation of what to expect from the team. In reality the opportunity that 2 seasons in the Premier League has offered appears to have been missed, although Siewert may prove himself to be as successful as DW. The truth is that since May 17 we have worked hard, been enthusiastic and ridden the of success but with a flimsy long term strategy. I could be argued that we should have a coherent plan to try and return to the Premier League, from where I stand we have good people working hard but not a solid underpinning strategy. We approach a season that should really be about trying to maintain a credible challenge in the Championship but we are embroiled in a PR storm that looks increasingly ill thought through at best and unbelievably crass at worst. I don't have a problem with having a laugh and laughing at ourselves at all but we seem to have been content to let Paddy Power shape an agenda that makes us look like a tin pot outfit in desperate need of publicity and cash. Not to mention an utter laughing stock in terms of a ridiculous kit design (I know it's likely to be a prank) which has diminished our name. The powers that be seem to have taken the black humour in the stands as being carte Blanche for the club being held up for ridicule. There's a world of difference from fans singing about going to Luton Town away and having the piss taken by every other fan in England. Whoever sanctioned this better have a good recovery strategy. Last season the fans were the only thing that maintained a wholly positive outlook and won the club recognition off the pitch when there was none on it. I additionally think that this attitude that we are a little dog has long worn thin. It certainly helped in our promotion season but it over looks the fact we do have a proud history and we should reasonably aspire to be a top 35 club in England. We don't have a sense of entitlement, like some, but we are not a club without pedigree or heart. We certainly shouldn't be resorting to pitiful PR campaigns to keep our name in the forefront of the wider footballing consciousness. We won many plaudits for the way the club was run, our support, our place and engagement in the community. Selling our soul to the PR machine of a bookmaker (I would add I have no issue with gambling or bookmakers personally but recognise the challenge that some people experience with gambling) is hardly in keeping with everything we got credit for in recent years. Our focus should be on trying to build the club and have a credible strategy for using the last 3 years to generate more success on the pitch. There is a new regime in charge. Phil H does not have the credit in the bank DH had. Sean Jarvis has been unfairly criticised in the past but I really don't think this is his finest hour. A few poor results at the start of the season is likely to see the fans lose patience and more widely be critical of decisions taken. It also places unfair and unnecessary pressure on Siewert and the players. Overall I hope this is well thought through and there is a credible exit which allows us to focus on matters on the pitch. If there isn't our new leadership team have just provided people with ammunition to be used against them. If that is the case you have to say it looks a little dim to say the least. UTT

Overreaction of the year? Is it? Which bit of that isn;t the case? Its certainly dragged on. I expected them to get half a day out of the stunt then do a genuine reveal. Maybe a full day at most. Got a feeling it will be 4 in the end. Its certainly divisive. Theres people arguing on here, insulting each other, Shop staff getting it in the neck, Jarvis shutting down his twitter account. Its certainly a national embarrassment- ie we are being ridiculed all over the country. WE aren't. You may feel ridiculed or you may feel the Club is being ridiculed, but the sensible amongst us don't see it that way. Of course fans who personally know a Town fan will give it a go, but that's all part and parcel of football. That's what football rivalry does and that's ok.

Just let it play out.... We all know that this story has far from run its course, so why get so worked up in the middle of it. The longer that our 'title sponsor' is Paddypower, the more our fanbase may just have to lighten up a little bit in terms of PR and marketing. It is clearly not everyone's cup of tea but in the grand scheme it is undoubtably getting us a bigger SM profile.

Well it divides the overreactors from the calm, certainly. National embarrassment? Just because YOU can't bat back a Newcastle fan that phones you up, and the Daily Mail publishes about it doesn't make that true. My view. If that shirt did happen to be our shirt going into the new season, then I wouldn't care one shiny shite as long as we were playing well in it. It's blue and white stripes with a sponsor. That is all. I'm minded of a great 70s film with some comments on here. To paraphrase:- We don't mind the Japs and the Chinks, but we don't want the Irish.

If it’s true then they really have far more serious issues they need to address. Is it the club that have serious issues to address or the irate moaners who have to have a long hard look at themselves for getting upset and berating the shop floor staff over a piece of printed material! I was definitely not referring to the club!

Why did we feel the need to do this though? I liked that we went under the radar. Surprising teams and pundits and what not. This goes against the underdog mentality we had in the promotion season and in the first year of the prem. We don’t need ‘publicity’, and we certainly don’t need to pull ridiculous stunts like this. Let’s hope we learn our lesson from this fiasco.

I know that sad moaning people have been giving the retail staff in the shops a load of stick and hassle on the phone and face to face. Some people need to realise it’s not the shop staff who should be copping for their ire and anger; what have they got to do with it. They just sell you the stuff and stick it in a carrier bag! None of this so called stick and hassle has actually happened. We’ve released a kit, it’s a bit out there for some people’s tastes as I’m sure the sales figures will tell, but don’t make up that Town fans are sad enough to complain to a shop that a kit they can’t yet buy is rubbish.

And actually it’s a pretty decent kit IMO having watched the highlights from Rochdale. Not something I’d buy or wear and looks an abomination close up, but pretty inoffensive and distinctive at the same time on the pitch,

Whilst I’m overall supportive of the stunt (assuming it is!) I get it’s better for Pp than us but ultimately they’ve secured that via a higher sponsorship payment than anyone else would have. Anyone saying we don’t get anything out of it read that but about paying a higher £ again I also put some value on publicity - from website hits, wider media interest, business’s taking note we’ve a sense of humour who may not have otherwise done so etc etc. Others may not, I get that. But....I do think we need to draw the line and reveal the real shirt this side of the weekend - I’d hoped we’d do that at Rochdale The joke has been and gone now - timing key. Leave it too long (we have already imo) and we look daft Draw the line, auction these shirts off for charity and reveal the real shirt / logo. Sash aside I think the rest of that shirt looks great - let’s get it on show properly! The real shirt was revealed at Rochdale. Watch this from over a month ago... It’s not a prank, it’s the kit.

In a few years time even the most gullible folk will look back and see this for what it is - A small club in the UK, pulling off one of the biggest and best PR ruse's the footballing world ever saw.
2 fingers up to the establishment, (which is corrupt as fuck by the way). I absolutely love it.

You have to give great credit to PP's marketing team which has long been recognised as leader in the industry, certainly for the market they cater for. Even the timing of this would have been carefully chosen to be well after England Ladies (may have won the W Cup) and England cricket did indeed win their World Cup.. and pitched just before the Open and after Wimbledon too.. a 2 day window of hardly anything fresh to talk about in the sporting world and this suddenly makes all the media channels. Fair play to them and i dont wosh to be misunderstood but I hope Town have the nous to know where the line can be drawn.. someone suggested elsewhere that the real shirt may not have a sponsor on it at all or perhaps a charity using the PP money.. and that itself would be typically clever, generating good publicity as well as giving money to a cause and fair play if that happens.I have no beef with advertising gambling either, couldnt care less..my point in a previous post was that at a time when there is a strong clamping down on betting/football relations (yes i know Skybet football league etc) but in general.. awareness courses for academies etc going on.. i mean at a time like this it was a shrewd move from PP to make a splash in football having never previously been directly invloved. Anyway good luck to Town for a succesful season that is what matter.

It’s now as tedious as the ‘Martin from Wakefield’ nonsense.
I just hope there’s a grand finale in the pipeline for when the real kit is revealed. If it’s a standard Paddy Power across the chest it will probably be spun in the media as ‘rapid redesign after FA intervention’.
Ideally (as above) there will be a charitable gesture involved. Everyone knows who sponsors us now, go down the New Order route of nothing on the product relating in any way to the content.
‘GambleAware’ in green letters and the PP font or similar.

Was in a meeting in L**ds yesterday with plenty of their fans in attendance. When it came up after about 2 nanoseconds of conversation I laughed and said it’s brilliant. You can only be humiliated if you take a seriously pissed off view. I won the meeting “Bantz” - if I had been all defensive and upset they would have won even though the final joke would still have been on them.
Tory Mp’s and Mail can #*£& right off! Why don’t they complain about the SKYBET championship or the wall of betting adds in every advert in breaks in every sports broadcast which I personally feel is disgraceful!
