Was Schindler missing through injury yesterday or is something afoot? If we keep everyone once Billing and Jorgensen leave, we should do okay. Nervous few weeks until the window shuts ... he was shown on Twitter as special guest in the White rose club

Yep, we have some good options. Perhaps Reece Brown in for O'Brien. Mooy for Hogg. Someone said on another thread that O’Brien looks like Hogg with a better passing range and I think that is a good assessment. I would be playing him, he looks like the best academy product for a long while.

They had a 41 year old playing in defence and nobody noticed...that was a bad sign for me. I watched 5 mins of Leeds v Cagliari as a live streamed popped up on my Youtube and they looked way above us 🤷♂️☹️ Funny that because the match report I've just read basically said Cagliari were the better side first half & took a deserved lead. At half-time they made loads of changes & Leeds looked better in possession but fragile at the back scored a penalty but created very little. By the end of the game Cagliari had changed their entire team. The Leeds fans commenting say they were ok in possession but created little & improvements needed. Was it a bad stream you were watching or are you talking shit? Edit; You also failed to mention that Cagliari played with four 33 year olds, a 32 year old & a 37 year old keeper. Montpellier missed out on Europe by 2 points, Cagliari finished in the bottom 6.

There will always be a team like that, doesn't need to affect us. That said, Leeds were good last season but couldn't handle teams that took it to them with pace. Which is precisely what we should be.

Wasnt sure what to expect today but was suprised how poor Montpellier were - league 2 at best. We were slow pedestian at time with norwal flair - going through the motions really I only watched about 45 mins in total but I thought they looked a lot better than us especially first half so I’m not sure what that says about us?

The lad who came on for Hoggy at Rochdale (High ?) looked like we'd cloned Hoggy but added better ball control and passing.

Heard that Burnley are interested in Hoggy. No smoke without fire....He has been linked with moves all summer, whilst others haven't, I could see some movement this week.

Costa only managed 5 goals with 6 assists in a far better Wolves team when the got promoted. They're expecting White to be better than Jansson, Kiko to improve, Klich to match or improve on what was his best ever season, a 35 year old to get into double figures for goals & assists again, if they don't keep Phillips can they replace him with similar quality? Can they go a full season without burning out & not having the advantage of half a season spying on the opposition? Also, can Bielsa do what he's failed to do at every other European club he's coached, improve them in the second season & actually win something? It's going to be alot tougher for them next season. If they manage promotion then fair play but being the bookies pre-season favourite doesn't mean much, just look at the favourites for last season.

Mbenza was distraught when he came off at Chelsea with a pulled calf. That wasn't the actions of a sick note. It was just bad luck Anyway, they were both fit for first half of the season, Wagner just chose not to play them As i said time will tell fella............lets see if either can play sat...tues...sat in a competitive physical league. They won’t have to with 9 forward options

Quote in paper today from Liam Cooper saying he’s knackered after the multiple training sessions Bielsa has put them through. Looks like he’s not learnt from last season.

Diakhaby is lightning fast, had skill and a strong left foot. Decent shot. Scored more than once in preseason. Young lad still. Some concern of course right foot not been used and his legs look like pipe cleaners. So you can either assume he will be a threat, is currently in our top 3 wide widemen options, adds balance to side and might develop into a cracking player. Or he's got to prove his worth before any grudging appreciation is made. Depends on your outlook. Does he have a decent shot though? I seem to remember on his highlights reel when he signed most of his goals seemed to be mis hit soft efforts that somehow managed to go through keepers legs. I would have him training half hour every day smashing the ball at the goal - if he improves that then we could be in for some fun.

You know what, in amongst all this optimism for the coming season, which, imo, is unwarranted, there are a lot of things still coming through that back up what I've thought all along. Diakhaby no end product, Bacuna giving the ball away,O'Brien clumsy tackler, Elphick legs gone, Koroma out of his depth, Quaner and VLP no end product, Mooy looking a shadow, Kachunga a shadow, Seiwert the jury's out still. Our only saving grace is our defence will probably keep us out if trouble.

We are at minimum on the same level as L**ds. Good to hear, as I say I only saw 5 minutes so my comment should be read in that context, but it was a very impressive 5 minutes. (I get all sorts of stuff in my youtube “recommended” feed, I’ve spent the last few nights watching someone’s vlogs on doing the Appalachian Trail !)

Our only saving grace is our defence will probably keep us out if trouble. Well if our defence is our saving grace even with Elphicks legs, then that’s good. And if the lack of end product from Quaner and VLP continues to result in goals like v Doncaster, then that’s the kind of lack of end product I like. Kachunga ghosting in for a headed goal at Rochdale is a great shadow to play with, and the kind of range threaded balls that Bacuna gave to Grant to score against Montpellier more outweighs the times when those fine margins result in a loss of possession. Diakhaby hopefully will continue with the lack of end product that has him more or less single handledly beating Hamburger. O’Brien, I haven’t really seen him yet to judge, although I have only seen him win tackles and retain possession, without giving away fouls. Talking of judges, what charge is Siewert up on, specifically?

Hogg has been a good player for us but if he was to go it wouldn't bother me as I think in bacuna and obrien we have players who can step up where as if Mooy was to go I think the void would be too big for the current crop to fill. If billings going for 15m how much realistically is hogg worth.

I've not seen any pre-season games or even highlights, they ultimately mean very little in how the season will pan out (unless you've spent £250m on a new team & are winning all your friendly games 7-0).
This season I'm hoping will be OK, but it could also be a season of adjustment for us. Confidence was shot to shit last season, so if they can get through the psychological barriers that's created we could do OK. In some respects we're better off with DW having left when he did & also the fact that our relegation was sealed early as the new Mgr has at least had a third of a season to work out how to approach this season. That's tempered by the fact that our promotion season came largely out of the blue, whereas this season we'll be expected to do better.
But a great season awaits and looking forward to it...

Can you not even take optimism in the fact that a team whose confidence was shot to shreds has now gone unbeaten in around 10 games in all competitions? I would say we have set ourselves up very nicely for the new season and against Montpellier we didnt even start with our best 11!
