I didn't watch the game but the hype around Diakhaby continues to surprise me. He's very good at showing flashes of something but there's no consistency or end product. Reminds me a lot of Theo Walcott, who also looked permanently scared of his own shadow. He ended up spending 10 years at Arsenal, which most fans would have said was 8 too many. I hope I'm proved wrong but the Examiner isn't helping, always giving him good reviews for bog standard or even poor performances, it just gets peoples expectations up for nothing. VLP, Pritchard and Mbenza will be the real breadwinners on our wings this year I reckon. What hype the guy is having a decent pre-season we need to see how he gets on when the serious stuff starts i think he will share the load with Mbenza and Pritchard.

Diakhaby is a far better winger than VLP. A season in the Championship will show that Diakhaby has to play first........like mbenza he appears a bit soft to me, and was a regular sick note last season. Does he have the mental aptitude to do it twice a week home and away like vlp did when we went up. Vlp's stats aint the best, but he was integral to us in our promotion success. If his end product matched his skills then he wouldnt be with us now, but hes underrated by many imho. I'm not sure where the soft tag comes from. They're just like most wingers, there aren't many who go flying in to tackles. As for being a sick note, I'm not sure you can do much about a pulled hamstring or pulled calf. Or did you think they should have played through those injuries?

Both were injured more than fit.......hamstring, calf, knee, buttock i dont really care to be honest. The fact is that neither stayed fit for any lengthy period last year....maybe this season will be different. Time will tell.

That wasn't the actions of a sick note. It was just bad luck Anyway, they were both fit for first half of the season, Wagner just chose not to play them

I just can't see that anyone can think of them as being anything other than totally disappointing.. so far.. they may both rip up this division and it would be brilliant if they did. But I'm not holding my breath to be honest. Mbenza is the most likely imo .

Mbenza’s cross at home for Moonié’s header was it Bourney or Brighton? That showed vision and craft..if there’s a lot more of that in there then we could be a threat this season. Diakhaby looks possibly too raw for me and I agree with others too many injuries. Need to be tougher for the twice weekly grind of the championship.

I can't seem to find the article on the Examiner now but the reviews made it sound like he was the best player on the pitch. I was in Croatia at the time but managed to watch most of the game and apart from being in the right place at the right time he was pretty much useless. I got panned for stating that opinion on the forum at the time. Just my view on him, if I were a betting man I'd say he'd continue to flatter to deceive but won't come good in the way we all hope he will. Walcott Mk II.

Without wanting to write Diakhaby off so early into his Huddersfield career I do tend to agree that from what I've seen, his end product is nowhere near good enough to be a threat even at this level.

Someone please tell me Mooy looked back to his old self. The bald Xavi. He did. Very impressed. Head and shoulders (he doesn’t need it) above the midfield of both sides. I still believe he’s going, but will be absolutely delighted to be proved wrong. I didn’t bother with the full game but he looked very laboured still to me. Seemed to be hints of “oh, he knows what hes doing” but far too much stuff that smacked of him not really being totally focussed or sharp, and continued first thought of going backwards when a more progressive option was available. For me he needs to step it up a level.

Wasnt sure what to expect today but was suprised how poor Montpellier were - league 2 at best. We were slow pedestian at time with norwal flair - going through the motions really They had a 41 year old playing in defence and nobody noticed...that was a bad sign for me. I watched 5 mins of Leeds v Cagliari as a live streamed popped up on my Youtube and they looked way above us 🤷♂️☹️

Clearly, he reads the game exceptionally well. Had Grant in his pocket for the majority. Having said that, we did get in behind them a few times. Rare to see a 40yr old outfield player, especially at a top flight club in a decent league. He is clearly an anomaly so wouldn't read too much into his age.

We are at minimum on the same level as L**ds.

Diakhaby is lightning fast, had skill and a strong left foot. Decent shot. Scored more than once in preseason. Young lad still.
Some concern of course right foot not been used and his legs look like pipe cleaners.
So you can either assume he will be a threat, is currently in our top 3 wide widemen options, adds balance to side and might develop into a cracking player. Or he's got to prove his worth before any grudging appreciation is made. Depends on your outlook.

As far as it goes with Leeds being ahead of us, was that with their entire squad?
Jan has mixed his teams and we done ok with everyone. 10 games unbeaten now.
Agree we looked weaker in first half than 2nd yesterday. However, more yo come from us. Leeds faded / bottled it by running out of steam. Again. I like how Jan involves fringe players.
Fingers crossed for a good start to the season and see where it takes us.

Grabara in for Schofield Schindler in for Flo. Move Kongolo to left back and Herbie to right back Mooy in for O'Brien (who did play well) Mbenza in for Koroma And that's a much stronger side that will cause any team in this division problems

Yep, we have some good options.
Perhaps Reece Brown in for O'Brien. Mooy for Hogg.

Was Schindler missing through injury yesterday or is something afoot? If we keep everyone once Billing and Jorgensen leave, we should do okay. Nervous few weeks until the window shuts ...

I'll be honest. If I was Hogg's agent I'd be telling him I think he needs a new challenge

The midfield looked better once Hogg went off yesterday.
That said I wouldn’t want to lose him.

At half-time they made loads of changes & Leeds looked better in possession but fragile at the back scored a penalty but created very little. By the end of the game Cagliari had changed their entire team. The Leeds fans commenting say they were ok in possession but created little & improvements needed. Was it a bad stream you were watching or are you talking shit?

So much awareness that to make a statement about his age he has totally overlooked that the 41 year old played 36 games, only missed 2 through injury and the 41 year old was instrumental in Montpellier keeping 11 clean sheets in his 36 appearances. All in a top European league 🤦♂️
