Mbenza has something and hopefully will show it on a regular basis. Diakhaby on the other hand I'm not so sure about but will be glad to be proved wrong. The pair of them could cause havoc this season

He was our best player today first half and only threat. Some lovely bits of skill, great pace to get in behind and his final ball let him down. He seems to be judged on different criteria to everyone else, perhaps because of the transfer fee. I could understand it early doors last season when he looked frightened of his own shadow and couldn't control the ball but you can see his confidence is up now and full backs will hate to play against him.

So Elphick's legs have gone and Koroma looks out of his depth. Shine a light. On today's evidence, for me, yeah. I like Elphick but I bet he'd be the first to say he's not as quick as he was 3 or 4 years ago. As for Koroma, he shows promise but it is a big step up & he made the wrong decision too often & gave the ball away too much. Were you there?

I was hoping to go but my mate blobbed off as it was wanging it down.

I hope he does because it means town do well from it. It's all about opinions. I went with 4 others today and we all had varying opinions on most of the players. I judge players on how they perform and overall contributions not price that's not in a players control.

The back heel, turn and leave the defender for dead in the build up to Flo's chance was just unreal. Maybe me and Uncle Paddy were right about the lad/lads all along 🤔🤣 Don't forget me, I've been backing these two all along. I'll be gloating plenty come the end of the season when they've proved the doubters wrong. Although it'll take 50 goals and 30 assists each for some to ever like them Id settle for 10 goals and assists between them - and they bloody should do given they cost us more than 15m between em!!!! I do however hope you are gloating........cos that will mean town are successful. I aint holding my breath though................dont think diakhaby has played consecutive games for us, never mind sat..tues...sat...wed every month for a 46 game season, and mbenza aint had back to back good displays that ive seen either. Happy to order the whole humble pie if wrong though!

He was far better than Grant today who I thought had a bit of a stinker, yet he popped up with a great goal and it helps to forget everything else. Diakhaby maybe should have done better with the chance that was saved but atleast he was in that position which is more than can be said of our wide players in most games over the last 24 months

I thought Bacuna had a good game today. That ball through to Grant was amazing and I hope to see a lot more like them this season.

The point I'm making is that Grant was poor yet it wasn't mentioned. Diakhaby played well first half (drifted out of it second) yet some are saying he was poor That is what I mean by different standards that players are judged against

I hope I'm wrong & I'm sure he'll do plenty of good things (Elphick), I can also totally see why we bought him but today he committed one shocking tackle, where he arrived slightly late, & on a couple of occasions his marker turned & lost him easily - however their No 10 was quick & skillful, hopefully not your average Championship striker. We will be vulnerable to pace through the middle with him & Schindler.

BTW I don't think diakhaby was poor today I just don't think he has it in him for a championship slog. As said hope he proves me wrong

I love the kid but I thought he looked a bit nonchalant today, especially first half when he gave the ball away/knocked it out of play at will. He was lucky with some of his challenges too but got much better later on

Would Diakhaby and Mbenza have cost as much if they'd also come from some nondescript south London team rather than 2 of the bigger Ligue 1 teams 🤔

On a separate note At full time there were loads of kids waiting for autographs High 5s etc the players except for kachunga just ignored the kids and went down the tunnel. He stayed having selfies signing stuff etc. Bit of a disgrace could understand if we'd just lost a league game but was a friendly the kids came to support in shit weather. Family club🤔 **edited to be more coherent 👌**

I didn't watch the game but the hype around Diakhaby continues to surprise me. He's very good at showing flashes of something but there's no consistency or end product. Reminds me a lot of Theo Walcott, who also looked permanently scared of his own shadow. He ended up spending 10 years at Arsenal, which most fans would have said was 8 too many.
I hope I'm proved wrong but the Examiner isn't helping, always giving him good reviews for bog standard or even poor performances, it just gets peoples expectations up for nothing.
VLP, Pritchard and Mbenza will be the real breadwinners on our wings this year I reckon.

I thought Bockhorn & Bacuna were poor first half but both looked like different players second half. Diakhaby looked lively, Mooy was quality when he came on, Mbenza played well when he came on aswell. O'Brien looks a talent & Grant will score plenty of goals like that in the championship. All in all a good work out against solid opposition. A week to fine tune things on the training ground now.
Like I said on another thread earlier in the week, results aren't usually important in pre-season but breaking that losing mentality from last season was key. We're currently 10 games unbeaten going into the new season against the likes of Man U, Southampton, Wolves, Fürth, Hamburg & Montpellier. I have no doubt these games will have given the players a huge boost aswell as comfortable wins against 4 league 1 teams.
It's good to see the players with a smile on their faces & enjoying their football again. Let's hope they can go into the season with some new found confidence & get off to a good start.
Bring on Derby!

I enjoyed seeing a bit of flair; flicks, tricks and passes from Mooy, Bacuna, Mbenza etc. It breeds confidence and shows they’re enjoying themselves again.

A season in the Championship will show that Diakhaby has to play first........like mbenza he appears a bit soft to me, and was a regular sick note last season. Does he have the mental aptitude to do it twice a week home and away like vlp did when we went up. Vlp's stats aint the best, but he was integral to us in our promotion success. If his end product matched his skills then he wouldnt be with us now, but hes underrated by many imho.
