Wouldn’t surprise me if we went in for the Barnsley manager (Stendel) if Siewert eventually gets the chop. On a separate note I can see the Stoke manager Jones getting the sack sooner or later. Another who seems out of his depth in this league and coincidentally someone we were thought to be previously interested in. I was just about to post that. Stendel would be my choice.

I think we should wait until chaloba and Campbell are playing and see how we look then. We obviously lack height up front and some guile in the middle.

I think the chairman will have a couple of ideas on how to approach the future. He will be very keen to keep JS simply because he now has a new team around him in Colin Bell and David Webb, and he cannot get rid of the set up after Bell has been 2 weeks in the job. Don't forget, JS goes and CB also goes. He'll be seeing how this pans out, and if Town are mid-table by Christmas, he stays. The other scenario is that we go on a nightmare run in this Championship season and we are near the bottom after 10 games and don't have a recognisable style of playing. JS must have presented his playing style to the selection committee before he got the job, so they must have been happy with it, but at the moment he doesn't seem to be getting his ideas across to the players, or the players are so short of confidence that they cannot implement it. In this case JS is on very thin ice and it is obviously not working for him or his staff, therefore they will need to be replaced if we are to maintain our status in the Championship. And to reiterate what I said yesterday, it does no harm to start doing your research on a new head coach now. Then there is the fan problem. Plenty are horrified at the situation at the moment, evidenced by the reaction on Town's favourite forum. The problem is that the ones who are horrified are the same who were horrified that JS was chosen in the first place, so I think PH needs to take this into account. While the usual mob were lambasting the QPR performance, a number were saying that that was a massive overreaction, and we played quite well in parts of the first half with a structure. He will have seen it for himself, so I'd hope that he can talk candidly with JS about the more concerning aspects of the game. What I don't want him to do is to try and appease the fans so that we enter into a sacking/hiring cycle, taking the next taxi off the rank, only to repeat 12 months later. Once people get used to the fact that at the moment we are back to being a competitive Championship club, things may calm down. The problem is the fans have become accustomed to a situation where all the stars were aligned and the team massively over performed. Once fans understand that that situation was quite exceptional, only then can we move forward in a sustainable manner and have another crack at the PL.

Wagner's teams didn't play Keegan-style exciting football, but they did play constructive, passing football with a clear strategy that the players obviously bought into. I found it entertaining to watch alot of the time, even though we didn't score loads of goals. It was far better than the 'hoof it and hope' stuff I've watched during the majority of my time as a Town fan. Initially it was a novelty just watching a Town team that was able to consistently put three passes together! Whatever you think of Wagner's style, we all knew what to expect, and the players - in the main - were able to deliver results. Well, until the financial inequality of the Premier League caught up with us. With Wagner there was a clear playing style, an obvious plan - and although it wasn't 'exciting', it was considerably better to watch than the football we had become accustomed to watching before his arrival. I always looked at it as quite a pragmatic approach. We won;t score many, but we won;t concede many either. Not particularly exciting football but the league table was exciting and thats what really mattered. I find it weird that the club revelled during the Wagner years about having an 'identity'... a way of playing that was 'our way' and it proved very successful. When we changed managers we were told we had purposely gone out and brought in a manager who would continue with that identity. Yet here we are a few months later playing a completely different system? 433 is it? Its very strange. Siewert has a totally different way of playing to Wagner. Different formation, different style, different everything really. A Siewert team bears little resemblance to a Wagner one.

Why are you such a smart arse? Didn’t go to the game I see but don’t let that stop you from making barbed comments and giving everyone the benefit of your vast knowledge. "Didn't go to the game I see " How exactly do you see ? If every pumped up self importantist (of which you are ONE) started a thread about Siewert we would have 100 threads about him .. do you not get that ? Or are you too busy trying to find me at the match ? These are the words of a man with the most postings on this forum, why would I bother looking for you at QPR as I know that you won’t be there.

Colin Bell has a wealth of coaching, tactics, organisational and player management experience, and has dealt with players at all levels getting them playing well above their supposed capabilities. My instincts when he was signed from The Republic of Ireland role was that he would likely be the next head coach if and when Jan.S gets canned...The appointment of David Webb only reinforced the thought, as the experience levels seem a better fit. I absolutely believe that if P.H had the so called full confidence in Jan...More investment in the squad would have happened . Cheaper low risk potential, or low fee/free transfers in suggests trust issues. Why spend significant sums for a Manager you have grown to have no faith in. They had publicly backed him , so must give maybe 10 games to not lose face totally, and I hope I am wrong , and we improve massively an quickly, but I can't ignore my own business/people management history, and my instinct that the late appointment of Webb after deadline day was to fireproof him for when Jan goes, and that January sees some significant squad investment with a new trusted capable Manager/ Head Coach...… Just an opinion , and though it's painful right now I never have or will slag my club off....Not even when second bottom of the old 4th Division :-) Irrespective of who a new manager maybe, I personally have never understood this "10 game" rule and then get rid if it isn't working. If a team is docked 12pts before a ball is kicked, it is deemed as dead and buried. Why wait for a potential 30 pts to be lost before you believe the "bounce effect" will change or improve a season. If a manager isn't up to the job before a ball is kicked then suck it up and admit to your mistakes and get rid. Couldn't agree with you more. There was plenty of time to get to know Jan, his qualities and shortcomings whilst waiting to go down. Was simply speculating that because they had publicly backed him more than once, they would save face and give maybe 10 games. The decision seems there to be made I feel , and have always been the eternal optimist...Just shocked at the disarray on the pitch after so much supposed prep.

Was never sure that Jan was the right appointment- can't think of many 36 year old successful managers at top level football who have no good previous track record. While he inherited a difficult situation, what was his role in the disgraces incident last Xmas?; why did his original no 2 leave so quickly?; why couldn't he persuade Smith to stay?and are the players supportive of him- doesn't seem so. If this is the case, we need someone else as respect once lost is rarely regained. The difficulty is when- end of the month giving new guy some time. over the break; Xmas? Or only if we look like danger of relegation? Or only when we have a nailed on good replacement?
Choosing the next manager who will spend what money we have is PH's biggest decision. Worth paying for the best we can get, and waiting for the right one. It's a false economy to go cheap with inexperienced people.

I'm one that thought JS signing maybe another master stroke but it's turning us into looking like strokes. I'm alarmed that after 6 months with the same nucleus of players we look derived of idea identity, direction etc. Wagner came in with players of far less calibre and immediately gave us an identity a pattern of play at that time most fans were happy results poor on the whole but you could see something that would catapult us to a good entertaining mid championship team as it were a miracle happened. Unfortunately with Jan I just don't see or hear anything that's going to improve.

Its very strange. Siewert has a totally different way of playing to Wagner. Different formation, different style, different everything really. A Siewert team bears little resemblance to a Wagner one. Yeah, we made a really big deal about implementing a specific style of play and formation from the first team down the age groups then threw it out the first chance we got for someone who seems wedded to a completely different approach. It reminds me a bit of when Robins was here and the club made some positive noises about wanting to play better football then at the first sign of trouble we went and appointed Chris Powell. We rarely seem to have the courage of our convictions, unfortunately.

The main problem here, and the reason why everybody is jumping on JS back after only 2 games is that he’s had since January (we knew we were down realistically) to coach the players into the system he favours. Yet we look like he’s just come in, the players play far too far apart from each other to be able to get us up the field and we end up humping long balls as a consequence.
With the players we have we should be one of the better teams at this level and looking to dominate the opposition. Yet somehow we’re constantly on the back foot and struggle to get out of our own half for long periods. The buck has to stop with Jan, and unfortunately I cannot see how he’s going to turn it around given how long he’s had already to get the players playing his system.
Unfortunately PH has layed out his cards at the q&a and told us he likes to be patient with his managers and give them time so it looks like we’ll have to put up with this for a while longer.

This was from dean when Sievert was appointed--
"“My remit to David Wagner was to give Huddersfield Town an identity and over the last three-and-a-half years, we’ve established just that. We’ve now setup our Club to play in a certain way, from the Academy through to the First Team.
“When David let us know he intended to step aside at the end of the season, we quickly moved to meet Jan; his name was still at the top of our list of possible successors. There was an immediate connection; you could see why he was so highly thought-of. He is articulate, passionate and he has a huge ambition to be a success.
“Many of his core philosophies and beliefs about how he wants his teams to play match our own. He likes high-effort, high-intensity, high-pressing football that is good to watch.
“However, it is again too lazy to suggest that there will be no change here. He also made it very clear that he has his own beliefs and level of detail that will be a change for this Club.
“That’s exactly what I wanted to hear; that Jan feels he can build on what has been achieved here and add to it. We’re not ripping up what we’ve built here; we’re trying to add to it and take it to the next level."
So whilst he says hes his own man and will do it his way etc, there clearly was the intention that what Wagner had put in place.. the formation, style and systems of play would pretty much carry on. Has there been a break down in communication somewhere? Did one side of the agreement not make their intentions clear enough? Because what we're seeing so far has no correlation with the bits in bold that DH was saying.
All a bit confusing.
And I have a certain sympathy with Sievert too. He obviously knew we'd be getting relegated when he took the job , but was he told that he would be losing his best players , not just the ones hed fall out with, and would be given the budget of a lower end League 1 club to replace them all with? He , like all of us, must have assumed hed have a bit more in his armoury than that!
Worst thing though, is that whilst youre trying to find reasons to be optimistic, there is absolutely nothing in this managers record, either here or before that you can point to and say ' well he did it there' ,... he did this, or he did that. There is nothing I can see to pin your hopes on that he can be a success. Its basically just relying on blind faith based on nothing.
At the same time the reasons to NOT be optimistic are ramping up.

Yup .. I wrote pretty much the same yesterday Slapps. Where is the shred of positivity either currently or in his history to justify the fans (and the players ) having any faith in him . 're the playing style we are so open it's unbelievable . When we were getting thraped by the big six then it's understandable but when two mid to lower championship teams on less budget than us are doing it the sirens are starting to wail.

I can see 2 defeats this week which should have Jan out the door next w/e, give Hudson the 3 games before Int. break & see how he does, then the board have 2 weeks to decide what to do.....seems to me the only logical solution at the moment! UTT

UTT Pretty much agree with this. Said on another thread that the two games this week should define if he stays or not. If he’s going, would prefer someone in place at the start of the international break to coach them into the new style of play in readiness for the Massive. Think Wagner came in on an international break and his first game was Wednesday away. We lost but everyone could see what he’d been doing in the previous few weeks.

This is a big problem for me, its clear that he absolute does not like high pressing football. 4231/433, doesn't matter, you can do a high press from both. Klopp, Wagner, Farke - all pretty much the same tactics, yet we seem to have found the only German that doesn't want to press, despite the whole point of him being here being continuity! I was prepared to accept a change in style last season as we were evidently outclassed and he was desperately trying to get some results any which way, but if the first two games in this league are taken as evidence the high press has gone out of the window. Out of possession we now retreat to half way and just try and block passing lanes. That is a total sea change to our terrier identity. Why? We aren't playing Liverpool/Man City/Spurs now. Yes I know possession isn't everything, but 36% yesterday. I don't think I could find a game under Wagner in this league that was so low. The figure against Derby (before they shut up shop) was similar. We no longer look to control games, and tbh I don't understand what we are trying to do, and I sure as hell don't think they players are buying into it either. The club were at great pains over the summer to present a united front and good team spirit, and within a week once the editing is put away I don't see it, with plenty of evidence to the contrary. All these players slating him/wanting to leave/have left/liking instagram posts criticising him...they cant all be wrong surely? There's too much noise. Yes he hasn't been backed in the market and I'm pissed off that we now seem to have a worse first XI after two years of £100m, but there is still enough here to put a side together that looks better than it currently does. I think he's come in, slated the methods of a bloke who'd achieved everything and was adored by most of the players (having achieved nothing himself and having absolutely no credit in the bank whatsoever), got even worse results and its just alienated them. Its the equivalent of you having a good boss in the office who leaves, and somebody else coming in and immediately slating everything and ripping up tried and trusted methods. He isn't turning this round, with fans or players.
