That was dreadful, absolutely dire. What I feared would happen has happened tonight.

The lack of investment over the summer shown clearly today - waken up Board - we got exactly what we deserved from our approach this summer
Bockhorn looked like a player signed from German 4-8th tier
Brown looked like a midfielder from league 2
Koroma looked like an attacking player from the conference
Plus
Bacuna needs to stop believing his own hype end of last season. Great or diabolical in the same game. Too much of the latter. Not enough basics done correctly
Mbenza awful. Second half counter attack he was walking, walking forwards. The ball went for a corner. He was 10 yards inside their half
The defence is as thin as feared. Why we did not sign a left back to get Kongolo at centre half is beyond me.
Few positives
Schofield 4/5 top top saves kept us in it (kicking needs work)
Kachunga second half. Did very well when played at 10
Van La Parra must be involved Friday

Nothing wrong with betting against your club but it sets up an emotional tug of war if you put a worthwhile bet on. The bookies set their odds based on formulae. This is a last-season PL side playing at home against a last-season L2 team. Factors such as not-taking such games seriously in the past cannot be quantified. There is also the argument that with different playing and management personnel, why should the fact that previous set-ups didn't take the League Cup seriously affect the present outfit? Fair point. I suppose I'm speaking as somebody who very rarely places bets, so the pull of a potentially large win is not something I'm familiar with (although I can imagine, obviously). I also understand the formula argument. Perhaps this is one area where we could be expected to beat the bookies because those look extraordinarily long odds. Previous set-ups shouldn't necessarily affect the present outfit, but we have many of the same players, same backroom staff & seemingly still the same attitude towards the competition that we once had - i.e. we'll say we're taking it seriously but this is a game we'll choose to "rotate" the squad*. * I completely agree with rotating the squad btw. I was going to put a bet on but never got around to it. I rather regret that now.

Are you in PR because seriously, you are doing a brilliant job of defending this rubbish? How am I defending it? Just saying that I've never been a big fan of change for change's sake, particularly at such an early stage in the season. But we need a spark pretty sharpish & Fri could well be the straw that breaks the camels back. I might sound more upbeat simply because I don't put as much importance on football nowadays. You're defending the status quo. And it was a compliment, even though I don't agree with you.

People might moan at the boring football at Brighton but at the moment Chris Hughton is looking in a different league to Jan and I'm not one for writing people off prematurely.

Replacing Lossl, Smith, Lowe, Durm, Zanka, Billing, Mooy and Depoitre with non league/League Two players and expecting them to do it in the Championship is dreadful management by the club. Siewert gets hammered and rightfully so, but the Chairman and recruitment team have to take just as much responsibility for that car crash of a summer. We’ve tried to do it on the cheap and it shows big time. Siewert will no doubt get the boot but do we really think the club will pay the wages of a Hughton or Jokanovic to replace him? We have done nothing over the summer to suggest we will do anything but reduce our budget down to a lower Championship club, and be back to where we were before Wagner arrived.

A few years ago I watched town at Bristol City under Wandsworth. It was embarrassing to be a Town fan. Being old enough to watch the original slide from the first to the fourth division I get the impression we might be just about to witness something similar.. why Did Dean sell the club to this guy? Was it all about recouping his money? Dean gave us the best ten years we have had for years but why sell to a guy who clearly hasn't got the financial backing to compete? Or has he? Something about this doesn't add up. If there were foreign investors prepared to get involved why did Dean turn them down? At the risk of vilification for suggesting it maybe Dean was happy to be the most successful chairman. Brave statement - You will get lynched on here for that thought... but until somebody comes up with a legitimate reason swiss tony now has ownership - other than hes a Town fan - its certainly food for thought A form of munchausens disease... sells to a known loser so that he can come riding in on a white charge and save us all again?? I'm now off to put the hard hat on
