2 things I don't understand: 1) Why it's wrong to bet against your own club. If I thought betting against us would make it more likely that we'd lose then fair enough, but it makes no difference. 2) Why those odds are so big. Honestly, I make Lincoln favourites for this one. It's a competition we never take seriously & even when we were good we got dumped out by Notts County and only got past Rotherham because their finishing was so appalling. Nothing wrong with betting against your club but it sets up an emotional tug of war if you put a worthwhile bet on. The bookies set their odds based on formulae. This is a last-season PL side playing at home against a last-season L2 team. Factors such as not-taking such games seriously in the past cannot be quantified. There is also the argument that with different playing and management personnel, why should the fact that previous set-ups didn't take the League Cup seriously affect the present outfit? Fair point. I suppose I'm speaking as somebody who very rarely places bets, so the pull of a potentially large win is not something I'm familiar with (although I can imagine, obviously). I also understand the formula argument. Perhaps this is one area where we could be expected to beat the bookies because those look extraordinarily long odds. Previous set-ups shouldn't necessarily affect the present outfit, but we have many of the same players, same backroom staff & seemingly still the same attitude towards the competition that we once had - i.e. we'll say we're taking it seriously but this is a game we'll choose to "rotate" the squad*. * I completely agree with rotating the squad btw.

Really looking forward to tonight, we've some exciting youngsters pushing for a first team place in Josh Koroma, Reece Brown, Trevoh Chalobah, Matty Daly and others and all will be looking to impress.

I cannot understand our policy regarding new players not playing immediately. Harry Maguire was straight into the Manure team yet Chalobah does not play despite playing for Ipswich last season. We then bring on big (or small jumpiing) Col who frankly is dire. Hopefully tonight I will be seeing what some of those new players can do as surely they cannot be any worse than our supposed first eleven. UTT

If we don't turn up again tonight then the pressure is on the manager going into Friday. Even a defeat tonight is forgivable if the performance is something where we can see that progress is being made. Still cannot see how the likes of Quaner, Diakhaby and Mpenza are all chosen ahead of RVP and to boot why was Jack Payne allowed to leave when we are lacking a players who can create something and finish something off? To add other names to the list like Lolly suggests we have taken leave of our senses at Town.

Imo this is a massive game for e club. Our manager has won one game since arriving. Most of the natives are restless. Some of his team selections have been baffling to say the least. So what will his allsorts team do tonight. Fascinating tbh. I will follow it with interest.

If we lose this place will go in a meltdown ! Highly probable. Lincoln are the most competitive team in the football league - they play crap football but refuse to lose.

This game’s gunna be an absolute stinker and wouldn’t read too much into it win or lose. It’s 2 reserve teams playing a game no player actually wants to play in probably barring our keeper.

Every Town game is an opportunity for tremendous excitement - why be a supporter if you don't believe that. Yes there might be some bitter disappointment after 90, but you have to go into the fray believing we will win. UTT

If we lose this place will go in a meltdown ! I hope we do lose. I would win a considerable amount of money if town lose and theirs two other upsets at Forest and Middlesbrough.

Town on the other hand I expect a drab performance from.

Was going to say it is extraordinary that supporters of a team that was in the premier league last season are dreading a cup match against a team that was in league two.
But somehow it isn't.

Personally I think we need to start building the confidence of those considered the first team XI and playing a full second string would not help team morale even if they won.
I'd pick a blend and go;
Grabara Bockhorn, Schindler, Kongolo, Brown Hogg, Brown, O'Brien Pritchard, Grant, Koroma
Give some of the younger players a shot but with some experience in the team to carry us through. Whilst it would be nice to give Schofield a game I think it's more important that Grabara continues to build an understanding with Schindler and Kongolo.

From QPR to Reading they have 5 games in 14 days. It would be madness to play anything but a second string tonight.

I don't think my kids realise that this is a cup competition, they think it's a one off early season game as we never play more than one match.

One thing we do know is that Grabara is not playing. Correction. We know that he is not playing in goal....... Who knows what Jan has in mind!

I take the point but I think building some semblance of confidence to carry into league games takes priority whilst looking so poor. A loss tonight just keeps us on our downward trajectory and is a hammer to morale. Play a completely untested set of players who've never played together competitively and it will be a loss if Lincoln play the majority of their first team.
