2+2=5 and all that but its 15/08 and 12.45 and I've just heard that despite an impressive league Cup win on Tues Macc Town boss Sol Campbell has gone by mutual consent. Nowt to do with HTFC, surely? Wouldn't want to swap one ego for another, so no ta. Anyway when we stuff Fulham 4-0 we'll wonder what the fuss was about. UTT

Why would 3-5-2 dominate the midfield any more than 4-3-3? Both involve 3 central midfielders. Think about how Derby manoeuvred round our 3 because it is too narrow. Their full backs came forward as well though................at this level, full backs are a big factor imo. Look how many assists/goals Smith and Loewe had the season we went up - the current two simply wont give us that, and I saw nothing in Brown the other night to suggest he can either, albeit I acknowledge it was 1 game. If they push on then the 3 in midfield becomes a 5 in possession but it can leave you exposed on the counter and when teams are slick through the central areas of the pitch. Personally, I wouldn't go for 3-5-2 - we don't have natural wing backs in the club from what I've seen and we haven't played with 2 up top for a good few years now so that would be a challenge to get instant rewards. Id revert back to 4-2-3-1 playing Pritchard, VLP and Diakhaby behind Grant and Hogg and Chalobah as the two holding players. Bacuna has had a poor start so would be benched alongside Schofield, Edmunds-Green, Mounie, Kachunga, O'Brien and Stankovic.

I didn't realise Fulham were so poor on the road. 1 win with 17 defeats in the last 20.
Our home form doesn't make much better reading either. 2 wins with 15 defeats in the last 20.
Preying we can make it 3 wins tomorrow 🙏

First time poster usually just read but due to me wanting this bloke away from my club I thought I'd start posting. I'm all for giving a bloke time but you need to see something in order to do that, he is clueless there is no plan for any game. It's like 11 men are plonked on a field and told to play. I'm genuinely hoping he doesn't sneak another lucky draw so the chairman is finally forced to sack him. He is not another Wagner just because he's from Dortmund. We should have taken our time and waiting to appoint the right man.
I'm going for a 0-1 Fulham win.

Weather warning issued tomorrow for heavy rain. Game could be in trouble looking at the amount expected 10 hours beforehand. Have we ever had a home game postponed for rain? Shrewsbury I think at the new ground but a long time ago

Right so how is 3-5-2 any different? If anything we lose width as we have 2 central strikers and an extra centre half instead of 2 wingers. Derby got through us, not round us, because Lawrence came off his wing and overloaded the middle, and we didn't know what to do in response. We stood watching.

I don't think the issue is playing 2 up front, it's the transition between midfield and attack that is non-existent (and was last year). It doesn't fit Jan's system but for me Pritchard (or maybe Kachunga?) has to play as a 10. Grant needs balls to feet.

For me the biggest question is ‘do the players back the manager?’
They will all know the pressure is mounting and he’s taken dog’s abuse all week. Are they prepared to go all out for him tonight or will we see another insipid, passive display?
That will determine his future more than the result in my eyes.

I suspect they're biding their time til it's over. It's not about effort anyway, they're just badly organised and coached and clearly have zero confidence it the way they're being asked to play. I'd be amazed if it's anything other than a routine defeat. I can't see us being able to string more than three passes together again, we struggled v derby even with Mooy on the pitch. I feel sorry for Jan, looked beaten in the press conference, not gonna be pleasant for him with the additional scrutiny of it being on sky. I don't understand why the club hasn't been able to see the blindingly obvious. Sent from my SM-G920F using proboards

Fulham are no great shakes at the moment. Really awful away record. Barnsley turned them over quite easily and their home game with Blackburn could have gone either way (so Blackburn's manager said ;o) ). So it may not be the Town loss that many are forecasting/wishing for, especially if Hogg and Bacuna get in early, show them some real 'Northern Hospitality' and the crowd get then behind them. Still fancy 1-1.

No you wouldn't lose width, you can either play if offensively or defensively 352, I'd propose we use the former. I would use two wingers VLP and Diakhaby but stress to them they MUST cover the hard yards and drop back in times of defence. Hogg anchors the midfield, Pritchard and Bacuna in there, I'd persist with Bacuna as he can get stuck in when needed but he needs to get his finger out though. The two strikers press when Fulham try to play it out of the back, unless they zip it around our midfield playing one touch football this makes it hard for Fulham to go through us, which results in us retaining and winning possession and maybe forcing Fulham to go long.

Whitehead, Hudson were seen in a long meeting with the technical team after the Lincoln game whilst Phil was on the phone. Not a usual meeting apparently. We all know it all hinges on tonight, the players will know - will they show that they are with the manager and give everything?
