TBF I agree he can play. He crossed a ball back at full pace yesterday that most wouldn't have even reached. My footballing brain comment refers more to the poor positions he adopts and his lack of anticipation of where to be and where to go. Surely you can't argue with that. Yep agree with that but also looked to be more comfortable in a 442 yesterday. Knew where he should be in attack and defence Agree with that. TBH I think the best we looked yesterday was when I went old school 4-4-2 with Mounie and Grant up front and ditched the idea of playing EVERYTHING out from the back. Don't get me wrong, I'm not part of the "Gerrit forrad" brigade but whilst we're bereft of confidence, I don't thing we're good enough to try and play everything out from the back. Both Mounie and Grant look WAY better in a "Two" up front (and as you say Diakhaby looked more comfortable and our main threat in that formation).

I think this is definitely one of the worst times, in my 50 years of supporting Town, because of what we've thrown away. I remember the bad old days of Div 4/Tim Clarke/the match against Chester etc but in those days we had little money and didn't really have the aspirations, expectations or resources that we've had in recent years. To go, in such a very short time, from surviving our first season in the promised land of the Premier league - with money, status, prospects, some decent players etc etc to where we are now - apparently little money (how MUCH have we blown?), some lower division players/weak replacements for our best players, and a whole group of players who are still taking so much out of the club without putting much, if anything, in is dreadful. Additionally we are stuck with these, now proven, failures (look at their stats for scoring/assists etc) and watch them week in week out have no end product/avoid heading/dive/roll around the ground as if shot/ get knackered after 65 minutes/avoid tackling/be disrespectful to the manager and club on social media etc etc and realise that we are stuck with them for the foreseeable future by which time their combined wages will have taken literally £millions more out of the club. I'm not even sure if Mbenza even bothers to pretend he's interested. It's not just the players either - from Wagner's giving up of our identity and then his desertion/our recruitment team's ineptitude/Julian Winter's getting paid a fortune for, at best, a non-performance, Hoyle's losing it for the last two years (for totally understandable reasons), the doubts about the new Chairman's ability/financial strength and bullshit ("we've goals in us", "I've watched Siewert closely", "we're bringing in...") - we seem to have the perfect storm of ineptitude at nearly every level. Of course we're not in the bottom division with crowds of 3/4 thousand, but much more of this and we could be. That's why I'm almost as pissed off as I've ever been in my 50+ years - so much promise and hope destroyed, so many weekly reminders of how bad we are, and about our only hope being we might somehow go against recent years recruitment get a superstar of a new manager. We've fallen a long way before, but not from such a great height of what the stay in the Premier league COULD have provided. To top it all, I live in Burnley and see every week how it SHOULD have been done. This is the best post ever , from the heart and so so true A very good post and I agree wholeheartedly with the COULD and SHOULD statement. I’ve watched Town for 49 years through thick and thin - to be fair lots of thin- and it was the fact that whatever happened and however long we stayed in the PL it didn’t matter because we would be set up to be a solid Championship club for years to come at the very least. I never ever thought I would see the day when we signed players costing millions and it is that aspect that hurts the most - we paid millions for some players that are worth pence - Mbenza and Diakahby to name but two. Fingers crossed that we get the right manager in that can restore the hope and not let what might have been slip away completely.

Totally agree,htfcsince71 - as you say "it was the fact that whatever happened...we would be set up to be a solid Championship club for years to come..." Things have gone massively wrong - Big Phil hasn't helped but most of the faults can't really be laid at his door.

I have never felt more pissed off or more angry at the Club than I do now.
Forty odd years watching us finally achieve Premiership status only for it to be given up like nobody cared a toss . The very least expectation of relegation should see us as others have pointed out "been set up to be a solid Championship club for years to come"
Huge difference of putting up with lower division football knowing you haven't a pot to piss in and this shit fest right now. What a way to reward the fans and totally scupper the increased fan base we gained. It really is so bad you couldn't make it up. Those running the club since the start of the second PL season have bottled it, and proved themselves totally inept. The biggest thing for me was when we made no siginings in the Jan window i.e. no attempt to stay in the Premiership 99.9 % thought we were keeping the funds for the Championship! To see us sign L2 AND NON LEAGUE PLAYERS TAKES THE PISS!!! I WILL NOT BE A ST AT THIS CLUB IN LEAGUE 1 where I suspect everybody running the show would be far more comfortable not after wasting our GOLDEN TICKET . ******************************************************************************RANT OVER****************************************************************************

It’s disappointing for me because after the perfect storm of Wagner + Webber + Hoyle + the support + the recruitment, we got to the premier league and exceeded my wildest dreams - at which point I thought we’d be set for at least the next ten years. By that I don’t necessarily mean Premier League football, but, I do mean trying to emulate a Burnley, or previously a West Brom/Hull of coming down, regrouping and competing again for promotion. Not doing a Villa and spending ridiculous sums, but, at least being in a position to have a manager, an identity, a clear style of playing (preferably which leads to more than one player in the box when attacking) and competing for top end championship level signings.
This summer has been disappointing, not because of the players we lost - that was always expected, but because we don’t seem to have recruited very well. We don’t seem to have filled obvious gaps in the squad (ball playing midfielder/play maker, left back etc), the DOF was recruited far too late, and we then sack the manager a few games in thus having wasted all pre season when someone should have been stamping a clear pattern of play on this team. We have no god given right to be top 6, but, I’d expect after two years in the premier league we’d at least be looking to compete with ambitions signings and an ambitious managerial appointment.

With fear of having my head bitten off. PH will be feeling it more than anyone. The blokes clearly a Town fan, he's had criticism (fair enough) but blamed for things before his time and then he's had rumour and accusation levelled at him which is both unfair but unfounded too. He has to get the wage bill down. This has to happen but we are going to be stuck or make massive losses on alot of our players. Thats not really his fault either. It's difficult times to say the least. We really cannot afford relegation though. That is for certain. Wages are covered for this season him and hoyle said.

I'm not pissed off. I just don't care! Which is a far worse feeling to have, I choose to travel a large number of miles for games not to mention the actual time it takes and at the moment I don't feel like coming to the games. The first half against Reading was brilliant (atmosphere, players attitude etc) I'm not expecting a high level of quality but I want to see the team having a go...especially at home. I read a lot of posts about the players and certain board members not being good enough for the club etc but the reality is we failed with the premier league opportunity - that lies with Hoyle (regardless of his illness) it was his responsibility to have people in who could run the club without him if required. Hoyle WAS a god for what he did to stabilise and build the club but for me he has ruined that over the past 18 months. Did ego come into it with owning a premier league club? Then the excuse of not selling to an international consortium because they would only attend a handful of games, and instead selling to Phil because he's a fan. This to me seems like Hoyle sold to someone who wouldn't progress the club to a higher level and in some ways over shadow his legacy which it now looks like it is having that effect anyway. I know Hoyle loves the club and is a fan etc but aren't we all? And before people start slagging me off about being a prem fan etc, I went to my first game in 1983. This feels worse than 2003 for the simple reason that at the moment it appears like the club has a whole has given up and the fans are starting to head in that direction which is not a good place to be in. I'm not even sure if a few wins will even make a difference at the moment. The club need to acknowledge that mistakes were made, admit they wasted an opportunity and then try to get the club united and move forward. The lack of local players at the moment is also a concern, we need a few local lads who are in the squad week in week out and performing to make us feel like the club is ours again. I have nothing against foreign players but what is needed right now are a couple of Huddersfield lads who the fans can relate to. Yep, dean has to shoulder the majority of the blame, he must have known when wagner got shouldered with all responsibility of running the team during his illness, that the cavalry weren't up to scratch. But I presume he'd thrown the towel in by then. Shame on him, and a shame dw got forced out as such.

Seen some tough times in my 43 years watching Town and this is yet another. For me not winning games for long periods is soul destroying and usually means relegation. May be a while before we see success again.

No idea when Blue Peter is on since I rarely watch TV apart from sport - just a turn of phrase - and I AM definitely well out of touch with the modern world. Not sure about Mbenza but (possibly because the players MAY have "enjoyed" pre-season) about eight of them have looked shattered towards the end of the games that I have seen this season. I very much hope that some serious work in being done to get them to optimum fitness before the next game. UTT

I just really can't be arsed any more. .Who the fuck wants to go watch a bunch of players who don't want to be there, get beat every week? We deserve so much more. Absolutely shambolic that we didn't invest in the summer.
The players should be thankful we are a pretty chilled out mob in Huddersfield, Yorkshire.
I would imagine the training ground would have been invaded and a fair few of the players given a right gobfull of home truths if we were from Huddersfield in Italy, Spain or Portugal etc

The great slide of the 70s as other old uns have mentioned. My first game was 74-75... I remember home gates of approx. 2000 in the iconic Leeds Road stadium. It was awful but we had 2000 die hards long suffering that stuck with the club. My big fear is history repeating itself... and the current incumbents are doing a good job on that! We need a Messiah... a new Mick Buxton ... someone with a no-nonsense approach who will bring back the pride. I remember a sign years ago at one home game we lost think York 1-2 around 1977 - 'WE WANT SUCCESS NOW.' Well I have a new one for the current incumbents - 'WE WANT PRIDE AND PASSION NOW'

Have been a watching and supporting town for over 55 years now, still think lowest point was from around 73 until mick Buxton came along to save us going out of the road league. Crowds of just over a thousand years ago crap inept football and player's who didn't care. Wait a minute and starting to sound like it is now. We went from top division to bottom in 4seasons. Same could be be happening again if we don't get right coach in. The only decent owner chairman in my time as a supporter has been Dean hoyle. I don't have any confidence in hodgkinson. The one thing always with our club has been lack of ambition. From the Shanklin fiasco in the 50s,not bringing in any players in the 71/72season. Appointing poor managers up to Buxton. The Marcus Stewart mess giving promotion to our rivals. The shysters Rubery. Mcdonald, Wadsworth and Tennant and a few more the list is endless. Wagner did a great job getting us to the premier league. But 2nd season poor recruitment let us down. Its the total lack of ambition does my head in. And potless isn't going to change that. How much longer is he going to dither over a new coach. I really fear its going to be the 70s all over again.

it also seems like we've had a once in a lifetime opportunity...not easy but quite possible when you look at Burnley, and a few others.. we weren't expecting much in the PL, bottom 6 for a few years, just survive, and build gradually...but decisions in the boardroom (again) have proved our downfall.. It's galling, everyone knew what we wanted last summer..we didn't need to bankrupt the club, we spaffed £25m on crap, still made £20m profit..we had money but couldn't find 2 or 3 decent players on the planet ? That £45m will cost us ten times that the direction we're going now..I don't think i'll ever not be angry about it..

I think all I feel currently is embarrassment. I am embarrassed that:
We aren't, apparently, able to attract a proven top quality manager to our club when we have just exited the most successful period in 45+ years We seem to have become an utter shambles as a club from where we were once solid, coherent and transparent I had to suffer being goaded by Luton Town fans as I left Kenilworth Rd on Saturday That we have only won 4 games of football in over 50
I am NOT embarrassed by our fantastic fan base who continue to support the club, and each other, so diligently through what is a thoroughly disheartening period. Yes some moan and express frustration (there is no call for abusing people or similar - it's unacceptable) but many continue to represent our club magnificently in what are trying times. Those in charge should be embarrassed that this support is being let down so badly.
Somebody needs to show leadership and take hold of this situation. This is PH's responsibility now, we are all going to discover how capable he is or isn't in the next few months.
We cannot continue like this. I want some stability and coherence back, nothing more.

All this ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ and ‘doing a Burnley’ is rubbish. Every single club that is promoted will say the same. How can everyone ‘do a Burnley’ when 3 clubs are relegated? Does that mean the 3 who are relegated have all blown their ‘once in a lifetime’, no. We should have had one season in Premier League, we got two. Maybe just the one would have been better in the long run, who knows. ‘Supporters’ will support the club, it’s shit at the minute, it won’t be forever.

If we had won those games about 90 per cent of the threads on here wouldn't have been started. Its getting ridiculous. We all need to calm down a bit I am perfectly calm and rational I assure you - as I hope most would agree I call it as I see it at the time. I am naturally positive but not afraid of calling it out when things aren't great, and they aren't great at the moment. Re attracting the manager: Most, if not all, clubs who had been relegated from the Premier League would be looking to recruit the best possible candidate available. The fact that proven (the merits of each could be debated) candidates such as Jokanovic, Karanaka and Hughton are not being linked seriously is not a great indication of where we are right now. They may not be interested for a number of reasons but the fact they aren't, or certainly aren't linked is telling it's own story. You are right that I don't know, I admit it. I can also not recall what I posted when Clark left (same with Grayson, Robins etc...) but you hope to get someone who has the ability to take you forward, has energy, enthusiasm, ideas and a plan. Someone, such as Hughton, who comes with a credible cv would be very encouraging. I was talking to my pal, a long standing Town fan, last week. He made a pertinent observation about the essential difference between when DH took over and PH. Pretty much everything DH said, once he had full single control (he has admitted he should not have supported the Ternent appointment) pretty much was delivered against. He built trust through fulfilling what he had said he would deliver. To date PH has not built that credibility, in fact you could say what he has said so far hasn't really amounted to anything of substance. That doesn't mean that he won't deliver but as the old saying goes "you never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression" and I am afraid the 1st impression hasn't been encouraging (not to my eyes anyway). As for my feelings at Luton. This was, for reasons that I won't bore people with here, largely personal. Let me say I had no issue with them taking the proverbial, I think they got the wrong context of the "Luton Town" song but understand why they did. It was just the culmination of a number of months of failure on the pitch that we didn't have enough heart, guile and determination to at least get something from a game that man for man we should have been able to. Luton have risen from the ashes and are on the up but we haven't fallen so far that we couldn't have taken the game to them. We have no divine right to beat anyone but we should be better than we were. The fact their fans loved every second really compounded what has been a thoroughly miserable few months. But as I say that was largely personal too. If we don't take a balanced view and challenge what is happening at the club when it is needed then nothing will change. I am not panicking but I am saying we need to realise we need to be better, we are capable of being better and something needs to be done. How long is it before we are all on the same page with our concerns? It can't be too far off now? I genuinely appreciate your balance and challenging me - it's a fair debate - but I hope this explains my current level of concern and reasons behind it.

I take the point but I think most people are saying we had a better opportunity and we have, to date, made a complete pigs ear of that opportunity. I think we could have all, reasonably, expected better than the complete mess we are in now. BUT there are no guarantees in football.. We don't have a divine right. We (Dean Hoyle the saviour) appointed a head coach who couldn't even get them fit in the longest pre season if all time.. We are having to play catch up.. No one is happy or satisfied but we are where we are.. Time to stop the non stop sniping imo It is not sniping it is trying to say "please someone take control, admit there have been mistakes and start taking action to address the problems we have". By all means explain, clearly, the parameters we have to work within but admit this is not good enough.
