If Webb was identified, which he was, it wasn’t Phils own man it was from previous. So surely they could get in touch and ask his opinion on players etc... Webb knowing that he was lined up for the job would then not suggest players that he didn’t think could cut it.
Siewert was backed by Phil. He even said they had a great time in Austria with players who were committed!! Phil didn’t spend to improve knowing full well that players of better quality would leave. The whole thing is a mess.
Phil like any chairman is obviously going to fully back his manager in public, He isn't going to say anything else but how he fully backs him and neither should he.
And hes hardly likely to publicly say the players looked confused and or uninterested in Austria either is he, whether he privately thought that or not.
Webb was employed by another club and not in a position to give his professional opinion on players we might sign, without falling foul of all sorts of rules I would think, not to mention the ethical trust he had with his current employer.
If hed done that, Im not sure hed be the sort of character we'd want to employ anyway. Its a position that relies on a lot of trust and all hed be demonstrating was that he wasn't trustworthy.
We only really lost 2 key players, which for a relegated club isn;t too bad and one of them had barely been playing for months and had made his position at the club untenable.
We held on to the rest of the key players. He, righty IMO, assumed there was enough quality in the squad to compete well in this division. And there is as hopefully with a good manager we're about to find out.
You seem to think he held back money just for the sake of it.
I ask you, would you give the people who decided Mbenza was a good buy at £11m, Diakhaby at £8m, Sobhi at £5m etc etc another , lets say £20m to spend on more players??
You think Phil should have, in which case we'd now probably have another 2 or 3 failing, very highly paid players to add to our collection and no money left in the pot either for signings or wages for whatever new manager we could attract to mend the situation.
THATS a mess, not where we are now with only 6 games gone but being able to attract an exciting manager who alongside the DOF they chose should hopefully have the ammunition to improve the side over the next couple of windows ( as Phil said we would )
Some of the people criticising Phil Hodgkinson couldn't run a bath.
