Euro 2020 will be cancelled. All games should be played. I don’t see how they couldn’t be and football still carry on. As funny as it would be to see Liverpool robbed of the title and Leeds not go up, the ramifications would be huge. Everyone taking everyone to court, etc.

Nobody is promoted or relegated yet so what would they be claiming for when there's no mathematical certainty of anything yet? Genuine question but surely any decent lawyer would destroy that case?

Cancel this horrible season and let’s start again afresh, when we can, so that we can hopefully mount a serious promotion challenge next time. It would be a wonderful bonus if also L***s don’t get promotion.

As a Town fan of course we would just end the season now, we are still papping it that we might go down. Try telling that to any club in any division fighting for promotion and who could possibly catch up. If we take away the glasses, this season should finish. The when, where and how is what needs sorting out. Not if. If we had never been in the top flight and were pushing this season (Fleetwood have never been in Championship and are pushing) I think the vote would be pretty one sided for the season to be finished until the end. That being said, if the bodies involved are even contemplating voiding the season they should bite the bullet and do it asap, maybe beginning of April when we should know how severe this is going to be. This will give plenty of time for the smaller clubs to plan financially for the future.

This is a serious situation. So serious in fact that we should cancel this season and the one before it.

Where is the option for Leeds should be relegated into the National league?

Linked to whether we restart the season or not after June are things like player's contracts having terminated / loans expired etc

Things need to pan out more before anything can be decided. If there is a vote, I hope we vote for what we think is fair and equitable, rather than what is best for us. If anyone thinks otherwise, they should never chirp on about the likes of Gartside again.
Don't get me wrong, I will piss myself if the season is cancelled and there's no promotion or relegation.

Play the remaining fixtures when it is safe to do so. Those corresponding fixtures for next season are awarded double points, so next season's fixture doesn't have to be played, allowing for a shorter season in 2020/21.
Points awarded for promoted and relegated teams based on their respective league positions, so, if Bournemouth, villa and Norwich are relegated, their points for the remaining fixtures are given to Leeds, West Brom and a.n. other fr next season's 'missed' fixtures

Massive dilemma - euros will surely be cancelled this year, but if postponed until next and this goes on for say 3m how do they get this seasons games plus next years in ahead of the rescheduled euros? If it goes on beyond that......Say to Aug and beyond it will be carnage! Also, player contracts expire 30/6 - how will that play out if this year extends close to or beyond that date? There isn’t an easy answer, particularly as some clubs in some leagues have played more games than others.........as such you can’t just say take it as it is now and promotion/ relegation occurs again.....as it stands now.

The remaining games are unlikely to be played as 1. We have not yet reached the peak which may be some 12 to 14 weeks if what we are being told turns out to be correct . 2. Key players could be missing from squads and whole teams could be self isolated if outbreaks of the virus take hold. 3. Many players contracts and loans will run out in June again seriously weakening teams. 4. If the games are held back for too long it would effect next season making a mess of 2 years worth of games.
Hopefully the season is declared null and void as whatever anyone says current league positions could dramatically change if all of the games were played out hence those promoted or relegated may well have benefited unfairly if the league stands as is.Whilst our neighbours would no doubt complain profusely they have not lost anything that they did not already have. Either way we should be ok hopefully and can then rebuild for next season.

i think it's pretty certain the coronavirus situation will not be any better come 3rd April, but it's right that a decision has been made to suspend games pending a situation review in April. However the next decision has to be a final decision, they can't defer any further forward.. I hear the deaths in the UK has doubled with 10 deceased today...That is already scaring me if it is a measure of the escalation we can expect in coming weeks.. We might find some of the european leagues have to face a decision before we do, and that might set the tone for where we go with it..

Theres a suggestion floating around that the top two go up with 4 relegated next season from the PL, whilst I wouldn't agree because of my bias and the insanity weve tolerated over the past 16 years (certainly the first 10 of them when like the windies they actually believed that they were better than they are), it seems like a wise idea.
Hopefully all cleared up b4 April 3rd.

I posted this on the covid thread and i do believe this would be the best way to end this season properly and fairly to those clubs about to go up or down. A solution to the season void problem is actually pretty straightforward. The problem with promoting or relegating teams with 10 games to go is everyone has not yet played everyone else home and away. You could have a situation where the side in 18th has played the top 2 home and away, but the side in 17th and a point ahead of them has still to play both the top 2 away from home. So the league table isn;t an accurate way of determining whos done the best at that point. All you have to do is give clubs a score for whove theyve played from the other 19 clubs from the league table as it stands ( in the prem for example ). If youve played Liverpool away you score 19,,, Liverpool at home 9 1/2.... Man City away score 18, Man City home 9... and so on. Then you multiply that total by the actual points each club has up to that point... gives you a final position that takes into account your points, whilst also taking into account the strength of the games youve played and haven't yet played. Would actually be the fairest way to do it, but as Leeds would certainly still go up, maybe just calling it void would be better.

There's already a rule isnt there? If 75% of games are played then season ends as is.

Penalty shoot out for each game behind closed doors - 5 penalties. Win, lose or draw can be the result.
Nobody needs to be within 12 yards of anybody else.
Season could be finished in a few days. Teams only need 6 healthy players.

But if a team changes position on this basis then, in order to get the real picture, you'd have to run your formula again wouldn't you? So if a win over Soton gets 6pts but then Soton move up 2, you should have actually got 8 for a win against them?

All these alternative proposals are pie in the sky in my opinion, you either finish the season in full or cancel it.

With the unpredictability of the championship it’d be just as fair to use a bingo machine. If anything like this happens it’s probably goodbye football for me.

Look at the the state of this www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51889682 It’s unfair to relegate teams from the PL with 9 or 10 games to go BUT it’s Ok to promote teams from the championship with 9 games to go. Tw*t!

Tw*t! Yep, it's a load of bollocks. All of these alternate proposals are. Unless the authorities are willing to spit in the face of fair play, then there's either a full season conclusion or there is no season to record. If you're not mathematically promoted, then you aren't promoted. Teams have blown bigger margins than the ones Leeds and WBA find themselves in before, so there's absolutely no way they can just say "oh they'd probably do it so let's promote them anyway". If a cup final featuring a PL team vs a League Two team was indefinitely suspended for some reason, would they just award it to the PL team? Course not, because despite an obvious advantage, they wouldn't have actually won the fucking thing. This is no different. The Premier League come to that decision and that'll probably be me done with football tbh.

They should have been playing the games in the next 3 weeks... as many as possible. When the government advises that it's going to get worse for the next 14 weeks they have already made the decision that the season is basically over.... so the only things to sort out now are promotion and relegation.
Seen as though under the rules of the league neither promotion or relegation have been earned. Then I dont believe that can happen.
The league started and must complete under the rules set out in the league constitution, there may be some ability to extend the season by say the 3 weeks that they have so far delayed by, but, I would presume there is something about league completion by June 1st.
There is also the issue of contracts and when they run until for players.
It's a contractual issue as much as an issue with the stakeholders particularly Leeds and Liverpool who will obviously miss out. They will have to call force majure to satisfy all the contracts involved. As will all the other competitions.
Restarting the season, same european qualifiers, same leagues and compensation for no promotion paid to the FA to the tune of 300M or so for unfulfilled parachute payments/promotion etc. Paid on a sliding scale throughout the football league depending on final positions.
Of course the most sinister outcome would be that the European super league comes out of this situation allowing for promotion of anyone who was occupying the playoffs in any league and the "big 6" moving to a European superleague.
