What makes anyone think that the Premier League, which is basically the clubs, would vote in favour of more games when they're already complaining the schedule is too congested? I don't see the 22 team scenario happening at all. Even if it did, why should the top 2 get promoted? What about those in the play offs, or those just outside? What about Fulham who still have a chance at top 2? Where possible they will finish the season. The interesting point will be if the season continues after 30th June when all the contracts have an end date. Well what makes me think they’d vote for it is it could easily be used as a trigger to abandon the League Cup, in a move that becomes permanent. Throw in the very possible likelihood that next years Champions League and Europa League will have to be shrank or cancelled, then the prospect of each EPL club having 4 more League games to squeeze in is going to concern nobody. Whatever happens next few months, this WILL all be back happening again next year. Even if a vaccine or treatment can be found in rapid quick time, with need for clinical trials etc there’s no chance whatsoever that the availability of treatment will have progressed by next January. All that might have progressed is the development of coping systems...things might get shut down QUICKER next February.

I have a slightly radical solution, football manager PC game is the answer, I am certain it would be possible to make an online game mod, where the season stands at exactly where it is now, same points GD, squads, injuries, bans ect, so every manager of every team gets to log in to the game and on any given date, or dates they play their own teams games and whatever happens happens

I wonder what Crystal Palace fans thoughts are...Roy Hodgson is likely going to effectively be under house arrest by the time April comes along!

Unless they have enough time to finish it off which I cant see happening, surely the only options to cancel it. Nine games left and 27 points to play for in our league. Leeds and West Brom are 7 points clear and still have to play teams in the playoffs and the bottoms tights as a ducks arse. You cant be promoting or relegating teams with so many points still to play for.
As gut wrenching as it would be to support anyone with a fighting chance of promotion in any of the leagues this year, theres more important things going on.

All the suggestions being mooted on here and in general are just utter nonsense. You absolutely cannot change the rules part way through.
If the season can't be finished, it can't be finished - end of. If a competition isn't able to be concluded, then it's not possible to have winners and losers. There isn't a hope in hell of getting an agreement on any option that attempts to concoct an outcome.
Abandoning the season is going to be hard on some, but it's nowhere near the most important issue here. What is, is hoping that as many as possible of us and our families actually get through this!

If the season cannot be brought to a logical conclusion (which I don't think it can) then I think the only option is to declare the season null & void. Harsh on teams who MAY have been promoted, lucky for those who MAY have been relegated but I cannot see any other way. Whilst there could be potential legal action from the likes of Leeds & West Brom I would say based on what. They could both be caught with the number of games left. And who would they bring action against - the PL or the EFL. As for Promotion/relegation play off's this won't work as you would need to include all the teams that are mathamatically invoved to make sure it is fair (you cannot simply draw a line and say all those below Reading are involved in the play off (at the bottom of our league) and those above are ok. I would have thought this would involve more potential legal action than simply declaring the season null & void.

I can't see why the games can't be played behind closed doors with Sky covering the PL & Championship games via the red button. One camera is all that's needed. It would be a nice gesture if the top clubs would donate a couple of million each into a central pot that could be then distributed to the more needy lower league clubs.

Although you`re correct in the fact it would be a nice gesture, i reckon theres more chance of platting piss, it wouldnt have taken so much to keep Bury afloat but they just didnt care.

I think that option went when Arteta caught it, plus a few players. And besides, if you screen the games, fans will congregate somewhere to watch them. In some cases already (Valencia the main one I can think of) thousands have gathered directly outside the stadium.

The owners, and theyre the ones who'll be voting, don;t, because more games = more money. Thats why theyre all so keen to go off on pre and post season tours to add a few more lucrative fixtures to the congested season. My guess is the prem WILL vote to increase to 22 teams. Its more money and there are doubts about European football next season. They'll en masse pull out of the league cup to open up some extra dates for the games.( no real money in the LC ) Its Leeds and WBA coming up. If the top two in the championship were Preston and QPR it might be a different story but as ever with the prem, the decision will be mainly based on money.

The Premier league is run by the Premier league. Not even the EFL would ditch their own competition, screwing lower league teams out of needed money, in favour of 2 championship sides going up.

The extra 2 games will make little difference to most club's incomes. In fact for the majority, I wouldn't be too surprised if League Cup income for a home game was the same, if not higher.

Its 76 more games that can be sold and broadcast here and around the world. Plus the revenue from 2 extra home games. It'll make enough difference for them to vote for it IMO.

They've already been agreed. Can they just start a new bidding process? I don't know, but I doubt it. As said above, the 2 home games will probably have a lower revenue than 2 league Cup games. League Cup games have tickets sold for every seat rather than most being ST holders, plus income for progressing.

Id have thought theyd treat the 2 extra league games like cup games.. theyre not included in your season ticket as that was sold for 19 games, but you can buy your seat for those 2 games for £x. They'll make a lot more money than any league cup game where the grounds half empty even though its a much reduced ticket price.
I don;t know how broadcasting deals are sold. Theyve been agreed but that will have been for a certain amount of games. Im sure theyd find a way of getting more money from the broadcasters if theyre showing those extra 76 games though, particularly when its Leeds, as like it or not they are still a 'name' around the world that will attract big viewing figures.

Cannot believe people are even suggesting playing games behind closed doors. The "public" need protecting but not footballers (some earn vast sumes of money but the most don't). To tell people that they have to go to work, whatever the circumstances, mix with people who they don't know anything about (other players, hotel staff, catering staff etc etc) and then go home to family & friends is ridiculous. If this stupid option was to be taken them all players involved must be kept away from the general public and their family and friends for the whole period the games are played.

Ultimately it'll be the simplest decision that will be taken. Convaluted and complicated assumptions will be avoided as they'll just attract criticism and likely legal action...whereas a straight abandoning of the season and no one promoted or relegated is the obvious, and only, solution..

That is the only way to avoid legal action by anyone remotely concerned. If it’s done in the championship it will have to be done everywhere in the elf Could bury be readmitted?

No matter how serious this gets, It just won't happen. Players mixing with other players is no different to members of the public mixing with anybody else. How do you think foods and medicines etc will be distributed? By folk mixing with other folk. Football is no different to any other industry.

Force majeure.... otherwise all penalties in all contracts, player, club and league would stand.
A lawsuit from leeds and West Brom would be laughable compared to those from contracts not fulfilled by not declaring force majeure. Also most of these contracts are future deals, so continuing the season after the end of the season brings these into breach. If it was cancelled then season tickets, sponsor deals for clubs etc would all come under force majeure.
The decision will be purely made on a legal and financial basis, by top london lawyers mitigating losses. When you take the football out of the decision and the fairness or otherwise of teams winning titles, promoted and relegated. Then the obvious legal position would be to void the season.

Yeah it’s a shame. Ive long advocated the introduction of a franchise system but it would unfortunately mean the current system having to totally break down first and 50 or 60:clubs going to the wall in order for the space to be generated to form a new centrally and closely governed system. But we probably need a global war or a massively devastating virus or suchlike for that to have a chance of happening.

London Lions? Teams swapping cities like in the States? Genuinely curious as to how you would franchise football without completely eliminating its local, grass roots ethos.
