I have to say that our lack of activity this week is astounding. We all know we need to get a few in, and we know that some or all of these will be loans - surely these are low financial risk so can be done without the need for Grant/Flo to go? We've cleared so much off the wage bill and brought in fees - the lack of movement and communication is ridiculous. Agree with this. We go into our 2nd consecutive game with a team devoid of any attacking threat and woefully short in numbers. It is beyond a joke now, I know we aren't exactly rich but this is bordering on skint as it gets for Championship level. So many areas of weakness I really do feel for Carlos how on earth is he supposed to expect to score when his forward options are Diakhaby, Mbenza Campbell, Ward (who I said I was underwhelmed with and already is a concern with his fitness) and Koroma young lad with no Championship experience is frightening. Also if we are signing players from abroad surely somebody was intelligent enough to realise this would need to be completed considerably earlier than now with the 14 day quarantine rule. The only positive of this is nobody expected us to get much out the first 5 anyway so hopefully all new signings if we ever spend anything are ready for week 6 when we can kick on hopefully. It would be such a Hoyle/Phil thing to do sell Grant last day of the window like they did Rhodes, incidentally anybody know where that money is? Jokes haha

I just think we have got people who are inexperienced and out of their depth overseeing the transfer dealings. The only person involved you could trust to do their job right is Anne Hough, and she just deals with end bits in contracts and registrations.

Not sure about that, but it's certainly the first period since the Davy era where I've been profoundly concerned about the running of the club at all levels, on and off the pitch. Phil Has had over a year and apart from a few bad tempered Twitter forays and an appearance on the Takes That Chance Podcast that raised more questions than it answered, communication is non existent. Sean Jarvis currently tweets more about the club than anyone still involved at a higher level. It's a retrograde step and we appear to be in total disarray. Of course, it may all be going according to some master plan, but without the club being open with us or engaging the fan base (arguably our biggest asset and most attractive marketing tool?) we are forced to speculate. We currently have a striker way past his best (and his best was never that great) and another who wasn't brilliant first time he was here and whom we got for nowt - all this in a side that has struggled to score goals for 4 or 5 years, periods when we always had better than we have now available to us.

So the window shuts in a little over 2 weeks time, still plenty of time to bring some fresh recruits in but it’s looking very much like we need to sell first for this to happen. Another week has drifted by with nothing happening, we really need for WBA to play ball and get a deal for Grant over the line and then hope there’s some legs to the Kongolo to Fulham story as both deals should generate plenty of funds. As it stands, we are essentially impotent up front and severely lacking in creativity in midfield and at this rate, we’re going to have a similar start to this season to last which will make it once again a struggle to avoid relegation. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to have any positivity about anything connected to the club at present. It's not West Brom that need to play ball.....It's us that need to play ball with them and get the deal done rather than holding out for more money, better payment terms etc etc. We did the same with Kongolo last year. Grant should have been sold 3-4 weeks ago.

VLP..took us up 50 yards a few times, held it, held it, held it, came all the way back and played a square ball to an opponent, break they score.. One game he beat the same man 4 times..then lost it.. I'm all for running with the ball and running at opponents but!!!!!!! He held the ball because when there was no viable pass available the aim was not to lose possession . I’m convinced that with the shackles taken off he’d be one hell of an attacking threat. I'm all for possession.. Not a great believer in possession for it's own sake no matter how it puts the whole team out of position.. 2 incidents from the norwich game reinforced this.. Schindler gets stick for putting the ball out for a corner, he could have tried to play, we organised and they didnt score. 0 0 at 80 plus minutes, we overplay and Stearman ends up facing his own goal, has extra touches allowing norwich to move up before he plays a bad back pass. We play the ball forward at any point in this and they dont get an easy goal, they probably dont score at all. Bad possession is worse than playing a percentage forward ball.. It might be me but I think I have seen more bad, easy, mistake ridden goals than really good ones?? We have become experts at aiding and abetting the opposition..

1 deal done subject to medical, very good player. Another deal, striker on loan, close. No names so don't ask lol. Assuming a football medical can take a couple of days, surely we can we expect an update today? Here’s hoping.

Rhodes, Vaughan, Beckford, Nahki. All here during years we were told we couldn't compete with clubs in receipt of parachute payments, all better at the time they were here than what we have now whilst in receipt of parachute payments. It's a pisstake.

Also slightly worrying if there’s only 2 deals that are close to being done. We need more than that or we won’t be scoring many goals or winning many games.

They may be offering £15m, but it's £5m guaranteed with the rest based on goals, appearances, WBA staying up plus anything else. Should we accept that? Would you? I wouldn't. It's easy to say get on with it when we all know we need reinforcements. But there's only really Grant and O'Brien that we can get good money from, so we need to maximise the deal for Grant and not end up having to sell O'Brien. I'd take £10m guaranteed, with an extra £5m based on reasonable extras (not WBA staying up!). I'd then have a 40% sell-on and another £5m on unreasonable extras 😂

Massive apologies if this has already been posted but I’ve just read Bilic complaining about West Brom’s budget.
Apparently he walks into training everyday wondering if Filip Krovinovic, who they had on loan last season, has returned.
He cited the budget being the reason as to why the loan hasn’t become permanent, so I suspect what’s why the Grant saga seems to have come to an abrupt halt.
Not sure where that leaves Grant if WBA can’t afford him.
Would he down tools if he stayed or would he be on fire with one eye on a move in January??

Unless there is no chance of them going straight in the squad,in which case would make sense to wait until after tomorrow’s game to make any announcements to avoid Carlos fielding only questions about signings.Just a theory.

Watched highlights of the Hibs match the other day and that Martin Boyle who we've been linked with before looks decent. Very direct pacey winger and wouldn't cost too much I don't think.

We got nothing for Kongolo last summer when we could have sold him for something. That something could have been used to strengthen the squad. We priced him out of the market and got nothing. We then signed pretty much nothing that strengthened the team. We could have got something for Grant 3-4 weeks ago and potentially made a couple of signings with it. Those signings could have been on the training pitch with CC and his team, as well as the rest of the first team and B team for the last few weeks. Hopefully, we will be able to sell Grant for the money we want for him. Imagine if he's still here when the window closes and not wanting to play or train.

Not sure if anyone else has posted this but Van la Parra has just posted a picture on Instagram in our colours with the caption ‘gods timing’ Sounds like he may be on his way back. Have I missed something more than that photo? Whilst the picture is indeed in 'our colours', that's not our shirt and he also played for Herenveen and Brighton (I think). I think the clue you're looking for is maybe on his arm.... That he's a tit too.....sorry my mistake tattoo

Sure, when I am on the politics sub board I'm a different beast, but then it comes to football I try to explain my posts, back them up somehow and not just post incessantly negative posts lacking in context. Any updates on the lad from Ajax on loan?? Seemed like a credible source. PeteO Sky. Anyone can see we’re desperately in need of championship standard players, without some signings Carlos has no chance. There were encouraging signs against Norwich but everybody knew it would be Huddersfield nil at the final whistle.

I don't think £16-18m is unreasonable for Town to demand for Grant. The other day, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez went to Aston Villa for £17m at the age of 28 after playing only 15 games above Championship level. Grant played 13 games above Championship level and is not 23 yet. He's scored goals in every competition in English football - usually in a shit side. He has a 1 in 3 record across all divisions and (on paper) plays either as a striker or a winger.
Bearing in mind you pay more for goalscorers and I think Martinez has been pretty shite throughout his career, it isn't an astronomical fee. Although, it seems Liverpool's sales (Ibe, Solanke and Ward for £46.5m) prove that it isn't about the player in question its about the club selling.
As I say, I don't think £16-18m is unreasonable for Grant but if it is preventing our incomings, I'd either accept £15m or allow it to be structured in a way that would mean they don't have to commit to the full fee now (I know it would be paid in installments anyway), such as if Grant scores 10 goals, etc.
