Huge summer
Issues
1. Chairman Phil
2. Time
3. Manager
4. Covid
5. Mr Hoyle
6. Challenge to chairman Phil
2. Time
May/ June / July is now a bit of July and August.
Half the time to do all this business.
Mark Devlin and Bromby need to deal with this a lot better than they did than with Simpson debacle (granted that shambles helped unearth a gem - Chalobah the right back)
3. Manager
Cowley has turned a club with 1 point in 6 and 1 win in 9 months to a side with a mid table record under him wit a lower half championship squad
He clearly wasn’t happy with the Stankovic position and was under pressure to reduce the budget in January - If Grabara hadn’t been injured my understanding is we’d have done that
Question isn’t whether we should sack him (goodness me) it’s whether he wants to stay
1. Chairman Phil
May 2019: “The reality is I wouldn’t be doing this if I couldn’t afford to do it....if I didn’t have the personal wealth to invest in the Football Club at this level.
“I know exactly how much money I’ll need to put in in the next 10 years; it doesn’t worry me, it’s not daunting or a concern”
July 2019: “We are comfortable, we will be profitable in the Championship”
July 2019: Re If Mooy, Kongolo etc went late in the window, what would you do? “There would have to be some very big bids. We don’t need to sell anyone and I don’t see anyone matching our valuations at the moment” ...And... “ But we don’t have to sell anyone.”
Since then we’ve sold Billing, Zanka and Mooy. We bought Toffolo and added likes of Campbell, Simpson to the wage bill
And the manager was under pressure to reduce the wage budget in January when a number of ins / outs on loan (& ESR loan fees etc)
4. Covid
Football finances are hit - loss of match day revenue.
But thankfully we sold £25m of players we didn’t need to sell per Chairman Phil. Worry not... oh we couldn’t afford to offer Stankovic a contract
5. Mr Hoyle
Phil agreed to repay dean £15m this year, £10m Aug-21 and £10m Aug-22. I understand from others on here we agree to repay some of the amount we owe Dean early this year - If correct how lovely of us!
Perhaps Mr Hoyle could agree to be repaid over a slightly longer period, think of it as a few more ‘moments in time’
5. Challenge to Chairman Phil
We sold £25m of players since after saying we didn’t have to sell anyone.
We have to give a proportion of that to Cowley to bring in 5/6 championship quality players and use the 5 loans available
I’m not asking chairman Phil to put any of the millions he has as he was keen to tell us he has ready to invest... and not all the funds from the players we didn’t need to sell some of which will need to help with Covid impact
Over to Chairman Phil* ...
(*or if what you said last season wasn’t entirely correct now is the time to set expectations not pretend we have a top 6 squad on paper)
