aslong as we have some strong defenders I really don’t see the issue. There’s more to winning a ball in the air than being taller than the opponent Care to explain this theory that shorter players can win the ball in the air? your right Mounie depoitre billing all won there headers vs shorter players, our cbs always win all the headers vs smaller opposition attackers. Let’s build a team of 7ft players and we can’t lose. A smaller player has never put pressure on someone going up for a header, put them off making a good connection or directing the header it’s ALL about size guys! The most important thing is who’s head touches the ball first. Whoever gets more headers in wins the game.

It's not about the ball long and all that. Physical strength in a footballer is asset, Sadio Mane is small but you never see him get brushed off the ball, he is physically like an ox. Presence comes in different guises, nothing wrong with putting it about a bit.

It’s sounding like this is a free transfer (with add ons). When you look at our signings it’s obvious Phil has to pay for new players himself. At some point we are going to have to actually pay for a player. if we had paid a million for him, would you be happier? Nope he’s not a player i would have wanted, i don’t think he’s good enough. But when you realise the only players we can sign are freebies we’ve actually done well to get a Championship player.

Not sure it's the best thought experiment. At Sunday league level, the big team wins. In a murderball training session I suspect the shorter team would win. In the champions league final? draw.

Don’t care how tall he is. Local lad, academy and former first team player. Shame there’s no fans in the stadium to welcome him back at the first home game.

If Rooney thought Duane would be of ANY use in a relegation battle he would have kept him , the fact he doesn’t should tell us something It speaks far greater volumes about his ability (or lack thereof) as a manager, more than anything else.

Derby need to trim their wage bill, presumably so they can afford Rooney. Can’t be many £90kpw managers in the second tier...

Was "unable" to train with the squad this morning..... That will be because he will still have to provide a negative Covid test result before he is allowed to mix with our players. Even though he's come from another 'sporting bubble', we'd be stupid to risk anything at this stage - especially with the way Derby manage to flout the rules at every opportunity. I was talking about Pritchard potentially moving.

Bullock had some springs. I had not realised Bullock was a clockwork player, or is this just a wind up!

Obviously, it's not all about size (that's what I keep telling the Mrs anyway) but we have struggled for a couple of years now defending set pieces & competing with & breaking down physical teams. We DO need to become physically stronger.

“That’s ridiculous, another 700K write off for the only successful permanent transfer brought in by Lampard.” and “Absolute joke of a club at the moment. Ridiculous.”
it's funny how some Derby fans were going to drive him here t'other day and now it's come out he was a free others are not as impressed with the transfer.

It's done just waiting to be announced later today Any chance of you announcing a 20 million double swoop by someone for Pritchard and diakhaby or is that wishful thinking?

So many side's in the Championship have a physical presence but big player's take longer to turn because of their size, so if you have a smaller player with a bit of trickery! you have an asset. A 6ft 5inch defender will out jump a 5ft 7inch player all the time unless you are spring heeled Jack.

Can anyone name a single number 10 in world football who is over 6 foot tall?
From Maradona to Messi, Maddison to Alli, Firminho to David Silva, they are all under 5’10’’ and play in a less agricultural manner than we seem to want our number 10 to.
It’s such an archaic argument.
(I know the aforementioned may not all wear the number 10 but that tends to be where they play).

Since this recent growth spurt he’s been nowhere near the Spurs squad.

Kevin Francis could have played as a number 10 in the Scottish league. And yet he’s played more Champions League group games and also played more World Cup group games than our whole squad combined. Whatever you want to say about the Scottish game, well crack on, but you can’t take away that he’s played at a decent level.

For the record, I also don’t think Dele Alli grew 8 inch during pre-season.

Then signed for Brum. Always shouts of ‘freak’ whenever we played against him.
