Huddersfield Town’s 1-1 home draw with Birmingham City on Tuesday, 2 March 2021 was disappointing though, perhaps, it should not have occasioned surprise in the light of our history. The last home league win we achieved over them was on 8 October 1996. Since then we now have a 1-8-4 home record in all competitions! Both teams made good passing movements but both, at times, seemed crippled by fear that prevented much in the way of outright attacks. Fraizer Campbell's excellent goal, fired in first time on the half-volley from the edge of the box, motivated the Blues to turn up the gas but, after they had equalized, the match settled back to sterile midfield passing. Undoubtedly, the visitors had the best of the chances which, in itself was disappointing. The positives are limited. Richard Stearman, who was prepared to get into the goal area for set pieces, had a good game considering he is not yet fully match fit and Juninho Bacuna played much better than recently, though that is a very low bar!
Huddersfield have now only won once in 11 league games. Because of this result, Town go into the next round of Championship fixtures remaining in 19th in the division with 37 points from 34 games. We are now eight points above the drop zone, though Rotherham United, in 22nd, have three matches in hand.
On Friday, 5 March 2021, KO 19:45, we continue our league campaign at home to Cardiff City. This match will be purchasable on iFollow for £10 and it will be free to season card holders. It will be the Sky Sports Football and Main Event featured game. The referee selected for this match is Tim Robinson.
Huddersfield have a poor recent history at home to Cardiff. The last league win we achieved here was on 25 January 2003. Since then we have a 0-3-3 home league record! Our last home clash was on 12 February 2020 when we lost 3-0, under Danny Cowley. First-half goals from Josh Murphy and Will Vaulks gave the Bluebirds a commanding half-time lead that the Terriers rarely looked like threatening. Callum Paterson put matters beyond doubt midway through the second half.
We last played Cardiff, in the reverse encounter, on 1 December 2020 when we lost 3-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium through Kieffer Moore's double and a Robert Glatzel strike. Town had their usual two-thirds possession but the hosts were the better team in both boxes.
In 2019-20, Cardiff finished 5th in the Championship but were eliminated in the Play-off semi-finals by Fulham. This season they exited the Carabao Cup, in the first round, at the hands of Northampton Town! They were beaten 1-0 in the FA Cup 3rd Round, at Nottingham Forest.
Since Mick McCarthy took over, as manager, Cardiff have had seven wins, three draws and no losses! Following their 4-0 home thrashing of Derby County, on 2 March, the South Wales outfit are in 6th place in the Championship with 53 points from their 34 matches.
Under their new management the Bluebirds are looking almost unstoppable. With Ryan Schofield, who now seems to totally lack confidence and who can’t cope when surrounded by opposing players, likely to be pressured, I cannot see any result other than a comfortable Cardiff win.
Man to watch: Sean Morrison (shirt 4), 30, centre-back who has scored with headers in two of his club’s last three matches. He played on loan, from Reading, for Town in 2011-12.
Latest PP odds:
Town: 23/10 Draw: 23/10 Cardiff: 11/10
11/10 against Cardiff looks a very big price.

11/10 on Cardiff is printing money, they shouldn't be priced over evens, evens would be generous as well.
Given Cardiffs upturn in form under McCarthy I can't see anything other than a comfortable Cardiff win. We're turgid, uninspiring, uninventive and just damn right poor all over the park.
I just hope Wednesday and Rotherham play out a 0-0 draw tonight.

Everything points to a defeat. So don’t be surprised if we nick a win...!

When is Hogg back? Fancy us to get something for some reason despite everything pointing to a big defeat. We must be due a bit of luck or dodgy decision at some point too.

McCarthy has got Cardiff well organised and not losing, clean sheets too. Derby had 73% possession last night and one shot on target. Cardiff sat back and let Derby pass it around for three quarters of the game confident they couldn't hurt them and picked them off clinically. It must have been like watching Town dick about going sideways and backwards all night. Anything can happen as they say, it did against Swansea but really, we are in a terrible state at the moment and I see nothing but at least a three goal defeat. They will probably score from every dead ball lumped into the box.

Town seem to be getting worse game by game, last night saw a nervous unsure and error ridden show..I lost count of the possession we gave away, the passes that sailed nowhere...seldom have I seen such a feeble effort. Worryingly that appears to be Carlos's answer to the previous shambles at Preston. Cardiff on the other hand have reversed their fortunes by sacking their manager and are unstoppable it seems. Add in the fact they always seem to thrash us I fear the worst...I'd almost settle for 0-3 but fear it will be much worse than that...
Our players look lost, unsure and indecisive..too many faint hearts...confidence in what they're told to do has been lost and the manager has no answer other than more of the same....
Troubled times....

Last time out at home...
Town were humbled at home once again on 12th February by Play-Offs chasing Cardiff City who provided an object lesson in how to play on the counter-attack. As usual, Fatty Tomlin did the damage.
I foresee nothing but an absolute drubbing by a team that knows the way to goal and which will be far too strong all over the pitch for our bag of cripples.

How we've managed to get into such a state is pretty disheartening (to go from PL to seemingly the poorest club in the division), but just hoping for a big performance and/or a bit of luck at some stage.

we're going to get smashed by the looks of it. McCarthy and his organised side against Carlos and his disorganised mess.
Watch us win now.

Hopefully a couple of players back & a freak result required. No ‘significant’ players back as far as I am aware. Don’t think Cardiff will be taking many freak results the rest of this season. On a good run, organised and confident. Pretty much the opposite to us I’m afraid.

Towns international break starts 3 days earlier than the rest of the Championship teams, after this game we have QPR & Sheff. Wed away then resume on Good Friday at home to Brentford then Easter Monday away to Norwich, with our awful current form continuing to show no signs of improving dramatically (even with the Swansea display), will the board stick with CC or make a change? Do they want to make a change? Will Carlos be with us regardless next season?...........Or could Cardiff be his last home game??

Cardiff are on a great run, we - not to put too fine a point on it - are not. They also play the style of football that we struggle against most - so even if we were in our best form of the season & them in their worst, this would be a tough fixture.
I've accepted that we're going to lose this one, and heavily. Forget settling for a point. I'd settle for just not having any more injuries afterwards, and fingers crossed for results elsewhere to go our way.

Is anyone likely to be back? Much as it looks on form like a win for them, I still think we have it in us to win. By the looks of the Derby stats they will let us have the ball so we have to take our chances when we get them and then hope for a better defensive performance.

Sorba Thomas bagging another 2 assists within the first 40 mins for the B team.
Looks like we have a decent playmaker who yet again isn’t getting any minutes in a shit first team. Play him ffs!

In the interview with Oggy after the match Carlos looked like a man who had been told to forget his footballing philosophy and just get points anyhow For Friday try play in their half not ours and if like last night players that are at the edge of the opponent’s area play the ball back that ends up going to Schofield or take a free kick backwards sub them straight away get playing with some passion UTT

I'm sick of seeing us get to the edge of the opposition's penalty area (usually out wide) then turn back and go the other way. Then it's either across to the other side to do it all again, or full on retreat mode back to our keeper. It's not entertaining to watch. It's predictable. It's dull, risk aversion football. Despite his performances dropping off a bit before he got injured, I honestly think we're missing Eiting a hell of a lot here.

We've gone from one extreme to the other. We've gone from passing the ball sideways & backwards in our own half until the forward pass is given to the opposition to pissing around with it at the back then just aimlessly lumping the ball forward to Campbell who has zero support around him.
Morrison will just dominate at the back playing the same tactic against Cardiff.
Corberan hasn't got a clue.

Already written this one off, best we can hope is that after this weekend’s fixtures we’ve still got at least a 5 point gap to relegation places.
