Huddersfield Town’s 0-0 draw with Rotherham United on Saturday, 10 April 2021 looks a useful point obtained in the most fortunate circumstances. We failed to master the basics against committed, but essentially very limited, opposition. It took some excellent keeping by Ryan Schofield, the referee missing a penalty, and fortunately placed woodwork for us to avoid a damaging defeat. Richard Keogh also had a decent game but, as Carlos Corberan said, “we didn't create anything in attack”.
Following this result Town, who have only won twice since the turn of the year, go into the next round of Championship fixtures still in 19th place in the division with 44 points from 40 games. Though we are still eight points above the relegation positions, Rotherham United, in 22nd place, have three matches in hand with a much better goal difference.
On Tuesday, 13 April 2021, KO 17:30, we continue our league campaign at home to AFC Bournemouth. This match will not be on the Sky Sports Football red button. It will be purchasable on iFollow for £10 but it will be free to season card holders. The referee selected for this match is Jeremy Simpson.
This is a frequent fixture and one in which Huddersfield have a reasonable recent history at the John Smith’s Stadium, with a 5-4-3 record, in all competitions, since 1998. Our last home clash was on 9 March 2019 when we lost 2-0, in the Premier League, under Jan Siewert. In that game, the effort and application were there, but the quality wasn't.
We last played the Dorset outfit, in the reverse encounter, on 12 December 2020 when we lost 5-0 at the Vitality Stadium. Carlos Corberan fielded a weakened side that almost conceded the match before it started! This game was a cruise for the hosts with little positive to come out of the 90 minutes.
In 2019-20, Bournemouth finished 18th in the Premier League, ending the season just one point off safety. Eddie Howe promptly resigned after 11 seasons, in two spells, at the helm. This term they exited the Carabao Cup, in the third round, at the hands of Manchester City, after having earlier eliminated Crystal Palace. Bournemouth were beaten in the FA Cup 6th Round, at home to Southampton, having previously disposed of Oldham Athletic, Crawley Town, and Burnley. Following their 4-1 home win over Coventry City, on 10 April, the Cherries are in 6th place with 68 points from their 40 fixtures. It is unusual for an away side to be odds-on for a win but I think that the bookies are right, and I see no basis to predict anything but a defeat. Man to Watch: Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld (sometimes referred to as Arnaut Danjuma and at other times Arnaut Groeneveld) (shirt 10), 24, Nigeria-born Dutch international winger, who joined Bournemouth for a fee of £13.7 million, in August 2019, from Club Brugge. He has scored six times, with also four assists, in the visitors' last six league matches.
Latest PP odds:
Town: 13/5 Draw: 5/2 Bournemouth: 19/20
We are presently 6/1 against being relegated.

Another game where I cant see us getting anything out.
We really need to be MUCH better defensively. We got thumped by Norwich, and we could have easily conceded 3 or 4 with an effort like that against Rotherham,if they had a bit more quality at the finish.
This almost feels like the game against Norwich in that theres no expectations.
Hope we see Rowe in, and in either Vallejo or High in the team as well. I'd like to see Thomas start, plays well just lacking that last ball. Also keen to see Aaron's get back into it.
The less I see of Holmes, the better. Lad was invisible. Bacuna at least started well before disappearing.

A defeat is certain. Not getting slaughtered would be a good result.

A team like Bournemouth could take us to the cleaners like Norwich did but I wouldn’t be surprised if we got something from it as in true typical town style. I wouldn’t back town with anyone’s money to get something from the game though so I’m expecting another loss.

Is Pipa another one out now for the rest of the season?
Just thinking back to how well we played against Swansea, playing through the channels, lots of movement and passing phases, but we've never played the same way since.?

If we concede now, is it counted as a 2-0 loss? Sounds like a decent result to me.

19/20 for the Bournemouth win looks like printing money.
I can’t see where a goal is going to come from and can see them scoring at least 4.

We have absolutely no chance. Bournemouth need the points for their play off push and town have given up.

Two things are certain, defeat and Billing working a lot harder than his last appearance at the JSS.

A draw v Blackburn away and a win at home v Coventry, can’t see us getting anything else anywhere this season. Might just about be enough (hopefully). Can easily see 0-3 v Bournemouth.

For the first time ever I have voted that we will lose unless we completely change the way we attack I can’t see us threatening them I do want to see Bournemouth players squealing rolling around I want to see plenty bookings and their physio on the pitch longer than Danny Ward Get stuck in UTT

If we get a drubbing here, then surely he's gone. Our away form is awful, but to stop up you at least need a half decent home showing. Should we get dicked here, he's gone and I hope and hope is all I have, Phil has made an enquiry about someone for the short term, to see it through. There aren't many games left, but bring a person in to at least get 2 wins and bring a fresh approach to lift this team. I don't know where our next win comes from until the end of the season. Being Town we will end up winning this, to then paper over cracks and all seems fine for now

Much rests on the fitness of Vallejo. If he is fit, we'll get much more of a foothold on the midfield and stand a chance of doing something. If he isn't, I think we're in for a long evening.

After the last few weeks I’m dreading this one. I’ll watch it to keep up my record of watching every game , but for the first time this season I’ve lost all of my positivity.

Many more are in the same boat as you Overton, this has been really hard to take being a town fan. At this stage of the season all we can ask is a team going out and giving their all, but with a sense of purpose. Yesterday was poor from every angle, and is simply not good enough. I was confident a month or so back that we would find a bit of winning form, especially against the teams around us, but that theory soon evaporated. All down now to a final push in these last six games, hoping just for once these so called players finally decide to show some pride and bottle to give us the fans something to shout about!

I think the spine of the team picks itself. Yesterday’s back three and goalkeeper are the best we’ve got. O’Brien, Hogg, Vallejo are our best three in the centre of the park. Sanogo up front, for the pressure-releasing long ball from the back, where necessary. That just leaves the second striker and the wing backs to worry about. I’d go for the “one half each” solution there....instructions, 90 minute’s effort in 45 minutes, please. Unless there’s a tactical need to go earlier or later. Right, Aarons, then Thomas Left, Brown, then Rowe Second striker, Campbell, then Ward. These guys might all have a bit of motivation to put the effort in and show they can play. Unlike Mbenza, Bacuna, etc, who are just winding their contracts down.

This is not like you, keep your chin up. Sport is fickle and form can improve as well as get worse. Yes we probably will lose but you never know and with a few key players coming back we should see some improvement. We're better against teams that can play.
