Huddersfield Town’s 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, 17 April 2021, just their third win in 20 league matches, was a big step forward in the battle for survival. Having Pipa and Harry Toffolo back immediately gave better balance and shape to the side. The Terriers had to survive a torrid opening 15 minutes when Forest’s formidable strike force were in a full cry but, having failed to break through in that period, that seemed the signal for several of the host players to head for the beach! Town quickly assumed an ascendancy that they never lost and the well-taken goals were the least that Town deserved.
Following this result, Town go into the next round of Championship fixtures up to 18th place in the division with 47 points from 42 games. Now eight points above the relegation positions, the gap has stretched with Rotherham United, in 22nd place, who have three matches in hand and who have a much better goal difference.
On Wednesday, 21 April 2021, KO 19:45 we continue our league campaign at home to Barnsley. This match will be on the Sky Sports Football red button. It will be purchasable on iFollow for £10 and it will be free to season card holders. The referee selected for this match is David Webb.
This is a fairly frequent fixture and one in which Huddersfield have a reasonable recent history at the John Smith’s Stadium, with a 5-2-2 record, in all competitions, since 1999. Our last home clash was on 26 October 2019 when we won 2-1 under Danny Cowley for the Terriers’ sixth game out of a seven game unbeaten run. Christopher Schindler and Karlan Grant scored either side of the break. Despite a Jacob Brown consolation goal the team coped with the visitors’ attempt at a comeback and managed the game out with intelligence.
We last played the South Yorkshire outfit, in the reverse encounter, on 26 December 2020 when we lost 2-1 at Oakwell in a game where attempts at playing football were hampered by strong winds. On 13 minutes, Rarmani Edmonds-Green had put Huddersfield in front with his first goal for the club, turning in Carel Eiting's cross. But Michal Helik scored twice, including a 94th-minute winner.
In 2019-20 Barnsley, finished 19th but just a point off the drop. This term they exited the Carabao Cup, in the third round, at Chelsea, after having eliminated Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough. They were beaten in the FA Cup 5th Round, at home to Chelsea, having previously progressed with victories over Tranmere Rovers and Norwich City. Following their 2-0 win at home to Middlesbrough, on 10 April, the Tykes are in 6th place with 71 points from their 41 fixtures. It is rare indeed that our near-neighbours go into one of these clashes as favourites. With two wins and a draw in their last three fixtures they are in decent form. Notwithstanding the clinical way that we felled the Trees, I think that we are likely to slip to a narrow loss this time. Man to Watch: Daryl Dike (shirt 10), 20, United States international striker. On 1 February 2021, Dike joined Barnsley on loan until the end of the 2020–21 season, from Orlando City, with a reported $20 million option to buy and 20% sell-on fee clause. He has scored eight goals in the visitors’ last 11 matches and is already attracting significant interest from Premier League clubs.
Latest PP odds:
Town: 5/2 Draw: 9/4 Barnsley: 11/10
We have lengthened dramatically to around 16/1 against being relegated from 10/3 before the match.

I'm sensing a draw here, or a narrow defeat however I think we'll be up for the game.
I'd go with Schofield Pipa Stearman Sarr Toffolo Hogg Bacuna Rowe LOB Aarons Ward
BENCH Keogh REG Brown Koroma Holmes Thomas Sanogo/Phillips Pereira High
I was calling to drop Bacuna, but he did well in that last game, so retains his place but if he doesn't show up for the first half, then sub him.
I'm assuming Campbell won't be able to play due to his shoulder, that was probably Wards best game for us since he came back so I'd give him the nod.
Keogh had too many early mistakes, I feel if we were against a better team then we may have conceded a couple. To be fair, he improved as the game went on, and was vocal as well but maybe he needs a break?
I'd love to see Koroma get some minutes in
*I didn't take into account Vallejo or Eiting to return

We know what to expect on Wednesday night, the OOOP and UNDER from Barnsley..They'll kick off by booting the ball into touch by the corner flag, push up and try and box us in. It'll be long throw ins into the box, hoofs from full backs into the box..Hardly the sophisticated classical football Carlos employs but admittedly, effective like Wimbledon used to be...
So as we enter into 'throw back football' from what used to be admired as a footballing side, how do we combat this. We can't sit back and fanny around outside our own box..I nearly had a heart attack watching the first 20 mins at Forest as we stuttered and misplaced passes, Keogh looked like he'd never played before, and Pipa inviting them to on to him while stood at the edge of our box does my head in.. I hope we have Sanogo available for this game because it's not going to be pretty...

I hope we have Sanogo available for this game because it's not going to be pretty... For me, there are very few teams, in the top 4 divisions of English football, that can play the way the best teams in the world play. Sure, in an ideal world you’d want your team to be pinging the ball around, retaining possession and scoring well worked ‘team’ goals regularly. However, there comes a level when players just aren’t good enough to play that way and that level, in my opinion, is mid Championship level at best. Does every manager interview for a job claiming to strive for attractive play like is fashionable today? You’ve got to play to the players’ strengths, not ask everyone to play like Barcelona in their pomp. A good manager knows how to mix it up, adapt and grind it out where necessary. I’d rather have that type of manager than someone who scratches their head wondering why their system of play isn’t working for their current players, but continues with it anyway. The whole passing it around the ‘keeper and defenders, who aren’t good enough to do that is just as infuriating as hitting it long every time to a 5’ 10” striker. Play to you’re strengths, pretty or not.

Think defeat. Be nice not to lose but think Barnsley have too much to play for. Hope I'm wrong mind.

Might be the game to select players based on height! Hopefully Sanogo is fit to act as a focal point for the attack so we don't have to 'fanny about' at the back - because they will chase us down. Stearman would be useful and so would Vallejo, but I'm not sure Vallejo would want to be heading too many balls after his concussion!

I’ve gone for a draw but wouldn’t be surprised to see us win, the 3 points against forest were massive not just in terms of the league but also taking pressure off the players. We may now see a little bit more of the football from earlier of the season with players returning that allows him to revert back to that style.

I agree that Barnsley have a lot to play for and will scrap like hell, but TBH I've not been impressed with what I've seen of them. It can't all be down to luck - they are clearly where they are based on ability, but I've seen several better teams than them this year. Town win.

Would be surprised if we are allowed to play much football by Barnsley! Will be a big physical challenge for Town, they tend to play 'bits & pieces football.' - UTT.

As fans we all tend to look for guides from previous games and it’s such a flawed process - I fully understand the thinking in hoping Reading can’t make the play offs when we meet them, but that doesn’t mean we win. Look at Bristol City yesterday, can’t go up or down, “nothing” to play for, away at a team fighting to stay up but with 10 men they claim a late point. Likewise saying Barnsley don’t look much, ask a Fulham fan the worst team in the league when we got promoted and they’ll probably say Town.

Danny Ward isn't or shouldn't be starting. When he does, he's absolutely garbage. He's a decent impact player in my view. Physical approach may help, even though they score the same amount of goals, I'd have Sanogo playing if fully fit. Ward is too lightweight on his own up top for Barnsley

Ward is too lightweight As a lone striker he is, eating department he isn't. Against their defenders he isn't gonna be winning headers or play the hold up game.

Would be more than happy with a draw in this fixture. Barnsley a very decent (if agricultural) side this year with a lot to play for.
Same side as started vs Forest, with Ward for Campbell. Sanogo might have started for me if fit, but wasn't on the bench yesterday so that suggests he won;t be available.

Local Derby and Town will be on a high after yesterday's result. Add to that the potential return of Koroma and Eting and we can piss all over these.
Had an excellent second half of the season and they have really grown in confidence but man for man when we have our 1st 11 out we can easily match them.

They're currently getting beaten by Coventry. Could be good or bad for Town. Might put them under pressure and make them nervous, or get them to react positively. Either way, Town will still need to play well to get a result.

Presumably Coventry had fans who didn't think they could win. Like the soft bastards that didn't think we could beat NotsForrest(sic).

In terms of momentum it's good that Coventry beat them today, will be a tough game but if we play like we did against Forest we will get something. I'm not aiming for a draw, but it wouldn't be disaster.
