Be interesting to see if Carlos prefers a striker than runs around a lot,or one that puts the ball in the net

3 Years...... wow
That’s some nostalgia signing from Big Phil.
Do I think he’s a good signing.... NO Is it an exciting signing.... NO Will it make me buy a season ticket.... NO Am I looking forward to his lack of work rate...NO
The main problem that I have with that signing is someone in the recruitment team has actually signed off on him being able to do a job, That makes me sceptical for the other business we do this summer.
We still need a first and second choice striker in my eyes, so a 3 year contract is madness

If he's half as prolific as he was in his last spell he'll be twice as prolific as any of our other strikers He may well be twice as prolific as any of our other strikers. Wouldn’t take much really But what else will he bring to the game or is scoring all we’re concerned about

I feel ill. I honestly thought PH was being genuine when he said we were learning from our mistakes. 3 year contract? Does PH just have a hard on for bringing back his favourite players or is our recruitment team that fucking bad we just phone up players we have the number for? Originally I was not going to renew for this season, and look again next summer, but I shall be replying to the 4 letters I got asking me to renew, and explain that I wont be contributing towards a retirement home for ex players, and to release my 4 seats. £3600 over the next 3 years is far more welcome in my pocket.

Next season our 3 pronged attack of Campbell, Ward & Rhodes will have a combined age of 105.
Over the past 2 seasons between them they have played 202 games and scored 33 goals.
That’s an average of 1 goal every 6 games.
Great stuff!

Can't even begin to argue with your two points. ....but can you justify a THREE year contract? .....because I'm struggling and after Danny Ward / Duane Holmes I'm beginning to wonder if the approach is correct? PS ...Of course a massive wage cut has had to be involved as well.... If it’s either loads of money that uses up a big part of the budget combined with a short contract, or reasonable money that fits with what we’ve budgeted over a longer deal, which do you prefer? TBF (although I'm quite pleased he's back because I'm a soft stupid sentimental old sod who has his hero's) I don't think he's worth more than reasonable money on a short contract. Certainly shorter than three years. ....& TBH I'd be AMAZED if he could have got a better contract anywhere else.

I'm unsure about this he hasn't scored double figures since 2015/16. And it isn't though he hasn't been playing regularly, on average 28 games per season.

I fear this will go as well as Theo Robinson’s return did. At least we ‘brought him home’ 8 years ago when he was still in his mid 20s.
Really hope I’m wrong though.

Haha christ. I assume you had no problem paying your season ticket money to pay the wages of wasters like Kongolo, Pritchard, Diakhaby et al, but weirdly have a problem with it going towards the 8th highest goalscorer in our clubs history? Weird

Haha christ. Weird I’m going to get splinters in my arse from sitting on the fence on this one, it seems “odd” to say the least that we are specialising in signing ex players, a year ago the club hailed the arrival of Danny Ward, in general it was greeted by the fans as a bit “m’eh” and I think the best you could claim is it’s not fair to judge him after the first year because he had so many injuries. However a lot who voiced their displeasure would point to the fact that this was predictable, so proves them right. Then Dwayne Holmes arrives with the addition that the boat was pushed out to acquire our main summer target ! That should normally create a bit of excitement with fans but it was if anything even more lukewarm than Ward’s arrival and I would also claim that his performances have been in general seen as disappointing at best. On to today, it’s been common knowledge to most on here for some weeks, it’s probably split opinion more than the other two, plenty are totally opposed, a fair few think it could be a good move but I doubt even his biggest fans would have predicted a 3 year deal ? Returning players often don’t work, Mally Brown and Chris Luketti anyone, although both Buxton and Jackson have succeeded in second spells and Boothy and Peter Butler did so, albeit briefly. I hope it works, he’s on 87 now, Booth is 3rd on the all time Town list on 150, if Rhodes gets 20 a season for the 3 years of his deal he could dislodge him, it’s a massive IF but we would all be happy but the club are going big on the announcement and I doubt it’s going to have the desired effect with season ticket sales, more people are saying they now won’t rather than they now will, not what you want from a big signing.

Reckon it will be one of them that they don't announce for 3-4 weeks because they are too busy coming up with some cheesy graphics and videos to announce it. I'm looking forward to his interview where he starts every sentence with 'yeah' in a delicate but enthusiastic way You were not disappointed lpl

If he stays fit and plays regularly starting at least two thirds of the games I think he'll score 20 plus goals. He's a proper goal scorer give him service.

What would folk rather?
Kayden Jackson for £1m or Sonogo/Niasse on extended contracts or Rhodes on a free?
The kid scores goals, has done it for us before. If we give him service he will guarantee us at least 10-15 goals. That’s what we’ve needed for a year or two.
Folk claiming they’ll not renewing season cards because Rhodes has rejoined is unbelievable. I hope he bangs in twenty times to spite you 😂.

He hasn't got double figures at championship level for five seasons. He won't get double figures in a season for us.

The consensus of the fans isn't usually wrong.... We have lumbered ourselves with Rhodes wages for 3 years.
Absolutely ridiculous.... so ridiculous they had to put out a video of his best bits from over 10 years ago, nothing recent,
Big Phil does an interview, talks sense for a change about expensive mistakes.... and then 2 days later signs off on this fucker.
I hope in 3 years time someone has the time to scroll back and say "look how wrong you were.... as we are 9th in the prem and Rhodes has just scored the winner in the FA Cup final" can't see it though. I've watched him once to know he's not what is needed now... how can a scouting department get it so wrong.

Rhodes instrumental in the goal versus Rotherham that kept Wednesday up, for a little while longer. Pretty recent.
Phil takes sense when he talks about mistakes. Really. Makes no sense when he's being positive or upbeat I presume. Thanks for the insight. Helpful.

We’ve arguably just signed one of the best finishers in the football league. Billy Sharp had one of his best seasons when he went back to Sheff Utd and he’s even older!
We (well Quaner) killed Sheff Wed a couple years ago, literally nothing has been positive about that club since and that includes the players. I’m taking his stint there with a pinch of salt. 1v1 you’d back Rhodes to score everytime.
3 year contract does baffle me a bit though..

That’s the thing, he does stay fit and he does score goals. Things don’t work out at other clubs but we know the guys a born finisher. It’s obvious it’s a 3 year deal as he’ll be on lower wages than a 2 year deal, and if he’s here 3 years chances are the 3rd year is more of a coaching/playing role. People love to get upset about anything. Same with Keogh staying, it’s obvious he’s good behind the scenes and will hardly play. Yet ‘Keith 50+ years old from Waterloo’ won’t be renewing his season ticket because we’ve kept him on. Everyone makes mistakes, maybe not to that extent but fuck me get over it. People learn, no matter how old you are.

I like Jordon Rhodes , and in his first spell with us I thought he was excellent. I think many of us were gutted when he left for Blackburn Rovers , the money was obviously the overriding factor, he probably thought (mistakenly) that they were going to be promotion contenders.
Jordon is a competent enough striker but in my view he is not going to be bagging 20 goals a season in the championship. I am a little surprised at the length of the contract , especially after the contract we gave to Ward and his subsequent injury problems.
I don't want to come over as negative, Jordon's return to Huddersfield Town may prove to be a fantastic deal, though I am not totally convinced that at his age he will be as effective as hoped.
