Otium has been vilified for expressing a disgusting opinion on a football forum. Specifically, one that dehumanises decent people. Or to put it another way, a few members of the forum were vilified by Otium because of who they fall in love with. I would say that's far more pathetic.

He has been banned because he repeatedly broke the rules of the forum, despite warning after warning after warning to stop it. And just to clarify, this isn't just the admins who are imposing their tyrannical will upon us. This forum is hosted by Proboards who have every right to shut the forum down if they so wish (e.g. if it becomes a haven for hate speech).

Personally I'd have kept him on here because aside from the disgusting stuff he can be quite an entertaining character & when on form he added a lot to the page. I suspect (although cannot confirm) that we weren't in imminent danger of having the forum pulled. Plus, he ain't going to be posting for long either -

but....

I can totally understand why the admins took the decision they did.

I don't mind the guy. I don't take what we says too seriously and I don't find that his posts wind me up like they seem to do with so many other people on hear.

I think that if we can just give him a three day ban every now and then and possibly prevent him from replying to posts so that they don't drag on and on and bore the rest of us we should be able to live with him.

It appears to me that this Otium chap is a bit marmite. Deffo a "like or loathe" scenario. Having been around other chat boards I have seen his like before and I found the ignore/block button very easy to press. That said on certain occasions the time to or say nothing was not an option. This was I am afraid one of them.

Reading some of Otiums posts there seems to be a fair smattering of joviality , wordly views (he does appear to have done a lot in his 50+ years) but I also see a much darker side,  where I think sometimes he posts to get a reaction and when none are forthcoming he pushes the envelope a little further. As in life,  some people crave attention, as they are lacking in other areas despite their best efforts to "big" themselves up on a chat board. To me as a rookie on the board,  this is what Otium has tried to do.

However,  his final comment which lead to a ban,  overstepped the mark by a long way. I am surprised that such a erudite chap,  that he appears to be,  would even consider such a post. A fataol mistake so it seems and one that perhaps deep down he now regrets. 

The question now for the Admins is this (and it is a difficult and thankless one) - having had what appears to be  numerous reports over the years and  a great amount of leniency on their part,  do they allow him back ?

Would this not then open a case for others to be allowed back as well......I seem to see the poster called Nick mentioned a few times.

Life is full of difficult choices. Otium knew the rules and for me was playing a little on the "not long left now" card which he mistakenly took as a free pass to post horrendous views on a open forum. I wish him all the best for the time he has left and I sincerely hope he regrets deeply what he posted. Perhaps in the long run he can spend his diminishing hours enjoying life outside this forum than trying to be contentious within it.

Hi Guys - Just to allay fears - am sitting in my three bed roomed semi in Oakes. I use a VPN (the clue is in the name) as there are too many prying eyes on the www to make it a secure place these days.
Can allay fears that I am not Otium ! - so fear and paranoia can end there.

Just moved into the area and settling down until I move on again when my contract expires. Hopefully will get a few games in this season - might even get to meet a few of the posters in person over a pie and a pint.
