A good decision to ban someone so explicitly racist and homophobic. Of course, we all wish him well in terms of his psychological and physical health. All in all his views are so backwards and destructive that they turn a safe space such as a forum into an unsafe and threatening place. The ban is justified. Well done admins. You need to look on some of the other football forums. Get a grip Wow that's like saying - other homophobes are worst - please explain |

The most ironic thing for me is that I side with Grim in every debate/argument/slanging match that he has with Oti. I enjoy their verbal jousting but I never take it too seriously. It is two Town fans on a rather obscure football forum having an online tear-up. It doesn’t affect the World, things are said and life moves on. If we want to get hot under the collar or really call out racists, liars and wankers, then we have enough ammunition with the current Cabinet.
My primary issue is with the timing. It feels wrong in so many ways. Why now? It was always going to be contentious and puts the admins on an immediate back foot. Oti is clearly gravely ill and surely the most gracious, sensitive and common sense approach would be to let nature take its course.
I pretty much disagreed with everything Oti posted but I enjoyed his contributions on here. He’s probably my favourite poster. Similarly, I have friends in real life with horrendous views on life, terrible habits and questionable toilet issues that are, and will remain, friends for life.
I think there is a need to stop taking everything so seriously. Fuck the rules and show compassion. Ultimately, there will be no winners in this debacle.
Clearly, life is too short.

He wasn't racist. He was extremely critical of one particular religion.. that isn't being racist! Have you ever read his posts about followers of other religions from that part of the world? Clearly not, or maybe you'd understand the distinction. In terms of homophobia, very old fashioned but even today his thoughts echo most religions'. Largely horseshit in my view, but views held by most of the world population nonetheless. Who are the admins on here to say he isn't allowed to have those views? And what difference does it make if he does? If its so unacceptable then shut down the churches and the mosques and make it truly unacceptable! This is a disgraceful level of censorship , prompted by one admin's personal hatred for a poster after years of mud-slinging at each other. I respect the admins for the job they do, but they should be embarrassed about doing this IMO. DATM is certainly a poorer place without Otium. A 'poorer place' in what sense? A poorer place without his views, whether I agree with them or not. Without his anecdotes ( whether I believe them or not ). Just generally without his input. Probably the most entertaining poster on DATM. They're be a few pleased there's one less person around to challenge their views I suspect. |

The worst bit about the post that got Oti banned isn't that he labelled homosexuals as "deviant". I mean, that isn't great in itself, but to call it a "poor lifestyle choice"...deary fucking me. When was being gay ever something anyone did out of choice? There will definitely be gay people on this forum, 100% Some may not have even found the courage to open up about it yet. Why would they want to when they see people are still able to spout that shit, as well as also having a hoard of angry gammons championing their cause to do so? Otium's dreadful health situation is entirely irrelevant, as awful as it is and how wonderfully stoic he is.
If you have rules they must apply to all.
If you disagree with the rules you can make an argument for change.
My view is there is no room for prejudice be it casual, justified by debate or hidden behind humour. I like to think, whether it is accepted or not, we all know what is right and what is wrong.

How about we just have this as a football forum. Get rid of off topic/politics or any other not about Town. I use this forum because I am a Town fan. There are plenty of places to go rant about all the other stuff.

A character and great contributor to this forum. Mind you, society doesn't want or allow characters these days, just conform, follow the masses and agree with what is topical and politically correct.
That way you won't fall foul of anything or anyone.

This board (Talk of the Town) is the dedicated football forum, whereas the other boards are for those of us you wish to discuss other topics with like minded folk. You don't need to go there, just stick to the football forum. The reason we're discussing Oti on here is because plenty of folk wouldn't have been aware of his banning otherwise. |
