Admin starts a thread asking how we stop racism in football and general - Education is deemed the answer. Couple of days later they're banning 'racists' from the forum. Priceless. The same admin who's repeatedly called the soon to be banned poster a 'c***'. And the denied calling someone a c*** is against the rules ffs

The act of being homophobic is not the dislike of what they get upto behind closed doors ffs You're either homophobic or you're not, really. Someone who's not homophobic, I would suggest, wouldn't even think to use the phrase "what they get up to behind closed doors".

They can have whatever views they want. My point is this board is called Down At The Mac. That is what our stadium used to be called and the forum was setup for fans to have a place to discuss all things Town. It has morphed into this ‘all things to all people’ place and my preference would be for it to return to its original format. I don't see what your problem is. This board (Talk of the Town) is the dedicated football forum, whereas the other boards are for those of us you wish to discuss other topics with like minded folk. You don't need to go there, just stick to the football forum. The reason we're discussing Oti on here is because plenty of folk wouldn't have been aware of his banning otherwise. My point is I am interested in Otium’s opinions on football. I don’t often agree with them and many of his posts seem to be done just to stir things up when he is bored. His posts were often bigging himself up and strayed into his gambling and lifestyle but if based generally around football I was OK with that, although in truth I found many of them quite sad. However,I don’t see why this forum has to go beyond that and if this outcome is a result of that it doesn’t seem to be something worth maintaining.

How about we just have this as a football forum. Get rid of off topic/politics or any other not about Town. I use this forum because I am a Town fan. There are plenty of places to go rant about all the other stuff. So Town fans are not able or allowed to have political views or social values - a bit one dimensional dont you think? You can. As long are they are left wing and very liberal

The worst bit about the post that got Oti banned isn't that he labelled homosexuals as "deviant". I mean, that isn't great in itself, but to call it a "poor lifestyle choice"...deary fucking me. When was being gay ever something anyone did out of choice? There will definitely be gay people on this forum, 100% Some may not have even found the courage to open up about it yet. Why would they want to when they see people are still able to spout that shit, as well as also having a hoard of angry gammons championing their cause to do so? How weak and pathetic do you think homosexuals are? That they're so pitifully delicate that they'd read the views of some nobody on some obscure part of an obscure internet site,,, views that none of the other users on the obscure site agree with him about,,, and having done that they'll be so upset and worried about coming out that they'll probably think better of it? You've got a lower opinion of gays than Otium has if you see them like that. And 'gammons' is an insulting term about peoples skin colour... just saying like. I've been trying to stay out of this because I hate the pointless mud slinging of the "political" parts of this site. However I feel like this needs to be called out. People are harmed by being told, repeatedly, that who they love makes them "deviant" or a "pervert". People spend years hiding who they are from the people around them for fear of comments exactly like that, and carrying something like that can eat away at them. Ultimately discrimination, alienation and bullying leads to increased mental health crises, increased likelihood of self harm and ultimately increased rates of suicide. This has been demonstrated by study after study. Oti, or anyone, can think or feel what they want. They can't come on to a public space and vent repugnant views like that, especially after being repeatedly warned. People on this thread have made a lot out of "free speech" but, as has been pointed out, this doesn't entail freedom from consequence. These consequences extend to you and to the people around you. Free speech is a right but also a privilege, and it's incumbent on us to be grown up and to use it responsibly.

He talked a lot of shit, whether it was creating a debate, having obscure or against the grain views and his true or not ramblings regarding his lifestyle and experiences. Take them with a pinch of salt and it was at least entertaining. I hope a lot of the stories are true but if they're not they're not. His views and comments recently do seem to have touched and crossed a line and I'm not sure if that's to do with his current health perhaps and he's sensoring himself less and less. I don't think much harm was being done though, wasn't an "aggressive" poster and don't remember too many occasions of him personally attacking folk. Really don't agree with this at all, considering his health and the fact he was a break from the usual mundane posts (mine included) on here I think it's a really poor decision.

I mean: First off, "if you don't like what being homosexual involves" sounds a lot like the person in question is, well, a little bit homophobic. Did you mean to include the "not"? It'd make more sense that way - but, y'know, it'd be pretty homophobic. Or else every straight man is homophobic by default. What on earth does that bit even mean?

Personally, I’m more disappointed that a worldly man who has travelled to all corners of the globe and had such a rich life could maintain such abhorrent views on ethnicity and sexuality.
We all know their are small minded bigots on here who happily trot out lazy right-wing tropes. Their ignorance could be an excuse for their natural unpleasantness. Otium was different, he was far from ignorant yet still bounded down the path of intolerance and hatred.
It’s a shame he’s gone but it’s a bigger shame he was so aggressively intolerant.

The fact this thread has 6 pages, and bound to have many more, says a lot about Otium.
See also: the poll on another thread. Last I checked, It was 32:28 in favour of Oti not returning.
So, not as clear cut as some initially thought.
He divides opinion, but the admins have let themselves down here.

Some people question why Otium will be missed. Acknowledging the work of Ted. Otium gold 2011
on touring the world...... The best pre-season friendly ever was the Isle of Man. I was carried on to the plane and off it.
There was an army of Burmese bandits who often raided into Thailand. They were 400 strong and led by two 10 year-old twin brothers who were feted as Gods. When the Thai army captured them they were wearing Town shirts.
As for the toilet rolls, i take them from hotel rooms, always have, always will. They are paid for and it saves me having to spend any more time in supermarkets than necessasy
on town players Clarke is the best centre-half i have EVER seen at Town in 40 years of watching.
Rhodes to play in the Prem??? Best laugh i have had all week, some seriously deluded people on here. He is having a hard time in the 3rd Div for Christs sake!!!!
Rhodes and Roberts, two of the poorest headers of the ball i have ever seen. Rhodes won an award for a hat-trick of headers, he may never score another in his life!! Woeful in the air
on football in general Redknapp, lying, under-hand gypo who will NEVER be England manager
on philosophy We discussed Descartes, "Mein Kampf", aboriginal art and the ever expanding universe. There is nothing akin to intellectual superiority. You can keep your class, new money, gym-built biceps. We Titans of intellect know where the power lies
on being a town fan The only time i question my sanity is when i find myself amongst the great unwashed at a Town match!!!
The only reason i sit with the old folks in the dear seats is i am sick of the fools jumping up and down like jack-in-boxes
"We dont carry bottles, we dont carry lead, we only carry hatchets to bury in your head"
I split up with my two pals and we took a third of the upper tier each and turned our backs n the game to conduct the crowd. Fantastic
It was fearsome at Chelsea away that season and i somehow lost half my trousers in a melee
on his home town A crime-filled cess-pit populated by tea-tray headed Kurdistanis
on gambling I was betting with bookies in Austria before you lot had even heard of Easy-jet.
what he spends his huge gambling winnings on In my house there is ONE chair (second-hand) becaause i am not interested in material things. I have never bought a carpet, a curtain or an ornament.
on being a bon viveur I went to a great restaurant in Sheffield before the game and then a private party in Manchester (not Wetherspoons like you plebs)
If your happiness is X-factor and McDonalds crack on
Fish and chips upstairs opposite Johnnys after the game. The rough girl serving always had her jubblys out
Pints of mild for 40p. Sew on badges for your Wrangler jacket.
I was turned away. Wearing a suit and with a girl but i had a shaven head. Told the bouncer i had Leukaemia!
On me Possibly a nice guy but born without a penis

He could have been banned 10 times over with some of the stuff he's said. He's been let off countless times because of his condition, yet he keeps on pushing. There is absolutely no need to post something like this, other than to stir things and beg for attention: Is that what he's been given a ban for?? Jesus wept. I dont agree with it at all but its just his opinion and he's allowed it. Or at least he should be. That opinion is one shared with most of the worlds population I would imagine, certainly in religious parts ( which is most of it ) What happened to just disagreeing with someone? I hear what youre saying, and I think its crap. Now its I hear what yore saying, and I will stop you being able to say it because I think its crap. Silencing of opinions is fascism isn't it? That'll be why the government are banning protesting

Weird fascination with a guy who’s posting history is 50% racist, offensive garbage, and 50% utter narcissistic imaginary bullshit.
Always derailed pretty much any thread he got involved in by making it about something completely unrelated or more often, about himself.
Shouldn't be surprised that he somehow has managed to derail the board again with his ban.
Glad that him and Nick are gone, I can’t be the only one that got bored with DATM because actual “talk of the town” was few and far between whenever those idiots got involved. Well done admins.

If I enjoyed what they do , then I’d do it. So by default I don’t like it. Doesn’t make me homophobic Big difference between something not being to your taste, and standing up saying "I don't like this". Which is a loaded statement in itself. "by default I don't like it"; so if something's just not for you, you have to actively "not like it"?

Who pours scorn on DATM? The mouthbreathing simpletons on the Town Facebook groups? Facebook? Oh gawd no - they're even worse over there. Mouthbreathing simpletons is being kind! Twitter; nothing but ridicule and pity. But more so - just Town fans in real life, really. I'm often embarrassed to tell people I'm a member, such is the scorn and disdain. It used to just be the fact that it was seen as overwhelmingly negative from the outside; but more-and-more, it seems to be because it's seen as having lots of members with some....rather outdated views. As ever, it's probably worth mentioning that anyone - member or not - can read every post. Sometimes I get the impression that people don't quite realise how the Internet works. And, y'know, anything you post is there forever. I don't think I've ever told anyone in the real world that I post on here. It's my dirty little secret 😬😃

There are plenty of places to go rant about all the other stuff. I don’t think it’s possible to separate your sport from politics. The two are way too intertwined and to remove the politics sub would just result in more politics chat on the main board. Taking the knee for instance - should that not be discussed, as if it’s not a part of football?

I'm just exploring how far "I don't like it" goes, because I have a feeling it's not like cheese. I've been clear on how appalling I think the word "deviant" is in this context.
