Good it’s available for fans to watch. Hopefully a good workout for all the squad and please absolutely NO INJURIES Town ! It’ll be interesting to see how the club website reports the result /results. If it’s to be one score line and Town (hopefully) scored the winner in the final minute of the third and final match (134 mins) then one might think we’d be in new waters and that penalties would’ve been scrapped to decide after 120 mins. Could be a Golden Golden goal type set up. As much as I didn’t like it it’s amazing that Town were the first UK club to win a match (Golden Goal) this way as well !

Hope we don't ship seven again in another weak-as-piss performance. But we all know that that's not going to happen, don't we?

You just know Hogg will play the full 135 minutes & be running just as strongly in the last minute as he did in the first.

Two daily newspapers show the KO as noon. That's what time Norwich kick off, in the spirit of tradition we're giving them 90 minutes head start 😁

Ironically we’ll be arriving at Dunston Hall, just S of Norwich for about 1pm today. Don’t think I’ll pop along to the game though. Afternoon tea booked for 2pm, I’m sure that will be much more enjoyable!

Norwich to get an injury in the 3rd part of the game, used all their players, borrow Mbenza for 15 minutes, he scores 2 and they bid £4m for him at full time. One can hope

Not sure what you can learn from these games other than the shape Carlos plays and if there is a general coherence. I suppose if we were to concede for fun that would be alarming. I don't see us running a few goals in that's for sure.
The Sheff W game gives a better indication, although it looks like a fixture both teams would prefer to lose.

We are long overdue a League Cup run. Momentum can't hurt and a win is much better for morale. I can't remember the last time we did well in this cup

I can't remember the last time we did well in this cup I would agree, I am not sure the club does....but that's being a bit cynical. The last decent run I can remember, if not the only decent run I can remember (not including the two legged game against Forest in the early 90's) was when we got robbed by Wimbledon and Jeff Winter in the late 90's.

Wasnt Wimbledon the FA Cup or am I on about a totally different game? Can remember the draw in that at ours and beat 3 1 I think in the replay? I do remember very vaguely Arsenal, although that was an early round. I couldn't tell you who we played 2 years ago in this cup though. Be nice to have some sort of run in a cup for a change

I can't get my head around actually wanting to lose.
Friendlies I care only about fitness & experimentation, results are immaterial. Watching them is academic interest only for me. Who is linking up well with who, which players are standing out & giving themselves a good chance of a first team berth.
League Cup? I want us to win. I don't necessarily advocate putting out a massively strong side but even if you're giving fringe players a run out to keep them fresh & promising youngsters a taste of first team football, there's value in progressing in the competition if only for that.
Since our first league match of the season is potentially a 6-pointer I would say we've got extra reason to take the game seriously. Iron out any weaknesses against one of the better sides in the division below (with a couple of new fullbacks who would doubtless love to prove a point) before taking hopefully 3 points in the following fixture.

Be nice to have some sort of run in a cup for a change We did play Wimbledon in the FA Cup (2-2 Tom Cowan header from a corner) but we played them in the last 16 or last 8 at home in the League cup about 1999 I think. We should have had a penalty when Clyde Wijnard was hauled down but Jeff Winter (ref from Middlesborough waved play on - although I seem to remember he later admitted making a mistake). We were beaten late on 0-1, I think Cunningham scored with a long range strike. I am sure there are many who will remember better than me. We played Arsenal around 1982 and got beaten Highbury and again early in the Warnock era (94) and got stuffed 0-5. It was the night Warnock dropped Marsden, Roberts, Onoura etc...I think we might have drawn the 2nd leg 1-1.

Your logic is absolutely correct but look at the shameful way we essentially "threw" games against Bournemouth and Norwich last season. Perhaps it is fairer to say we'd like to win, but we aren't bothered if we lose....like Plymouth in the FA Cup last season. For me it is completely wrong but I am sure we have had that mindset in the past. Setting a game for 1pm on the first Sunday in August hardly seems like attracting people to the game.

Scott Mcdonald playing for them and didn't we end up getting him? Think we got dicked that game too.

Lost 0-1 at home and then 4-0 away. Le Tissier scored all 5 for them. I was in Majorca when we got dicked 5-0 at home to Arsenal. Had my Town shirt on that night and got some merciless ribbing off some gooners fans in the pub we were in. Wankers. Ian Wright hat trick if I'm not mistaken. Then 1-1 at Highbury, with Iain Dunn scoring ours?

For all that I can't understand wanting to lose, I can see the logic of prioritising other things besides a win. Probably most notably in 2017 with resting players before the playoffs - winning those last 2 games was unimportant - preparation for the playoffs was a higher priority. Plymouth - an opportunity to rest ridiculously tired players & give youngsters a game coincided with the beginning of an injury crisis. Hopefully the increase in squad strength & less compressed season means we won't be in THAT bad a situation again this coming season.

How the hell he had so few games for England is still a mystery to me.
