The first interview for the season will be with Gerry Murphy. It will be a two-parter as it would be impossible to do the man justice in just one part. An employee of the club for 21 years between 1988 and 2009 and a very important figure. Was also caretaker manager on three occasions, each occasion seeing him beat a fierce rival. It's one interview I've really wanted to do and it took a bit of work. A lad I know drinks in the Irish Centre, where Gerry also frequents, and he said that he'd ask him for me. A couple of months later he gave me a number and said, "Gerry is up for it but he says he's not a publicity seeker". He was right as well, as when I spoke to Gerry he was incredibly modest about his time at Town and kept stressing that it was important to have a good staff to work with. However, it's right that Gerry is recognised and it's brilliant to be able to put his memories on record for the first time with his first in-depth interview. Can't wait. I always used to edit his stats on FM because they were ridiculously awful. Bastard Manure always kept poaching him though.  |

He lives in the estate in Netherton and used to tell me some amazing stories about Town, Newcastle, Arsenal and drinking with George Best.

Here is the first Heritage Project interview of the 2024-25 season, part one of a two part interview with Gerry Murphy. Gerry needs no introduction to Town fans, whose career spanned 21 years at the club, which included spells as scout, youth coach, assistant youth development officer, youth development officer, Academy manager, director of football development and three spells as caretaker manager. Gerry is a big part of Town's history and it's a delight for me to be able to tell his story.    |

I've been pleasantly surprised at the feedback from the first part of Gerry's interview. Hopefully the second part receives similar plaudits. There's interviews to come from Terry Dolan, Dennis Clarke, Andy May, Mick Fairclough, Daral Pugh and Gary Barnett. I'm working all the time to try and get former Town players/managers/coaches to get involved with the Project and it's quite a task, while there's always a good majority that don't respond, it becomes quite a task to tie people down and get the interviews organised. It's music to my ears when they say, "ring me tomorrow" as it allows me to get it done straight away. As always, I'm trying to get a good blend of "legends"/"fan's favourites" along with more obscure players that some of you will have never heard of. I also aim to interview at least one manager this season that wasn't popular, or enjoyed any success here. I think it's important that we don't just concentrate on the good times, I'd also like to hear from players/managers from the times where it didn't go well. It's probably too early to ask Mark Fotheringham but a lot of water has gone under the bridge since Stan Ternent managed us.....  |

It appears he's serving a 3 month ban, so it'll be abit of a wait until we see the next interviews. I don't buy programmes, so if anyone could still post them in his absence for us tight gets I'd be most appreciative. |

About time admins looked more at those culprits. It's clear to see and nothing is ever done. Especially reading the mental health thread, people should think what they're saying to him as sometimes it's done out of spite and to ignite his argumentative side. They know exactly what they are doing and it isn't fair at all. |

He has a pretty abrasive posting style and doesnt seem to tolerate anyone challenging his views very well at all.
The two things combined tend to earn him the reactions he gets.
No idea what hes been banned for, but if he can tone himself down a bit if/when he comes back, then he'd be a decent poster.

While I agree he can post in a pretty abrasive and inflammatory manner, it does appear SOME posters just follow him to get digs in. I can't remember which poster but they seemed to reply to every single post in a negative way, even when Lee was technically agreeing with them. I also think sometimes he responds in a sarcastic way that (obviously) doesn't come across properly on t'interweb. IMO anyway and I've had a couple of spats with him myself, most notably when he called anyone who voted for Bozo disgusting, no matter their reasons and knowledge of his history of "twisting the truth**". Maybe some posters hold grudges and make an effort to look out for his posts just so they can rile him up, seems that way sometimes. ** Being generous here |
