Must be really nice for them to get together like that after half a century and have their achievement acknowledged by the club. Im sure they'll have great day. Met Franny Firth near where I lived in Mirfield a couple of times before his death a few years ago. His was a sad story and its a shame he isnt around to join his old mates.

Met Franny Firth near where I lived in Mirfield a couple of times before his death a few years ago. His was a sad story and its a shame he isnt around to join his old mates. Since around 2017, a good chunk of that team have been getting together for reunions every few months. I am lucky enough to join them on these occasions, and every time they mention Franny and also Paul Cooper, usually toasting the pair of them. I know that Alan Sweeney and Dave Nichols went to visit Franny not long before he died. It's a sad story, that's for sure. Saturday will be good, as there's a few of the lads that haven't been on the reunions, as some of them live away or haven't been in touch. It's been a massive effort, but we've managed to get 13 of the 16 that played during that campaign, as well as the coach. Sadly, Paul Cooper and Franny Firth aren't with us anymore and I just couldn't find Steve Barrett.

Yesterday, the club played host to a reunion of a group of individuals that played for the club's youth team between 1972 and 1975. The preparation started in August and after discussions with the club about recognising the club's history going forward, one of the suggestions from the Heritage Project was to mark the 50th anniversary of the youth team reaching the FA Youth Cup. All starting from a throwaway comment from Bob Newton about a year ago where he mentioned that the side had never been invited back to the club. It's something I'd wanted to happen for years as well, as I felt that it was about time those players had their day and a little bit of recognition. It's a good story because 45 years after that event, five or six of that team started to meet up again socially after getting back in touch on social media. Mostly instigated by Alan Sweeney, he managed to get the likes of Dave Nichols, Bob Mountain, Martin Fowler, Wayne Goldthorpe and Bob Newton back together for a reunion every few months back in 2017-18. This has since grown a bit and the likes of Lloyd Maitland and Grahame McGifford have become part of the friendship circle again and they're all really good pals. I've been lucky enough to tag along with them to these reunions and have become friends with them all. Anyway, the aim of yesterday's reunion was to get EVERYONE back in the same place to mark the 50th anniversary of that final, but to also mark that three years of success during 1972 and 1975, where they won two Portuguese tournaments, reached the final of the Youth Cup, the semi-final of the Youth Cup and many of them made their first team debuts. The club have been really good, and credit where it's due. They suggested a game and that gave me a date to work with and I then set about tracking down all the players and confirming their attendance. Out of the 15 players that played a part in that Youth Cup run, 12 of them were at yesterday's game. They are; Dick Taylor Alan Sweeney Paul Garner Peter Hart Lloyd Maitland Dave Nichols Bob Newton Martin Fowler Bob Mountain Steve Spriggs Kenny Ward Paul Holmes Sadly, Steve Barrett couldn't be located and Franny Firth and Paul Cooper are no longer with us. Also in attendance were Grahame McGifford, John Dungworth, Brian Young and Graham Aslett, who were part of the youth team the year before. But most importantly, Robin Wray was in attendance, the coach who led them through this massive period of success. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and there were some people there who hadn't seen each other in almost 50 years. Some even went on to the pitch at half-time to get a round of applause, although some preferred to stay in the bar as nerves got the better of them! It was a pleasure to have helped organise such an event and great to see all these people in the same room together after so long. And also a big thanks to Town, they made a group of 60-odd year old men very happy indeed.

Grahame McGifford becomes the latest former Town player to be interviewed by the Heritage Project. McGifford played for the club between 1970 and 1976, and was also at yesterday's match. Read below if you're bothered.

We have nine home games remaining and nine interviews upcoming.
Lou Macari, John Rudge, John Dungworth, Pawel Abbott, Chris Hay, Alan Sweeney, Adnan Ahmed, Graham Cooper and Les Chapman will be the interviewees.
Then after that, who knows? I don't plan to do anymore, but let's see what happens.
The 40+ plus that have been done since 2021 will likely be compiled into a book and perhaps that's a good way to finish it.

Think theyre really good and I like that they arent the obvious people from each era..ie the big names or fans favourites. We kind of know their story anyway already. Its more interesting that theyre players who maybe struggled here or barely made it at all.

Was sick of reading yet another interview where Darren Bullock talks about Brentford. I'd much rather hear the stories of someone that played a few games in the 70s or whatever. My aim was to get the stories out of those players we haven't heard from. I think I've succeeded.

I think EVERYONE would like htafcokay to do a warts-and-all interview with King Colin after what's gone on this season I wouldn't mind one with Jacko too, although there might be only so many questions you can ask about hair gel

I've done Brian Horton and Lou Macari so far, but would love to interview more of the managers. Mick Buxton, Peter Jackson, David Wagner and Neil Warnock in particular. I'd also love to speak to Malcolm Macdonald, Eoin Hand (I know he still has ties to Huddersfield, so if anyone can help), Mick Wadsworth, Gerry Murphy and Simon Grayson. Jan Siewert too, actually. It would be way too soon to approach Danny Schofield, I feel. Same with Mark Fotheringham. But yeah, I'd love to speak to more of the managers in the future if I carry on. And for the record, there will never be an interview with Carlos Corberan, so don't worry!

His current run of results almost mirrors Darren Moore's. 1 win, 5 draws and 2 losses.

I think Siewert might be up for it as he did an interview in 2020 where he was quite complimentary about Town and he was still living in Skelmanthorpe at the start of COVID. I also think Supermac will be difficult, for obvious reasons, as his time here was a disaster. However, it's a long time ago and I have a plan...

The work continues, as ever.
I had a chat with Jimmy Nail last night in Newcastle after his performance at Live Theatre, and passed on some info and photos of his father, who briefly played for Town in 1935. Nice fella.

Played a reserve match and several in the "A" team. He was a professional but didn't make the first team. Later played for Hartlepool United and Frickley.
