I read many great posts, never knowing I'd actually met him until I saw these pictures.... RIP Otium From Wikipedia. Otium, a Latin abstract term, has a variety of meanings, including leisure time in which a person can enjoy eating, playing, relaxing, contemplation and academic endeavors. It sometimes, but not always, relates to a time in a person's retirement after previous service to the public or private sector, opposing "active public life". Otium can be a temporary time of leisure, that is sporadic. It can have intellectual, virtuous or immoral implications. It originally had the idea of withdrawing from one's daily business (neg-otium) or affairs to engage in activities that were considered to be artistically valuable or enlightening (i.e. speaking, writing, philosophy). It had particular meaning to businessmen, diplomats, philosophers and poets.

Does anyone have a younger photo (ideally 1980 ish) of Otium? I've thought for some time he might be a lad I sort of knew from the Supporters club coaches back in the day (before I left Huddersfield). In particular I spoke to this lad in January 1980 on a Friday night in Newport. Not too many of us there that day. RIP Will sort out a pic as he was definitely there that Friday night.

I don’t know about that, if I recall it finished 2.2 that night and there was about 1000 of us there with about 4 bus loads arriving late dropping them off on the main road behind the open end goal. I drove up from Netheravon with 3 other squaddies for the game.

I’m as guilty as anyone for calling him out on his fantasy-laden posts, but he was an entertaining poster and those that actually knew him obviously thought very highly of him. It turns out that I must have been at Colne Valley High School at the same time as him, although I’ve no idea who he was. He’d have been in the 4th or 5th year when I joined in 1978. Any road, Rest in Peace, fella.

RIP Oti We were in a pub near Trafalgar Square the night before the 2017 play off final. I had read on here there would be Town fans around. Sure enough the pub was rocking. I noticed this guy beaming all over his face with the atmosphere. I think he thought we were all tourists and was lapping up all the attention. After seeing his picture that man was Oti a truly larger than life character. Condolences to all his family and friends.

As one of the majority on here who didn't know and never met Oti but took great pleasure in reading his tales - and his tips on gentlemen's shoes - can someone add what was the significance for him of making one last journey to Goa and of being buried there ?

RIP my friend. Met Aaron first in the late 70's/80's long before Oti was "born". Went on many away days with him and Neil & the crew & he was always entertaining. Luxembourg away in the Euro qualifiers was "memorable" to say the least. He always told a great tale but there was always some truth in there if you digged deep enough. His love of travel never left him & his thirst for knowledge never stopped. You will be missed by so many and remembered by all who met you. Fly high my friend UTT

Another one of the lads to go way too young & the gaps in the bars are getting bigger, last saw Oti in Vulcan a couple of years or so back, I agreed with most of his posts really (Billing apart) & he got a bit miffed if you didn't tick the 'like' button, funny that coming from king of the WUMS, he certainly got a few reactions on here many, many times......RIP, you'll be missed.

And I've also just realised that I actually knew Ron of a sort. He was a very close friend of a friend of mine but I hadn't put two and two together. It was only the Goa comments that made me realise.

My sister mated about with his sister at school, realised who he was when we had a chat on here once, only knew him as school kids though, few year older than me.

Otium’s [Aaron/Ronny] Memorial Walk will take place before Huddersfield Town v Millwall on Saturday 29th October. Meeting at the Harold Wilson Statue in St Georges Square at 1330 where there will be a guest speaker, who was a great friend of Ron, giving a speech, before the walk to the Stadium begins at 1345. The match will be dedicated to Ronny, his picture will be shown on screen in his memory occasionally during the day. ALL are welcome to join & celebrate the life of such a TOP guy, BIG TOWN fan, & one of the most interesting man that many knew. share.icloud.com/photos/067m-GY7VsGNU6KrKy74a07MQI’ll attend to show my respects..Turns out we went to college together as 17 year olds. I only did the first year and then left to join the Royal Air Force. It was only when I found out his real name, and saw the photo, that I realised we were on the same course. I didn’t think he would turn out to be such a worldly fella at 17 though 😉
