I was just reading new Wolves boss, Gary O'Neil, comments after the game at Old Trafford last night: "Jon Moss said it was a blatant penalty, and it should have been given - fair play to him, he apologised." "Fair play to Jon for saying it was a clear and obvious error - he couldn't believe that the on field referee didn't give it or that VAR didn't intervene". Now I was a massive advocate for moving on but the irony is extremely bitter this morning. The other question is how on earth did Moss get the job, of essentially policing referees, for the PGMOL? I have been quite impressed by Howard Webb as the head of PGMOL but this appointment is risible. When you consider the comments of respected professionals such as Keith Hackett after Wembley last year it beggars belief Moss was appointed, or perhaps it doesn't. I really do think we have to move on but reading all that left a bitter taste this morning. It also demonstrated how much a "jobs for the boys" lark football actually is. I would never advocate any abuse or unpleasantness towards Mr Moss but I hope if he ever visits the John Smith's in an official capacity he is merely shown to his seat and given a cold cup of tea. Rant over. Thought exactly the same when I just saw this.

"Man Utd 1-0 Wolves: Gary O'Neil says Jon Moss admitted penalty error"
"Wolves boss Gary O'Neil says elite referees manager Jon Moss told him he "could not believe" his side were not given a penalty at Manchester United. The hosts won 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to Raphael Varane's header. O'Neil was furious his team did not get a late penalty when United keeper Andre Onana crashed into Sasa Kalajdzic and failed to make contact with the ball. "Jon Moss said it was a blatant penalty and should have been given - fair play to him, he apologised," said O'Neil. "I have spent a lot of time with him today to understand the new guidelines, trying not to get myself booked in the first game, which I have failed in. "But fair play to Jon for coming out and saying it was a clear and obvious error - he couldn't believe the on-field referee didn't give it and can't believe VAR didn't intervene. "It probably made me feel worse, actually, because you know you are right. I feel worse about leaving with nothing. Live, I was told they didn't think it was a clear and obvious error." Moss, who was appointed general manager of England's elite referees within Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) in April, sought out O'Neil between his broadcast and written media obligations.
It is understood PGMOL chief Howard Webb also contacted Wolves officials after the game to apologise for the mistake.
Simon Hooper was the on-field referee who did not punish the incident while Michael Salisbury was the VAR.
In April, Salisbury was stood down for a game after he did not intervene to award Brighton a penalty in a defeat at Tottenham while also acting as the VAR.
Former leading referee Webb spoke before the season began about his desire to drive up standards and reduce high-profile mistakes.

Corruption or favoritism in football needs axing, 100% guarantee the other way round would be a penalty.

How on earth that wasn't a penalty confuses me.
If the goalie gets as much as a feather touching them, free kick.
Goalie runs out, misses the ball, follows through 2 Wolves players, sending one flying to the floor. No penalty.
That decision was disgusting. ONeill was right to be angered, his yellow should be rescinded.
This is why refs should be hooked up to audio. Hooper should have been made to say the reason it was not a penalty.

Update
The three referees involved - Hooper (on-field), Salisbury and West (both at Stockley Park on VAR duty) - have been dropped for this weekend.
Doesn't help Wolves one bit, mind.

It’s criminal the absolute lack of scrutiny surrounding the decision making at Wembley against Forest; even more bizarre that those in charge of htafc never seemingly pushed for anything; even more bizarrely they then sign two of our best players for a ‘reportedly’ small fee.

I just cannot believe Jon Moss is in such an important role. He is clearly incompetent and worse potentially biased in his decision making, yet retires and turns up as a referee assessor or whatever the job title is.
I am not usually a conspiracy theorist promoter but something untoward has gone on here. If I or anyone else made the double mistakes he made at Wembley in our jobs we would be instantly dismissed and probably blacklisted or labelled as being incompetent. Not in corrupt Britain expect promotion and a gilded future for your troubles. Mind you look at our politicians in government office!

Moss got involved with the romance and forest were getting promoted regardless
The club should have sued moss for his gross negligence

I think we need to move on. What exactly does this mean? Forget it never happened? Learn from it? what? Why bother losing sleep over it? And to be honest, I find it rather boring hearing how hard done by we are all the time. The "everyone is always against us" mentality is a bit pathetic, in my opinion. Nottingham Forest were promoted because they scored more goals than we did in the final. And even if we did deserve penalties, the decision not to give them was incompetence rather than corruption.

Wolves and Terriers clearly don’t scare the likes of Moss !
Very apt that Red Devil’s do given The Devil that he clearly is...
He’d fit in well in The West Island given his ‘support’ of ‘big’ teams like Man Utd and Notts Forest over ‘little old’ clubs like Wolverhampton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town !

To be honest I wouldn't lose sleep over our club going bust. Sad, but I'd move on pretty quickly. If only the fortunes of HTAFC were the biggest worry I have, how sweet would life be? It's not because we failed to get promoted, but the manner in which it happened. In real time I didn't think either LoB or Toffolo's were pens either. If I thought it was simple human error I could let it go. With VAR they were both stonewall. Tierney knew it. Moss knew it at least for one of them. Because they saw the video replays. This looks like corruption. It looks like Moss, Tierney et al were keen to ensure the "correct" result. It spoils the enjoyment of the game.

Notts Forest were the big city club, out of the top flight for over 20 years and former European champions... Town were comparatively viewed as a small town club, and one which had upset the applecart by (a) not being a one-season wonder, and (b) voting against Scudamore's golden parachute. There was probably pressure from the higher-ups about wanting the "bigger" (i.e more lucrative) team to go up, and both Moss and Tierney allowed this to influence their decisions.
