I saw this stat a when we signed Rudoni Interesting that we were linked to Simpson. Also I personally wouldn't mind Troy Parratt for a season on loan. Then go back in for Simpson next summer when he's out of contract (which is what we did with Kasumu) What’s happened with Tyreece Simpson, that rumour seems to have gone away. I guess we couldn't agree a valuation To be honest if we signed him - one of the EFL's best young up and coming strikers to supplement Ward and Rhodes - along with Tino on loan then it would represent a very good window in my view.

To my mind, you need 3 players in each position: (1) A first choice - someone who you'd pick for a big game if everyone was available. (2) Cover or competition for (1). Can slot in if (1) is unavailable with no significant drop off in quality. (3) Unlikely to play much whilst in this role. Probably someone not in the middle of their career i.e. either a promising kid looking to make their name (who you can rest when they need pulling out of the limelight) or an aging stalwart coming towards retirement, maybe combining the playing role with coaching.
Looking at the options we currently have:
Ward - Just had the best season of his life and I am confident that he'll play well again next season. His game is based on work rate and that's not something that is easy to work out. On the other hand, he has had a few injuries over the years and is the wrong side of 30. Visibly tired towards the end of last season. Will need more help.
Rhodes - Age catching up with him, but still useful and (like Ward) I would not be unhappy going into the opening fixture vs Burnley with him in the matchday squad or starting XI. Also like Ward though, I'm not confident that he can play week in, week out and maintain the standard for an entire season.
Phillips - Looked promising at one stage, needs a good season under his belt. Didn't exactly tear it up in League 2, so I'm not confident that he's the answer here now, and I suspect he never will be.
Koroma - Not a centre forward. Might have the potential to become one (and I realise that was his original position) but hasn't thus far shown anything to suggest he can perform anywhere but the left hand side of attack.
Hudlin and Harratt - lumped in together because they're both on loan and therefore unavailable until January at least (and probably next season in both cases). May well be great in the future but not ready yet. With the age of the two strikers who are currently vying for the CF berth, it's unlikely that KH or KH will be ready for regular first team football before Ward & Rhodes are ready to move on.
Whether you'd class Rhodes and Ward as a (1), a (2) or a (3) - and imo you could make arguments for all of those - we need another striker. Happily, because you can make all those arguments I think it gives us flexibility to look at players from a range of stages in their careers.

Would anyone take Andy Carroll on a free (don’t all hound me at once) Didn't he fail a medical at Club Brugge recently?

Would anyone take Andy Carroll on a free (don’t all hound me at once) Possibly. It depends on his wage demands but he could be a decent short term option. Ideally I'd be looking at someone a bit younger (he's older than either of our current veteran strikers!) but if there's nobody else available I wouldn't be too upset

With the goals skewed towards the second half of the season, so may be able to step up a league. Ipswich are rumoured to be after him, and the Cowleys want him back.

He joined Leicester U23s 3 years ago but I don't think he has played any first team football. He had a season at Rotherham in the Championship and made 4 starts plus a load of sub appearances and scored one goal, in the EFL cup. After that he went to League 1 Pompey where he did pretty well. So either he has improved or League 1 is his level.

If it was Hirst and it was a permanent that would actually be a decent signing. Scored crazy goals at Youth level. Did well at Pompey last year. Tall and decent finisher. Only 23. All Pompey fans on Twitter want him Back but think he’s champ player. If it was a loan I’d be less enthused

I’d be very happy with Tyreece Simpson. Holds the ball up, good link up play and looks to have a turn of pace.
Someone young and hungry, has it in him to play 1 up front and has the pace to stop teams playing a high line.

Looks exactly what we need, Keinan Davis type player That’s a pretty impressive highlights reel, especially considering it was only a 6 month loan. He looks to be quite a balanced forward. Able to drop towards the wings to collect the ball, handy in the box at finishing chances, decent longer range shot, seems to be able to hold the ball up well and play short or long passes. He’s certainly not the fastest, but his upper body strength will help him get past defenders regularly. I think the only things we didn’t see from that reel was his overall movement and heading ability. Perhaps he’d be a really decent second/third choice if we could get him for a reasonable fee.

Similar mold to a young Lukaku. Feel our coaching team could bring him! Can see why Rhodes is looking for a move if we are looking at bringing in someone like this
