Can’t compare ourselves to Burnley.
They’ve been in the PL lately and have millions in parachute payments to spend on transitioning their squad.

When they showed the Burnley goal again a few mins ago, anyone else notice Russell just ambling back watching their attack, making no attempt to get involved in any defending? Pathetic Blowing out of his arse after 10-15 minutes, too slow for the Championship.

First half truly awful. Second? ..... ...not that bad.... ...lots of teams will have worst results than 0-1 against Burnley if we're honest... I think we got lucky. They could have had a sackful.

The same subject pops up every single bloody season and the club has failed miserably to address it. No fecking shots on target, are we becoming the worst team in this league for these stats ffs 180 mins without a shot on goal, can you believe that?

That was relegation standard as struggled to put two passes together and not one shot on target in 90 plus minutes

Interesting that we seem to be carrying baggage from the play off final. Absolutely nowhere near in the first half with most of our team from last season. The new players need to start next week. By the way... anybody any idea how we are trying to play now? Looks like it's back to hoof ball... not a single instance did we play it out from the back tonight. Who do you pass it out to? Russell stands around looking like he's about to fall asleep.

Really worried tbh. I know its only 1 game, but I said after Wembley that we must make sure we dont do a Barnsley. Overachieve, lose the manager and best player and not replace any of them properly, and they went down with a whimper. That game was embarassing but for a brief stint when Tino came on and gave us some hope, but it needs more than 1 player performing to do anything. That game showed how much we missed O'B. Very worrying start, an abysmal performance, no shots on target, no entertainment and a manager with no experience to turn it all around.

Burnley were much better than I expected, moved the ball really well. We were not in the game until the second half , gonna need to be much better than that if we want a good season.

It's quite worrying when your entire team looks knackered after 20 mins of your 1st game of the season.
I only realised Russell was playing when he got subbed off. Game totally passed him by. Holmes and Koroma beyond useless. Thomas well off it. REG done by 60. Ruffels looks out of his depth.
At least the subs gave some life to an otherwise totally lacklustre and frankly embarrassing performance.

Crying out for a shuttler in midfield. I don't think any combination of 3 we have in midfield that fit that well together. Would go with the 4-4-2 for now with Thomas having freedom to go down both wings over the top.

Defence weren't too bad considering the lack of protection from midfield. Lees was good but Ruffels was dodgy first half.
Hogg and Russell together in midfield didn't work last season and it's not going to work this season. Too slow and vulnerable to balls in behind which Burnley took advantage of constantly. We knew Kasumu was injury prone and yet we ship out High on loan. If he misses any games as a result of this, our only cover is a 19 year old.
Koroma was as bad as his worst last season, nothing came off for him. Holmes had really poor touches and didn't show his usual work rate. Thomas woke up second half but was far from his best. Ward was quiet.
In terms of positives, I thought the second half, while still not that good, was 1000x better than the first, and the signs of that were pretty immediate. This tells me Schofield knows how to get through to them. That 5 minute spell after Tino came on was good. And that's it.

He'll be our player of the season unless he gets injured.

Can't believe he didn't change the system, it was blatantly obvious after 5 minutes that we were getting killed in midfield. Russell doesn't have the legs for 2 in CM. If he continues to play Russell it relies on a 5 man midfield.
Don't need to talk about some of the individual performances, some shockers out there tonight.

We improved a bit with the new players on. There's 2 or 3 that should be nowhere near and they probably won't be. Schofield got it wrong but he did make attempts to change it. Personally I thought we looked fucked by a shite pre season schedule that didn't allow us to play our first team together once. You can't play pressing football with Russell pressing and Hogg holding, it's too slow. After 20 minutes we seemed to drop into last seasons lower press which worked a bit better. We still lack pace though. No genuine pace at all in any of the 16 players that featured tonight.

I think we’ll see a completely different team selection for Birmingham. After watching that we can only get better. If Schofield picks Holmes and Koroma next game he isn't the man. Of course he isn’t the man but he kisses ass and that’s what counts at HTFC

Hopefully DS will see what his eyes are seeing and act

Assuming he's going to miss the next game we have Hogg and Russell. Beyond that, even in the youth teams, there's only Camara, unless we play someone like Nakayama or REG out of position. Thought it was a bizarre choice to send High out, we'd have been far better off with him in place of either Hogg or Russell today

We badly missed Toffolo tonight. Thomas was guff and Ruffels was guff, take your two wingback out and we are highly unlikely to create anything. We desperately need another left back.
That was awful to watch.
