Friday's EFL games called off, so it's highly likely the weekends will be called off tomorrow as well Unbelievable. Folk from Norwich travelling all the way to Burnley will have made travel plans and paid for them ages ago. Once again footie fans treated like shite.

so can I. This is a sad day for everybody. Sure the match will be off now but will be able to get refund, not a problem. And I am sure the train company will also refund my advanced train ticket given the very unusual situation we are in.

The rules about mourning the death of a monarch are probably set well before modern life, the pace of things, cost of re-arranging stuff etc.
I doubt that retail will be shut down for instance.
I think it'd be best if they just got on with things, people do want to keep doing normal stuff, and that approach doesn't feel insensitive. If you're that bothered & you think it's insensitive that it hasn't been postponed, then you don't go...

But the Windsors will surely be able to afford to recompense people? (Yes I know their gas bill will also have gone up but even so…)

Many not bothered at all. It’s typical over reaction of the modern soft society. Schools will be closed next.

If as expected games are postponed over the weekend businesses will have geared up for games going ahead and will have beer food etc to pay for they cannot now sell this weekend. People would be expecting to work. stewards and bar staff for example who are not now going to be working and therefore not get paid. People will loose money on hotels travel that they are not going to get back. yes it is sad that the Queen has passed away but I don’t think it’s right that people loose money/income as a result of this sad event

I doubt they'll refund the train fare because the Queen has passed away and a football game has been called off, almost certainly not. Personally, life should just carry on as normal, most folk will be sick of the blanket coverage on TV already. Most of the country will have just shrugged their shoulders, said awww and went back to the washing up or making their tea.

It sounds like a lot of things are off/closing tomorrow, but re-opening on Saturday.
So who knows...
I don't see the need in the modern day & age. If it was the day of her funeral I could understand it.

If it was the day of her funeral I could understand it. Likewise, the funeral day will be a bank holiday/national day of mourning. Practicality means we cant close hospitality and events at this time for any length of time, in normal circumstances it would be ery damaging, at the moment it would be a disaster.

I’m sorry to hear that The Queen has passed away - and while I wouldn’t be giving up my morning long lie to watch if her cavalcade was passing ma road end - she seemed a quiet old lady that always had a pleasant smile and deepest condolences to her loved ones and family at this time...
But but but... surely not another Saturday without Huddersfield Town - just how many have been cancelled this season alone for one reason or another...
And I say that even in the very likely event that’d we would probably get beat !

Not because of the queen's death, but because Prince Andrew has headed up there to Balmoral!

I don't think it would be disrespectful for sporting events to continue on Saturday, then postpone if they're on the day of the funeral.
There will be sufficient pomp & ceremony on Sat to do with the formalities.
Reason things are off tomorrow is probably because it's too close to do anything other than postpone it if they can, they'd probably get caned if they didn't.
Loads of sports will be waiting for the official guidance, but I doubt there are many in favour of a blank few days, and particularly a blank weekend.
There will still be the die hard traditionalists who will moan, but they'll be a significant minority.

Having just read the long read about Operation LB, people may be relieved to hear that football games went ahead a couple of days after Liz’s Dad died. So even back then they were aware of the practicalities of things. (probably more so than the world we live in now)
So I think tomorrow is just a mark of respect day, I’d hope that the games will be ok on Sat.
However, for those supporters travelling to London it could be a bit busier than you were anticipating.
