Pretty simple to me. 1. Nobody can say what would have happened without Hoyles intervention. You can speculate all you like but you can not know because it never happened, at least not in this Universe. 2. We had our most successful period by fay under Hoyle, and he deserves to take a lot of the credit for putting money in to make us competitive in League One and Championship. 3. A lot of mistakes were made when we got into the Premier League. Despite saying we would not make them we did and Hoyle has to take a lot of the responsibility for that too. We spent far too much money on poor players. 4. He created a lot of frustration with his priorities after relegation, selling to PH who was not financially stable enough, etc. Seemingly in an attempt to pull money back out which led to us not having money to spend. 5. He seems to have written off a lot of the loans he put in which is admirable, but its early days yet. He is a smart man and he knows he probably had no choice in order to sell. I think Dean Hoyle has overall been a good steward of the club and I appreciate the Premier League time because it is something I never thought I would see. I think the opportunity was wasted to a large extent but people make mistakes. Hopefully the new people have the financial clout and wisdom to make us competitive. A balanced post which all on both sides should agree with. I'm very frustrated by his actions of recent years/months but the good he brought to the club in the early to middle stages of his ownership can't be brushed aside.

What so many people fail to understand is that without his timely intervention we'd have been playing in the National League years ago. How do you work that out? Do you really think that we are such a small club ? Do you not think that someone would have bought us or do you think that absolutely nobody would have been interested ? We have just been bought and we are losing £5m a year. Absolute bollocks. One thing I've noticed about people with limited intelligence is that they have to resort to insults when they encounter someone with a different opinion to their own. To answer your question directly, do I think we are a small club? YES in the grand scheme of things we certainly are. If you think the prospect of non league football is so far fetched then take a look at Oldham Athletic. Those of a certain age will remember them playing in the Premier League, but where are they now? A similar sized Town, with in fact a bigger population. I appreciate that sinking to your level is out of character for me, but if you really believe it can never happen to us then YOU are the one talking absolute bollocks!

I doubt we would have gone into liquidation as Halifax, Bury etc did. Someone would have taken the club on, albeit maybe at a lower level.
Whatever the rights and wrongs, we still have a club to support. I’m grateful for that. Although my loft space gets smaller each year with the Town memorabilia I randomly collect 😄

They've spent the majority of their history in the lower leagues and haven't been at this level for nearly 30 years. Oldham is also half the population of Huddersfield.

The club the size of us wouldnt have done, i dont buy that at all, Portsmouth, Bolton, Charlton and probably numerous other clubs (some a lot smaller) who i cant even think of have been in a perilous state in recent years, they didnt sink to the 8th tier and neither would we have done. We went into admin, obviously in a perilous financial state and still went straight back up from L2, with an owner only using us to protect the Giants. But yeah without DH arriving we'd have been in the National League or worse And nearly went up 2005/06 season losing in playoffs when really we should have gone up automatically if not for a poor April After this we were treading water a little and deano came in and made us a force in lg1. with davy feeling pressure from fans and the cost of running football ever increasing plus he had done what he needed to protect the giants ie stadium shares. He sold town making a nice wedge. Don't believe we would have been national league or liquidated but we certainly wouldn't have been on the ride we have had since DH took over which I think every town fan is grateful for. It's just the last few years for whatever the reasons which have been done to death things have gone a bit sour and mistakes need to be owned just like success and plaudits are. the vitriol and abuse is unacceptable just like it was for PH no need, you can question/debate without personal abuse ,I've not agreed and questioned him and the club that's what the forum is for? Anyways everything aside when the dust settles the DH era will generally be looked on as a happy successful one And this shouldn't be overlooked and I hope he feels he can still come on the terraces and enjoy a Bovril supporting the lads. Whatever my opinions on the last few years I'd still buy him a pint as a thanks for giving me some of the best times of supporting our great club over the last 35yrs.

Ok then let me give you another example. Burnley once came within one game of dropping out of the league. Are we bigger than them too? Outside of the greedy league football clubs frequently operate on a shoestring, and from a pure business sense they are not a safe investment. It can easily happen to more than you think and we are certainly no exception. By the way show me your evidence that Oldham is half the population of Huddersfield, because I think you are wrong.

Cheers.. captain has views that I don't necessarily agree with but his views are rationale and thought out, your statement however was just plain ridiculous and that's why it was simply dismissed. You are comparing us to Oldham just because they were once in the Premier league..? seriously just stop. My level.. classic stuff. 👏👏

Agree with 3 points but not these 2. 3. Hoyle didnt say we wouldn't make mistakes... how could he? And nobody made mistakes deliberately. Yes, in hindsight we did.. we spend tens of millions on terrible signings..but we didnt overspend for a PL club.. we only 'blew our brains out' ( which was what he said we wouldn't do ) because those signings were so bad none of them had any sell on value. Hoyle didnt choose any of them, though ultimately he has to take the responsibility, which he has. 4. PH WAS financially stable when he sold to him. People are going back and altering history to make out he wasn't. He was worth an absolute fortune!.. tens and tens of millions, maybe over a hundred million. Obviously the deal had Hoyle being paid back most of his money but not much of it actually was before the deal was scrapped. We had no money to spend because we were saddled with a host of terrible signings we couldn't sell and get money back for and they were still having to be paid a fortune. It was those signings which screwed us up, not the deal with PH.

Ok fair play, I was looking at the metropolitan borough of Oldham (246,100) which I suppose can be compared to Calderdale (approx. 211,000). Going back to my original point though, I still say we have a lot to thank Hoyle for. He certainly doesn't deserve the shit he gets on here.

They didn't quite get that right though did they? Another from the "football only started in '92" brigade! Quote: "The local businessman will not receive a dividend from the sale unless Huddersfield are promoted to the top flight for only the second time in their history, an achievement which would see Hoyle paid a small bonus."

Please give us ANY evidence for this please - not the saving the club a second time statement, but the "we wouldn't be in existence but for him" - your original statement.. Logic, the club was in dire shape, like non league to non existant shape. Stop arguing for the sake of fucking arguing, fucking boring. Stop talking bollocks then

What you're failing to realise is that is based on absolutely nothing whatsoever. No, it is an opinion based upon the knowledge that we were completely skint and, contrary to popular belief, we did not have a queue of billionaires hammering at the door. And this is based on your knowledge of what exactly? And why did we need a 'queue of billionaires' when Dean Hoyle himself was a million miles from being a billionaire?. The answer is that your 'opinion' is based on pure conjecture, and that you have absolutely zero clue what would have transpired.

It was those signings which screwed us up, not the deal with PH. On Hodgkinson's wealth, the crucial difference is that DH was personally worth hundreds of millions when he bought us. PH had his money tied up in Pure. Those businesses may or may not have been worth tens of millions at one point but he himself clearly wasn't, IMO. Added to that, his businesses were trading in a very competitive, cut throat and volatile industry, as evidenced by the way his multi-million turnover flagship company went pop on the back of one change in the law. Put it this way, I wish I was a quid behind Hodgkinson but he never had the necessary personal funds to run a Championship club and his businesses always looked a bit flaky.

Like we said the other day he'll get nothing for the club shares....but will get his money from the stadium shares and from Canalside. As you well know there are ways of wording things to make a fact sound better or worse- known as Spin ! Not having a dig BTW, he could have asked for money for the shares too, just saying.

Most of Towns exclusives go to the Daily Mail - there have been several PR pieces over the years. We all wait with baited breath to see what these North Americans have in store. I believe DH has done all he realistically could from a financial point of view with the sale- but the true judgement will come from how good a fit this group actually is.
