If you meant Mahoneys, the ball moved just before he struck it. Glad someone else saw that, I thought I was tripping balls! We had enough players tripping over balls tonight. Mainly Rhodes.

We've not had one for going on 3 seasons, and won't be getting one any time soon. Not much point in wasting time on hypothetical situations. Our finishing last season was amongst the best in the league. If Rhodes had played like he was sober we'd have won that. That said, Simpson doesn't strike me as the answer for tonight. Quick and an absolute unit but even more raw than I like my steak. Have you seen his scoring record ??

It’s a really bad one for Nakayama. Out of the World Cup for sure. I thought that as soon as he went down. The conditions were abysmal towards the end of the first half, floodlights swinging in the wind and it was raining sideways. Think he felt something pop in his knee or ankle, put his hand up straight away. Perhaps we can appeal to EFL that the game should have been abandoned on grounds of player safety, and MF can have the lads practice their shooting before the rematch...

In isolation we did ok…but the league 1 side of roberts/pills/hunt etc beats that side tonight 9 times out of 10. The league 1 side that couldn't get out of league 1? Yeah. Which tells you all you need to know.

Simms would have made a big difference to our side. He's a handful. The way he bullied Ruffels was embarassing

Looked to me like he lost his footing on the wet grass, those can be way worse than some of the more "industrial" challenges from an opponent.

Has Big Mark said how “on another day” we could have won it 5-0 at half time and he gets to have a fish supper with his feet up? I can’t be bothered to hear what drivel he spouted. In a way I feel sorry for him as he’s not good enough but then neither is the squad. The scary thing is I think we will be mid table League One at best. These death spirals take their toll on teams

Too many inexperienced players. Not bad players but this team just feels like it will go down. Won’t be through lack of effort.

We actually played some good stuff tonight.
We were the better side before they scored and that seemed to knock our confidence a bit. Not surprising when the team is so young.
As has been said, scoring is a big issue. We should have scored a couple tonight, especially the Holmes chance, and that has cost us the win.
Throw Lees, Pearson, Turton, Hogg, Thomas and Anjorin into that team and it’s a comfortable win for us. I guess that’s what I am clinging onto. We surely have to get some of those players back soon and we will start to pick up some wins.

I'm almost looking forward to next season in League One, where "we belong". Much bigger clubs than us have been there for a few years, recovered, then got promoted. No shame in being there again. We don't have the money to compete properly in this league, but most fans can't see that. That's where we were when I started watching in 1989, in some ways it feels like 'home' but I really hope you're wrong. I think we all know we aren't ever going to be a Man City, or become the plaything of some sheikh (thank goodness) but we're big enough that we should be able to hold our own in this league and have a play-off push every few years.

The squad is nowhere near strong enough to cope without them for sure

2 goals from open play in the last 8 games An own goal and a rubbish cross which fortunately went in. No way can a team stay up with a record like that I love a stat, not going to lie. Ones involving Town in recent years have been truly amazing (and depressing).

Just to reiterate, shite result.
However, as many have said, better finishing and we could well have taken the 3 points. I don’t think Sunderland were anything but ordinary, but the first goal was a very good break. Second goal was a sucker punch when we were chasing an equaliser and it made the scoreline flattering for them.
We’re bottom of the league, and as befits that position, the luck really isn’t with us. Our injury list seems to grow just to give you that further tap in the nads.
However, I saw a few green shoots out there tonight. Some young lads who seem to be getting a bit of confidence in their game, which bodes well for the future, even if we were to be relegated this season. We might need to take a step backwards to move forward, not great for the here & now but longer term we might have a very decent midfield.
Defensively we didn’t really do much wrong despite the score, but the age of that back line and the fact we’ve not really had a settled bunch is a concern for me. If we can get Pearson and Lees back & keep them fit, it should give us a boost.
As for the forward play, not a lot you can say. It’s not really a lack of talent or chances in the last couple of games, I just think we’ve crept into that mode where our composure is pants. Once you’re bottom of the league & chasing games that becomes a more difficult problem to solve.
You’ll probably think I’m on something, but if we can knock a couple of goals in on Sat (big ask), would it surprise people on here if we took a point or three from Blackburn.
Still plenty to play for, could do with at least 4 points before the WC break.
UTT!!! (and no, I’m not on drugs…)

I saw the Yuta incident myself and I know 100% it's not looking good but I'll wait on a doctor's assessment and official word from the club if Bob doesn't mind.

No lack of effort and some good football played. The second goal was just us chasing the game, it was the last kick pretty much. The first one came from a fast break and their No. 10, Roberts getting a fast low cross in, which we didn’t defend well. I thought Roberts was their best player first half. Other than that Nicholls made one save.
Really bad luck with the injuries. It forces changes and must upset the other lads seeing two of their teammates stretchered off.
Twice as many shots as them but we didn’t trouble their keeper. I am not sure how we improve that. Maybe when Tino is back.
Difficult times and it feels like luck is really against us. It will be a huge test of the manager and the players.

Conceding first looks massive, especially with such a young inexperienced team. You could see straight after the goal that both teams knew Town haven't got a point after conceding first.

That 11 at on the pitch at the end is the worst we've had since we won that play off final V Sheffield United.
Nichols Spencer Helik Boyle ruffles Camara Diarra Holmes Rudoni Mahoney Rhodes
Or 17th August 2012 v Cardiff Smithies Hunt Clarke lynch Dixon Clayton Southern Arfield Norwood Scannell Novak
Bearing in mind we've been to the premier league and repeatedly sold our best players for the last 10, it is an utter shambles with what we are left with.

Spirited performance and we certainly didn't deserve to lose...but we did. The young lads put in a shift and we looked lively but too many times no end product and we carry no goal threat at all if truth be known. Our crossing tonight was rank. Holmes misses an excellent chance and 30 seconds later Sunderland are in front, just knocked the stuffing out of us.

Well actually that's not factually true because most hit the first man or were blazed over everyone and out the other side of the box. When it happens over and over again, that is a lack of talent.

When you think of some of our signings, the attacking ones were supposed to be the priority but we sign Hudlin knowing he’s not good enough but helps us get Rudoni, who himself is an attacking player but not quite at the level yet. Then we sign a forward who may be good but is out for atleast half the season and then in reality won’t be match fit until the summer. Anjorin is talented but an injury risk. So then we still rely on Rhodes and Ward but neither is fast enough to play the role we expect of them

We don't have the money to compete properly in this league, but most fans can't see that. I get what you mean but League One would be a challenge. Costs are going up for everyone and it’s hard to see how the club can balance that with the inevitable reductions in match day income. The club will survive in one shape or form but relegation will feel like death by a 1000 cuts.
