With respect, we are far from a decent side right now - we've not scored in 6 league games, kept 3 clean sheets all season and are bottom of the league after more than a third of the season. I came away Wed thinking this has all the hallmarks of the Wadsworth relegation year - and we all know how that ended up. There is some talent but we arent quite good enough from back to front and confidence is shot when we go behind because we create so few chances. We weren't atrocious like the pne game...........at times we played some "nice" football, but we've played some of the more average sides at home in particular and lost far too many - blackpool/wigan/sunderland/pne and we dont look like winning at all on the road sadly. That aint a great outlook for the future for me and if we have to rely on the youngsters (Spencer/Camara/Diarra/Jackson) for much of the season i genuinely fear for us. Some will go on to have decent careers but they desperately need some leadership and experience to grind out a couple of results to build from and right now I'm not sure our plight allows them the usual ups and downs of career progression which young lads need. By way of example - Jackson did well first half wed but was poor in the second. Not his fault - the coach got that wrong for me, but its relatively fine margins and we keep getting the wrong side of them. Hopefully we can grind out a result or two before next Sat - if not its will be a huge task to stay up given we are already 5 pts adrift of safety and that could be 7 or 8 by the time the world cup break arrives.

No we’re not relegated. It’s not even half way through the season. Not a terrible performance tonight but with a lot of young inexperienced players on the pitch there was always going to be some naive decision making. Deluded. £100 we are. Will be glad to lose it. Deluded? Wow.....you know me personally, right? We are not relegated. Fact. It's not half way through the season. Fact. It wasn't a terrible performance. Subjective view.....but echoed by many on here. Lots of young players on the pitch. Fact. Some naive decision making. Subjective view.....but probably right and understandable given the experience of the players on the pitch. So, what is deluded exactly about all of that? We may get relegated. But we are not yet, not when not even half of the season has gone. You try and be balanced and fair on here and often you get a one word response by some clown who doesn't have the mental capacity to enter into a debate about the points made in a post. Well done. It must have taken some time for you to compose that response.

Your attachment highlights the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. We aren't down yet but your picture shows how hard it will be to swing things around.

Would be interesting to know how far adrift the bottom team was in each season. On the face of it, 6 points (with a game in hand) doesn't seem too difficult, I'm sure we've closed a similar gap on teams at various times in the past few seasons, but I can't imagine many have been in a worse position than we are now. We need a massive improvement to get there.

We were in a far worse position in 1992-93, from the start of the season up until mid-March we didn't go any higher than 23rd in the table. We eventually finished 16th that season!!
In contrast, we didn't too bad under Wadsworth initially but by November we were firmly planted in the drop zone and didn't go above 22nd until February. We then slipped back to bottom of the pile and it was only a mini-revival under Mel Machin that had us finish in 22nd position.
We've had our fair share of Great Escape seasons, including the much-remembered 1997-98 season under Jacko but also the 1948-49 season where we stayed up on last day of the season with a late goal and the 1992-93 season (which is by far more impressive than 1992-93 considering how bad we were) and then the 2012-13 where we survived on the final day.
We'll either drop or we won't, at least it's never boring watching Town.

I've added points after 19 games as well as points from safety after this point, as well as going back a bit further which shows 3 teams doing it in the mid/late 90s. Obviously we haven't played 19 games yet, but nobody has come back from more than 6 points adrift in the last 27 years, so it's looking bleak especially if we lose tomorrow and results go against us.
