Are we re-signing players like Ruffels because Warnock likes experienced players and there are two more places available on the bench next season? No, just to piss of one of our posters 😉 It takes a lot more than us signing Josh Ruffels to piss me off, Andy, believe me.

Think this is a great shout and probably the reason we released then re-signed - we’ve only just recently found out about the 9 subs I believe? Why not get someone you trust who’s affordable to fill an extra gap

Just read on the official site that Josh Ruffels became the 1,000th player to play for Town. I’ve seen 550 of them play for Town. Today’s miscellaneous fact! Saw this the other day for the first time ever and noticed Ruffells was the last name - but they seem to have ran out of stickers and not bothered with last years team!? Thanks for that. I can now check which players I haven’t seen play for Town as well since I first went in March 1965. I reckon there’ll be 50 or more.

He’s a squad player that can fill a few positions. Chill out. Yes, a very poor squad player. He was good under Warnock, ok under Carlos. He was only very poor under Schofield & Fotheringham, like every single one of them.

How good is Headley? If the club think he’s first choice left back, this makes total sense, who else is going to sign to be second choice better than Josh. If Headley turns out to be turd, we’re stuck with 3 average left sided defenders. I guess it depends who we play. If we go 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 then I think Headley is a great shout for Left Wing back (with Thomas as right wing back) If we play a flat back four I'd expect Yuta or Ruffells to be left back And if we sign a RB then playing a back 4 is a legitimate option. For me, we're now a left winger away from having our left side sorted and a right back who can get forward away from having the defensive line sorted.

We literally released him a month ago and didn't take the 12-month option we had on him. Now he's back on a two-year deal. Make it make sense...

On the face of it I'd agree... BUT He's still young and with room to improve. If we aren't going to be spaffing silly money on strengthening, Ruffels is potentially a useful player to have in the squad. With Warnock able to work on him over the summer, giving him another year or two wouldn't be a terrible idea. Still expect Nakayama to be first choice at left-back, as he was just finding his feet in the Championship when he got injured. Ruffels is 30 in October. Bloody hell, thought he was about 23.

Thanks for that, I had wondered if I’d missed something about him being released. Maybe we’ve given him a 2yr contract on more favourable terms for the club? I know it’s 1 yr vs 2 yr, but maybe it’s the equivalent of an 18 month deal on his previous terms? Hope I’m making sense there.

Probably considerably cheaper than the 12 month option, with a negotiated additional year to seal the deal. At his age he’s probably keen for the stability.

If we were planning to keep him then just taking the option would surely have been easier. I can only assume that either NW was not yet confirmed (even behind closed doors!) and the club wanted to give the new guy as blank a canvas as possible, or we thought we could bring in someone else, but failed in that bid (for whatever reason).

He probably thought he could get a better deal somewhere and town probably thought they could get a better player for the same wages
Fast forward six weeks and Josh hasn't found a new club and Town are struggling to find a replacement

I’ve always kept a record of every game I’ve been to and for Town that includes the Town team etc. However, I hadn’t previously kept a record of players that had played for Town since I started watching them but who I hadn’t personally seen play for Town. Now I can!

Don’t see what all the fuss is about, steady player to have on the bench, versatile and can fill in a few different positions, and knows the club and how we play. Yes we need a ball playing midfielder and another option up front, so let’s see what develops over the next few weeks. This season could work out decent yet imo.

Low-risk, reliable squad player and as been said, can play in multiple positions. Makes sense it does both on and off the field

He was decent under Warnock, he knows how to get players playing above themselves. I have no issues with him staying on. Think defensively we're pretty solid, it's up top of the pitch we're a bit ropey, goalscoring wise.

Warnock said at end of last season he’d have recommended Town offering new deals to Koroma, Ward and Ruffels. Now Warnock’s staying on, he’s shown to be as good as his word. Can guarantee that Ruffels, whatever his limitations, will now run through brick walls for Warnock forever and a day.

Maybe your colleagues feel like they work with one though. At least they'd say it to my face, rather than cowardly hiding behind faceless profiles on an internet forum. htafcokay insinuates that there are idiots on this board…. Tinpot suggests htafcokay is an idiot himself…. htafcokay then does the ‘say it my face’ thing ? ! Does that make you, htafcokay, a coward as per your own definition ??
