Years ago I worked in the publishing dept. of the Examiner,I was living with a girl who fell and broke her leg,I had to stay at home and look after the kids {Being not married to the mother of my kids back then was looked down on,unlike nowadays}after a short time they sent a younger member of staff to my house with my P45! I had worked for the bastards for 6 years...p.s. I know who was behind, this slimy deed, but never ran into them again or I would I have exacted revenge. I think the twats are all dead now anyway.

Let's hope he will be involved at some point. And next season who knows?

I agree that employers should support their staff as much as possible, but loyalty is a two way thing. Before I retired one of my staff asked for compassionate leave to attend the funeral of grandparents on SIX separate occasions! In the end offered unpaid leave and received dog's abuse as a result. There's swinging the lead and then there's taking the piss. I'd never do that, too much like bad karma for me, like wishing them dead or something. The majority of people (I hope) wouldn't do that if their employer is a good un as you sound to be. I'd feel guilty as hell pulling anything like that currently, but you'll always get people who are tits I suppose. By the time it reached five I thought I might have miscounted, but when the next one came along I checked back and confirmed it was definitely six. When I questioned her about it she got agitated and finally admitted that 3 of them weren't really grandparents but just neighbours "who were always like a granny to me". You couldn't make it up!

It’s great isn’t it it coming up with all the new ways to get paid for not doing anything. Talk about entitled. It may be a serious issue but why is it the employers responsibility? Not only the employers responsibility but ‘the least they can do’ as if it’s somehow their fault as the employer. Yeah. Same at our place. One of my employees' wife died and he wanted the afternoon off to go to the funeral. Out of the generosity of my heart I would have said ok if I'd been the one that killed her, but it wasn't my fault, so I told the entitled prick to report to his desk as usual. Methinks you’ve missed an emoji there… 😉

I had what I imagine was a similar experience (we don’t know exactly what happened with Knockaert) some years ago. My baby Grandson died suddenly and my priority became looking after my family. I hadn’t much holiday left so I asked the owner of the business if I could take unpaid leave for two or three weeks until after the funeral. He said ‘yes, of course, take as long as you need, and we’ll still pay you’. As a result I felt more loyalty to that man and that company than anyone I worked for throughout my career. As far as Knockaert is concerned, we don’t know whether he got paid or not. It’s also worth considering the fact that he is looking for a club for next season. If the new regime fancy him, and plenty of Championship clubs will, any humanity shown by Town now will have done our chances no harm at all. I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole as far as a permanent contract goes. Although the lad's current struggles aren't his fault, we'd most likely be lumbered with a player on a pretty high wage who would be unavailable for half the season due to either injuries or personal reasons. He’s had one personal circumstances event, but you think he’s likely to have more? Do you know something about his family’s medical situation then? I get the injuries thing, that would obviously be a big factor.

When I questioned her about it she got agitated and finally admitted that 3 of them weren't really grandparents but just neighbours "who were always like a granny to me". You couldn't make it up! I was going to respond with this possibly being legitimate due to "blended families". So, since starting my current job I've had two blood relative grandparents die, and two step-grandparents, with another one who is still alive despite thinking she was at death's door in Christmas 2021. That would be a 5th "grandparent", when she finally goes. However, when it was step grandparents I did explain to my colleagues the truth rather than pass it off as something it wasn't. My current employer is really good for supporting that sort of thing. Conversely (same employer but different line manager) I've been in a situation when my stepdaughter was ill and needed picking up from school and I was given no leeway at all. A good employer is hugely important. Totally wrong to take the piss.

Judging by Warnocks press conference it doesn't look like he will play again. May be there is some beef between him and Knockaert and this is his polite way of saying not in his team!

Methinks you’ve missed an emoji there… 😉 No. True story. That's just what us Tories are like! 😉 It reminds me of that Channel 4 advert for Italian football where the old bloke is sat next to an empty seat in a packed stadium. Someone asks him about it and he explains it was his dearly departed wife’s seat. They then ask “didn’t any friends or family want it?” He shakes his head sadly and replies “No, they’re all at the funeral.” 😂

I kind of agree with mallyb in a sense although I get what you mean by motivation. The last firm I worked for didn't have any such thing as compassionate leave; if you wanted time off for something not covered by sick, maternity or whatever you had to book a holiday. I lost 7 friends and relatives (including my 16 month old Goddaughter) during my employment there and had to use my holidays JUST to go to the funeral(s). That company had the attitude of bare legal minimum when it came to employees and many companies do. I agree that a fair proportion of society nowadays feel it's an employer's obligation to cover every single eventuality and it really isn't. Edit: Just to add for my Granddad's funeral my previous employers wanted me to go to work, take a couple of hours for the funeral then go back to work, wankers. Because I didn't have any hols left to book and they didn't want to agree to an unpaid day off. Complete and utter wankers my previous employers after they became too big for their boots. Were great when they were "just" a family company and were the complete opposite to how I've described above. Then turnover became into tens of millions and suddenly the family company side of things disappeared. I agree that employers should support their staff as much as possible, but loyalty is a two way thing. Before I retired one of my staff asked for compassionate leave to attend the funeral of grandparents on SIX separate occasions! In the end offered unpaid leave and received dog's abuse as a result. All those grandparents, reminds me of this from Milton Jones…

Milton Jones is bloody hilarious. Last weeks Mock The Week repeat " there were protesters, holding up placards, over the road. So I took them some ice cubes. Turns out they wanted justice" 🤣
